Highs and lows

Do you know what I find fascinating about the baseball season? You can change your mind every day about a team's fate.

I'm not talking about what happens when a team loses a key player to injury, but rather how a team's overall personality and look can be so different from one day to the next.

After five innings on Saturday, the Yankees trailed the Blue Jays by two runs and appeared to be well on their way to a fourth straight loss. That would have put them only one game ahead of Toronto, left them 3 1/2 games behind the Red Sox and in no position to gain any ground on the White Sox.

Things just didn't look good. Teams that go into bad losing streaks, especially this time of year when races are really starting to take shape, sometimes can't control it when it starts to snowball in the wrong direction.

Less than two innings later, New York had a 5-4 lead, then Scott Proctor and Kyle Farnsworth struck out six batters and Mariano Rivera closed the game 1-2-3 in the ninth.

All of a sudden, the Yankees found themselves three games ahead of Toronto, 2 1/2 games behind Boston (two in the loss column, which is what really matters) and just 1 1/2 out of the Wild Card behind Chicago.

Don't get me wrong ... a loss on Sunday, combined with wins by Boston and Chicago will send people scurrying around in a panic, wondering how the Yankees can get themselves back in the race.

That's the beauty of a 162-game schedule. Teams can win five straight and it looks like they're world beaters. Then they can follow that with three losses and even the most optimistic fan can begin to think, 'Maybe next year.' One win, however, can turn that fan right back into the believer that he or she was just days ago.

This is going to happen a lot over the next 10 weeks. How great is that?

(Yes! I made it through an entire blog entry without mentioning A-Rod! Oh, wait ...*****.)

First post. Yay.

I hope this win stems into another win tomorrow. Similar to how the Yankees split four games with the Indians after dropping the first two games (and losing 19-1, as we all have come to loathe, in game two).

A-Rod has really got to kick it into gear. I'm not yet willing to stab him with a heated fork, but I'm afraid that a lot of boo-birds will be in view if he doesn't get his act together. Especially after today's performance. That was just atrocious.

In other news, my favorite Yankee comes through again. Against all odds, even - who seriously expected Giambi to hit a pinch-hit double when he has such bad numbers when doing so? Perhaps we'll keep up the clutch hitting in tomorrow's game. A-Rod can be excused if he's going to strike out four more times.

VINCE, MARKSMAN, YANKEEFAN1- you

guys are so funny! i had to miss the game but i had some friends calling me and giving me updates on my man wang. I LOVE WANG!! i know he wasnt AS spectacular as always, but he still kept the yanks in the game for the win!

LOLA- even after the "sombrero" of AROD, i just announced on kasey's blog that i don't have any more energy to either bash him or defend him. maybe we can all come up with a new topic to discuss as i think all of us are tired of the arod topid, right?

MARK- what do you think?

No need to wonder anymore! Take the pressure off of A-Rod. Bat him second, Jeter third and Giambi fourth.

jeffmaff your absolutely right take the pressure off of A-Rod but i would bat him third and Giambi fourth isn't that where he hit last year. Paul thanks a lot for welcoming me to the blog. Well im off to work today have to catch parts on breaks and lunches ****. Have a good day everyone and GO YANKEES!!

bill: Great point about hitting A-Rod 3rd and Giambi 4th. When Posada's out of the lineup, like he will be today (and even when he's in the lineup) A-Rod just doesn't have much protection batting cleanup. Put him ahead of Giambi and he's sure to get better pitches to hit. The problem though, is that he seemingly got plenty of good pitches to hit last night from Lilly and swung through them all.

You guys are right. I was thinking too, cleanup is not a good spot for alex to be batting right now. Bat him 2nd or 3rd, so he can have some protection in jeter or giambi, and he can pick up his confidence from there.
Yesterday's strike out were very unpretty, but as "i love arod" as this might sound, i had some hope that he wasnt just striking out looking (like he was in june), he fought off some good pitches, and had some good swings, just always got himself in a 1-2 count hole by chasing and fouling off high fastballs...thats because he's so scared of striking out, that he's chasing everything, just in case its a strike...he definitely needs more confidence at the plate right now, needs to be patient, take a couple of balls and let the pitcher hAVE to throw him a good pitch to hit...and we all know what can happen when alex gets a good pitch to hit.

all patriotism aside, i miss alex. i've been a fan since seattle, and i know what he can do. his unhappiness (or so it seems) in NY is seeping into his game, and I myself (self proclaimed biggest fan/optimist) will admit he doesnt have it right now.

But i refuse to be down on him because i know what he can do, and in the right circumstances usually does.

Ok..enough alex talk. Moving on to today...this kid shawn marcum...does anyone know much about him? never seem him. what do you think? think our guys can crack him?

If i were torre, here's what my line up will look like...

Damon CF

Mleky RF

Alex DH

Jeter SS

Giambi IB

Posada C

Andy 3B

Bernie LF

Cairo 2B

But i think someone mentioned Jorge has an off day today...oh great, we get Mr Stinett.

Hey Mark, whats up with one of the Molina boys? Can we get one of them as backup catcher? Possibly? (Not Bengie though, heard he had like 20% success in throwing out runners trying to steal, yikes! ha ha)

A few more things about that line-up, Lola. Torre said that Alex would be at 3rd today. Also, would you really bat Jeter 4th? I guess my lineup would be:

Damon

A Rod

Jeter

Giambi

Phillips

Bernie

Melky

Cairo

Stinett

Maybe switch Andy with Bernie?

damon
melky

jeter

giambi

arod

bernie

phillips

cairo

stinett

I like the table setters together, i think melky has a lot better confidence at the plate and is making more contact than a rod, so he should be 2nd, jeter is our best "hitter" right now so he should be third, giambi is the slugger, maybe 5th instead of 3rd or 4th the two pressure sports will help a rod, experience backs up a rod, phillips is struggling but we need SOME life in the 8 or 9 spot so cairo is 8, esp with stinnett being the k king, we should have a contact hitter in front of him

I'm still amused at what Jorge said to Lilly after he almost got hit.

Damon
Melky

Jeter

Giambi

Pujols

Williams

ARod

Cairo

Stinnett

lol, pujols..paul keep drwaming :-D

Didn't you guys hear about the Pujols for Ponson deal? St. Louis really wanted him back in their rotation.

This just in........A Rod has paid Toronto's pitcher 1 million today to throw underhand. A Rod THINKS he may have a chance a fouling off a ball and not striking out with 6 left on base if that happens. Also, he paid then not to hit any grouders if he plays the field. A Rod.......what a bag of bones.......go to the minors for a month........0-4 4 4K's.....6 left on base.......and Phillips, another outstanding game yesterday....

LOL, good one. ha ha dreamers! ;-D

Gees, what a genius I am....I called for Giambi to play yesterday....HUMMMM, he did get to play and what happened? Phillips and Green can't combine and hit thier weights..........Phillips having an OUTSTANDING July folks

Yep, A Rod bating 4th LOL.......put Crosby there, can he do any worse?

Anyone notice Brian posted on the last blog?

I think it was part of the ransom note. And he did not mention Ann.

I wonder if they were taken to another planet? Yeccccch, those alien probes scare then dickens out of me.

lol anyone notice i almost quoted verbatim what sam would say?

Fully ignoring the fact giambi came in to face a bullpen pitcher and not lilly whom he had the bad numbers against? Therefore torre really did field the best team to win.....minus wright pinch running, i guess that isn't the best.

We can start a list......the top 25 million reasons we don't want A Rod.....and continue till he leaves after 2010.......Number 25 million....he has no clue how to play 3rd....

mark, did we ever confirm if we can block sam from this blog? Don't you need a certain maturity level to exist or something?

Gees if 2 million is a "good" investment for a guy who won't pitch this season for us...what is 25 million for what we call a 3rd baseman?

Who was the Minnesota Twin player who has to retire because he could not overcome the fear of playing? Kent Hrbek? Jim Eisenreich?

I seem to remember it was a really good player who just could not stand the limelight.

Vince, Wright pinch ran because Torre was going to take Giambi out anyway and lose the DH by putting ROdriguez at third. So he asked Wright if he could run faster than Giambi and Wright said yes. Torre asked Giambi if it would hurt his feelings and Giambi said no. He didn't want to use Crosby or Guiel in case the game went into extras.

Phillips batting .153 w/an OBP of .176 in July....WOW....what a complete player

The MLB.com lineup has Posada catching.

haha yeah i know alex, i was joking cause the fact of the matter is wright still pinch ran

this game is on yes and not stupid black me out fox right?

Torre doesn't want to lose the offense so he'll give Posada Wednesday off which will give him 2 days in a row.

thsat completely alters my lineup.

damon

a rod

jeter

giambi

posada

williams

phillips

cairo

cabrera

Not sure what the deal is with Russ/Sam the male/Sam the female/some cousin thing.

Sometimes there are lucid civil posts and others an endless rant.

I will still contend Phillips is a good player and will soon end his batting slump. His hitting has not affected his fielding at 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, and wherever else they play him.

ARod has issues. How can anyone following baseball not recall that he is an excellent fielder, who indeed is going through an extended period of horrible play? Does that mean he is now forever horrible? I hope not. But enough already with the piling on.

Giambi was handled perfectly yesterday, rested against a pitcher who has been tough on him and then stuck in a critical situation where he shined. Joe Torre is a bad manager? Get real. So many of those moves he makes work.

What part of major surgery don't you understand, Russ/et al? Dotel had major surgery and is in the recovery period. Is that his fault? When you had Tommy John surgery you were back to work on the way home from the hospital? You should pitch for the Yanks! Can you catch a flight to Dallas?

Do you think maybe you have unrealistic expectations? Maybe just a little? Or provoke arguments?

Here's the real lineup:

Damon DH

Jeter SS

Giambi 1B

Rodriguez 3B

Posada C

Williams RF

Cabrera LF

Green 2B

Crosby CF

take that cairo.

so alex is back on the field and batting clean up...*shrug* I hope to God he has a good day, cause i still think he should be DH for at least today...work on his fielding throws

I am more scared with Giambi at 1B on artificial turf.

The Yankees may need to score 36 runs to win.

the game is on the YES network for those here in nyc, not on fix

I think it has to do with Canadian measurement but none of the Blue Jay hats seem to fit.

If suddenly all the Blue Jays' ears fell off their hats would completely cover their faces and they would look like Secret Squirrel.

Folks, if you haven't yet noticed, Russ/Sam's memory isn't very good. So when you explain things to him, he forgets them immediately and then re-makes the same dumb point he made before. Take for example the Giambi/Lilly thing. He forgot that Giambi had terrible numbers against Lilly, but that when Lilly came out of the game and Jason got to face Scott Downs, he got a big hit. He also apparently forgot that Giambi is a horrendous first baseman. Try to forgive him for these shortcomings.

um, did anyone else think it was bizarre that michael kay just said "winning the game yesterday was like kissing your sister because the yankees didn't move up in the standings"?

Secret Squirrel reference picture for anyone needing back up validation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Secretsquirrl.jpg

Mark, since virtually everyone hates the artifical turf, and since it is so bad for players' knees and other body parts, why do they continue to use it in Toronto and some NL parks?

Good question. My guess in Toronto is that it's because in March and April, it's probably hard to grow grass with the cold weather up here.

In Tampa, the guess here is that they have trouble growing grass in that terrible dome. Same with Minnesota.

I could be wrong, but I don't think any NL parks use it anymore.

It's easy to maintain. I think Minnesota and Tampa are the only other parks to have it still. But at least it's Field Turf instead of the Astro Turf they used to have.

Minnesota's getting a new ballpark soon too so that's one less park with the turf.

lol, did micheal kay really say that?? what the fudge does that mean? Ha ha, i dont even want to know.
and we did move up in the standings, so what is he talking about?

i'm not going to watch the game tonite...i've been neglecting studying for my LSATs and CFAs, and as much as i care, the yankees dont pay my tuition, ha ha.
Have fun guys, and hopefully the boys can bring us a win today! I'll be tuning in occasionally to check scores...

I don't get it. What is the point of listing game time as 1:07pm? I mean what's wrong with good old 1:05pm? 1:07 looks so unbalanced and out of place.

It's for their TV broadcasts.

Good luck Lola. We will miss you and if you are not here start unfounded rumors about you.

Andrew, it is because of the exchange rate.

The Yankees always say 7:05, but the game never actually starts until 7:08 or 7:09.

The starting time is really only a suggestion haha.

Marksman: I was thinking abt the same thing to. It's always the case with games played in Toronto. They start 7 mins after the hr.

In the first place why is it 5 mins after the hr? Why not at 1 PM or 7PM?

At first on Gameday it said that the roof was open but now it says the roof is closed...is it open or closed, Mark?

Thanks, Mark. I did not know or forgot Tampa is not grass.

There used to be a lot of NL places with artificial turf, but they have built a lot of new stadiums.

It is because that is how they do things up there.

alex, roof is closed

Oh ok thanks

well he made contact...a rod looks ridiculous with that **** under his eyes

A-Rod... swinging at first pitches...

Hey Ashley:
We missed you yesterday. It was not an outstanding outing for Wang, but still it was a good one. And now he has 11 wins. Happy?

That's great though Wang wasn't even close to being as good as he normally is and still gets the win.

..and cheese straight from the shaker

not that there is anything wrong with that...

Games start at :05 because it gives the telecasts time to do their introductions and lineups. It's all about TV.

*** these announcers

"sir sidney....hasn't necessarily lived up to the title though"

"sidney had an ok start in his debut. He gave up a 3 run homer in the first to richie sexson, and then was...ok"

ok? he gave up 1 hit for the next 4 innings and 1 run total after that.

vernon continues to hurt my feelings

Oh ok. Thanks Mark.

Can we write a letter to the MLB to let Ponson start games in the second inning? The first inning just isn't his forte.

I hate Vernon Wells.

"if you are the bluejays, you have to beat the yankees at more than a 500 clip"

anybody see something wrong with that? You aren't beating them if you are even with them....

Strikes out the side

JORGE- i missed you guys too!! i know my man wasnt as great as he normall is, but still happy that he kept us in the game and got the win.

hiya Ashley, yes there were a few games he pitched very well and got a loss or no decision. So he deserved the win.

We are always in a hole these days for some reason.

paul- couldnt have said it better myself. in a way, i feel yesterday's win sort of made up for the loss in DC with zimmermans walk off homer

They can't let this guy get into a rythym out there

I know I'll get lit up for this but 4 of my favortie players on the Yankees are: Jeter, Posada, Crosby, and, you guessed it, Chacon.

Mark Feinsand:
I think must of the times I agree with your comments. By far. So I believe we are on the same line. I just remember two dissagreements between you and me. First, the Erubiel Durazo stuff. Second, yesterday, when I said that I believe Joe should give 1 or 2 days off to Alex.

You answered to me, and told me that it was "no sense" for you, telling me that we need his bat. Some of our bloggers said it so. Very few agree with me. But I insist and want to make myself clear. First of all, I am always rooting for him. I am not an A-Rod hater. In fact, I "hate" A-Rod haters. I've always said he is the BEST. So, benching him is not a kind of punishment. You said WE need his bat. And you're absolutelly right. But, why don't we think, what does HE need? Reading Lola's words, after his 2000th hit and 450th homer, telling us that his face looked terrible, like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, MEANS something. Why can't he have a day off? I think he deserves it. And he NEEDS it. Why does Giambi can have a day off and Alex doesn't? Don't we need Jason's bat too? Yes. Jason was terrible against Lilly. And how is Alex these days? Giambi himself said it was great to have the day off. And said it could not come in a better time, when he is struggling. Iron horses like Gehrig, Ripken and Matsui are rare cases. I am pretty sure that if Joe give Alex a break, he could work better. To me, I sincerely prefer that we lose one or two games, but having back Alex well mind-rested. That was my point. I hope I made myself clear. Let's go Alex!!!!!!!!!!! (I am wearing right now my favorite A-Rod t-shirt)

Jeter, Posada, Melky, and Wang for me.

THey are all among by favorites too, Alex.

(along with 13 others)

my, not by, and I posted my list yesterday.

wang melky jeter cano rivera

my 4 fave:
WANG (cleraly)

mo

lee mizzili (i think he is a very good bench coach)

johnny damon

So I'm not the only person who actually likes Chacon?

It is amazing so many of us share the same favorites. Now, I do statistically help it out a bit by having 17 favorites.

Not only do I like Shawn Chacon, but also Aaron Small.

i like chacon too..and small was a nice journalistic story

*** posada what is wrong with you

we just litterally set them up. two passed balls and two walks, absolutely ridiculous when you are down two

come on boys, sir sidney is sir k right now...let's get this jerk out

good, the turf is hurting them now.

A ROD GETS IT DONE! and suddenly, im the only one on the blog....hi vince

That was the first out Ponson recorded that wasn't a K.

Maybe next time they could have Chacon or Wilson pitch the 1st inning and Ponson take over the 2nd?

where has damon's power gone?

Vince that is a birth mark. Don't stare.

Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Ideal situation....

too bad there are no crying smileys for this blog

pick em up, put em down. You're welcome a rod

that's it, i predict that homerun is a turning point, i don't know of what, but it is a turning point

JORGE!!!!!!!!!!

is jorge excited about jorge right now? jorge are u there to talk about jorge?

hip hip JORGEEEEE

Ever since Ponson came to the Yankees he's been striking out a lot more guys than he did with the Cards.

Two things abt the inning. We scored 3 runs. We worked their pitcher's count. Way to go.

MY BABY!!!

CAN WE STOP THROWING WELLS FIRST PITCH STRIKES....

Was that a great catch by Melky?

Vik, you recommended CBS Sportsline as better than Game Day. I am trying it now.

I like the GameDay size and layout better but the Sportsline is faster to refresh and has some great stats.

Thanks for that recommendation, Vik!

vik, yes, saved a double...then glaus just hit it about 75 feet further

what a throw by Melky, but Ponson has got to stop giving up these hrs...

y w Paul

damon would have that....if ponson kept them in the park, ponson could be a 4 starter

Guess its time for Wilson/Chacon

Ponson has been pitching decently EXCEPT for the HRs.

The walks are not too good either.

Who came to the mound? Guidry? Torre?

Buh bye Ponson. You grooved too many weak fast balls over the middle today.

Sad, this was the best ball park in the majors for Ponson.

game over

I should have stayed in bed....

Well Ponson could have done that. I know it's easy to second guess now, but Torre really has to consider that Chacon, Wilson and Villone (all his long relievers) were used two days ago when Wright ****** it up. Ponson really should have been given the opportunity to get deeper into the game, if only to save the 'pen.

i really thought this would be a win, this is ********.

Ponson had 5 Ks, but Wilson just *****...this is horrible.

Ponson should have stayed in

can't we trade chacon wilson and ponson for a good 4 or 5 starter

If you can't get McDonald out, you're in trouble. Face it people, Toronto just handled us this series.

Now we are in deep deep trouble and it is only the 3rd.

and then bring up matt smith and get a reliever in a corner outfield trade for guile and duncan

I never want to see Kris Wilson on the mound as a Yankee again.

i cant listen to the bluejay announcers anymore, they are being absurd.

"holy toledo this one is gone now, the bluejays are just hammering the yankees. This is just embarressing"

What the ----? Is he pitching batting practice?

was ponson maybe hurting or something? i joined the game late and barely saw his stuff. things were not going great it seemed but was it really THAT bad?

Yeah, he got on out.

Ponson was far better than Wilson right now.

Which Blue Jays have not homored yet? Do we want to give them a shot?

Blue Jays batting average for the game so far = .556

Inexcusable.

No Ponson wasn't that bad; he gave up a couple of hrs, but had really good stuff and could have given us another 2 or 3 innings. We could have come back against Marcum down 7-3, but this is to much.

I think Cashman should come to the mound and cut him right now.

Guiel and Wilson were let go by KC. Enough said. Ugly game. Ouch.

i haven't given up hope. if Mo has 6 innings in him we can still win this one 17-15

Its pretty bad when you feel good abt walking a opp batter. lol.

guys, do my eyes deceive me or is the score really 10-3 toronto????????????????
please tell me that is a computer glitch...

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :'(

Isn't it about time for Russ to chime in? :-)

Lola, it was more like a pitching glitch.

Mark, thank you, that made me laugh. I needed that.

Overbay should be ashamed of himself to strike out in that inning.

i am lost...is the score really 10-3 in THE THIRD INNING????
WHY was ponson taken out?/?? is he hurt? kris wilson..whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? i'm gonna cry :'(

On days like this you remember that the Yankees are actually playing guys like Ponson, Wilson, Phillips, Nick Green, Cairo, Guiel, Bubba etc.

Pinchhitting for Russ/Sam-male/Sam-female/cousin...

None of the yankees are getting turkeys for a long time.

i have to go dip my head in cold water, i'm having hot flashes right now...

I go away for a couple days and the Yanks are getting manhandled by the Jays. I tune in today and it is 10-3 Blue Jays going into the top of the fourth. I really want to keep the faith but, good god, that is a lot. I blame it on Mark because he did not take my suggestion to go to the games dressed as a Canadian Mountie. Where is your team spirit, sir?

WOW! I just heard Liriano has 10 ks in 4 innings so far today.

frank it's not as bad as it seems. We should have won the opener, mo gave up a fluke hr, the middle two games we split and this one is a gimme game. They also are at absolute full strength, with proper pitching and hitting matchups

In .2 innings Wilson gave up 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 HRs...sure he should be back.

AROD is not getting a turkey even if he send scott boras to beg me! Urgghhhhh. All of them are ******* me off right now...except jorge cause he homered...urghhhh...i shouldnt have checked in, now i cant go back to studying Urghhhhh, how dare they let this happen to me???

Vince,
That's all true but in the big picture of things we are looking at third place in the standings if this trend continues. Jays are 100% we are most certainly not. Their pitching has been dominant to say the least. Our bats have proven that they can be productive at times but without any consistency it is not looking good. At this point all we can do is hope.

Why is this ******* still pitching?

Although, the last time we got blown out like this (Cleveland) we went on a pretty good winning streak.

jesus, mary , joseph, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is kris wilson still in this game????????????????????/
not that it matters, we have lost anyway (and i'm the optimist), maybe joe and co wanna see if they could possibly beat us 50-3, so i can have the pleasure of walking around with a paper bag over my head tommorow at work.

I may need to get an IV hook up to Pepto and Maalox.

Whom do you guys think we'll recall tomorrow to replace Wilson? Jose Veras and Beam are short relievers. You think it could be Small again?

Wilson is still in the game to eat up innings and save the bullpen. Torre has already given up on this one and is trying to be better prepared for tomorrow.

Could that be the turning point? Do I still have hope?

yankee indian: why not? We've seen stranger things happen...a couple of runs here and we're right back in it.

Go Jeter! Perfect way to get baxck in it is grounding out azt the first pitch! Woo hoo, lets go Yankees!

Mark, any idea whether they'll cut Wilson and bring up someone else tomorrow?

I hope Torre has enough cahones to put chacon in there

The Toronto pitcher has a 5.21 ERA...the Yanks can climb back in this

if they care enough to

oh ****, a runner is on

obviously he cathes it

Just missed one......

wow, arod gave me a glimmer of hope there....

another homer, Jorge, please.

Anybody see sportscenter last night? They went through every one of Alex's at bats and barely showed any highlights from the rest of the game.

What do you want to bet he's the focus again today?

ESPN was once a great sports place but they are pathetic. They are obsessed with bringing down a star---tabloid journalism. Like the National Enquirer of sports.

where is espn on destroying bonds, maybe it's me but committing errors on a field is a lot better in my eyes than federaly perjury and using steroids....

ESPN can almost be lumped in the same category as the Post when it comes to ARod.

remember the day of his 2000th hit, 450th HR? the headline was, "arod gets 2000 hits, 450HRs but error helps sinks yanks".

So how did losing 7-3 on 3 runs that was from ARod...how did arod's error that didnt even allow a run to score, and nonetheless, only ONE run scored in that inning, how did that help sink yanks?

ESPN gets no love from me nowadays. I used to have espn for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but not anymore...

as v.wells hits another hr. hey guys, anyone want to wager some cash on 50-3? :-D

****

Here's why Chacon's homer isn't as bad as the previous ones.

There wasn't anybody on base.

If I had to guess right now, I'd say Wilson will be designated for assignment tomorrow and they'll bring TJ Beam back. But that's just a guess.

I enjoy watching our young guys but it's times like these when I miss our starters.

i saw that sportscenter thing but i was in a place with no sound. just seemed like 5 minutes of watching a-rod strike out. i kept wondering what espn glee they were spewing if i had sound.

Sam Borden started out his chat with Sterling by saying, "You can't blame this one on A-Rod."

ESPN will find a way, I'm sure.

ESPN is a b.itch network. They are not fair at all. The worst thing any sports person did this year outside of the whole steroid scandal is what Peyton Manning did after the loss to Pittsburgh. ESPN did not even cover it for a week (they usually cover something like that for years). And now nobody even remembers it.

Wilson pitched well in relief a few times. This was not one of them.

Small had a good outing this week, but it was his only one. He has been getting killed at Columbus.

Throw Wang back in!

Guys: The Jays are just feeling it today. Not that better pitching wouldn't have helped, but just look at what R(eed?) Johnson and Wells did today. Not to mention other contributions. They cashed on every opportunity as evidenced by 5 strike outs and 2 hrs by Ponson in 2 inns. And it is hard to get a 5th starter that doesnt throw bad pitches at all.

the bottom of our order just made it 11-5...suddenly, a glimmer of hope...

Does anyone else think that Chacon just looks lazy on the mound and generally has a bad attitude? No one more than I wants to hold onto our top prospects (and even the secondary ones like Jeff Karstens and Clippard), but Cash has got to bring in another starter if Sidney can't do it.

It will be an absolute miracle if we find a way to pull this one out.

Anyone think Wang should pitch today to help keep us in it?

no, wang should not pitch today, he needs rest for his start wednesday...i believe he starts wednesday..

JD is really struggling.

Please. Dont get my hopes up and then lose.

Don't know if Yanks can come back from this one. I would certainly hope that they don't go quietly into the sunset. Maybe they can tack on a few runs. Giambi seems to be coming out of his slump, maybe he can get a hit.

Seriously, WHERE IS RUSS?!?!

Games like this just don't feel the same without him.

We just need to hold them off for a while. Then we can nickel-and-dime them. A run here, two runs there. It is still possible to pull this one back.

Wang doesn't start till Friday, I think.

Tomorrow is Johnson, Tuesday, Mussina, Wednesday would be Wright. The only way Wang pitches Wednesday is if Torre decides to go with him on short rest.

lol this is why the Mets have such a great record: Chrus Burke (and his 12 career hrs and .730 career OPS) is batting third for Houston today.

I'll fill in for him.

BENCH A-ROD HE'S 0-3 TODAY WITH A K AND 4 LOB. WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF HIM MAKING ANOTHER ERROR BECAUSE I WANT TO BET MONEY ON IT. WHAT DO WE GET FOR 25 MILL A YEAR WE GET A-FLOP.

Acccck

Oh no. Not that A-Flop business again.

What are the chances Lester finally loses today?

Hello everyone. Well our boys certainly face a mountain to climb, but no reason why they can't come back, if the pitches can minimalize the damage. Whats the deal with Wilson have the pouring salt on an open sore effect?

Well it was the first thing that came to mind when I thought of Sam.

Pitchers, I meant.

Silver lining? At least Zaun doesn't have a hit today.

Wang Friday. Off days 7/27 and 7/31. So depending on how the Yanks work it,a fifth starter won't be needed again until August 5th.

Maybe Pavano can throw some shaker cheese into the eyes of Toronto's hitters.

Unbelievable. Astros have 2nd and 3rd no one out (thanks to fan interference which prevented a run). Huff pops to right, Wilson swings at three pitches at his shoe tops, and Ausmus grounds to the pitcher.

A fifth starter, hmmmm. Maybe Carl Pavano will be back from his ocean cruise by then.

fagan let his mom tickle him again?

Nice to see you too, Dan.

Nice article on Moose and Arod. It made me feel better about Moose - I was upset with how it looked before reading that.

The Yanks need baserunners so Green and Crosby can knock them in.

well at least our shortstop didn't give away a winnable game and lose a game in the standings and not gain one in the wildcard, where it will matter most for the sox at the end of the year. I can sleep well knowing that.

Pavano is throwing off a mound today.

He'll probably trip over the rosin bag.

What a peckerhead. If any of you people goes onto red sox websites and behaves like that tool, i'll disown you.

:-)

Dan: ESPN picks on us because we've "won more championships than any other team in the history of sports"...at least that's what YES keeps telling me....man, i hate that. I also hate the "pride power pinstripes" thing. i think i'm just in a bad mood today. maybe i won't post this. oops!

Either that, or get pinetar in his eye and have to be shut down for the next two years.

if the yankees can come back from this, i swear, they are all getting some delicious turkeys fed-ex'ed to them.
Don Mattingly too..

yeah, anyone else sick of hearing 26?
give us another one or just please, stop saying it =)

no need to run to the turkey market just yet..

exactly

WE SHOULD SWEEP THE RANGERS! AROD IS GOING TO HAVE A GOOD SERIES IN TEXAS. AMEN.

David Wright strikes out on three pitches with the tying run on base??? I thought only A-Rod did that.

I experience stomach pain whenever I think about the bottom of the Yankee lineup. Can't we puhleeze get this trade thing going, Cashman?
Didn't we get Jon Leiber when he was already on the DL? What do you think we could get for Carl Pavano?

Very disappointing hitting by ARod and Bernie

The bottom of the lineup is hitting.

Pull the regulars.

Melky 2 for 3
Green 2 for 3

Bubba 1 for 3

What more do you want?

Sorry to chime in out of nowhere but, does anyone disagree with this thought: The only two Yankees who are consistent game in and game out are Jeter and Mussina, maybe Wang. That's not good.

Time for Joe to have another meeting.....and no ice cream for Ponson, either.

For Carl Pavano we can get a used BarcaLoungerâ„¢

The Yankees don't need pitching at all.

djedwards: That's pretty much right (plus Mo), but that's why we have 9 hitters, and 5 starting pitchers. Not everyone has to hit every day. The problem is that some guys (JD, A-Rod, Giambi, Phillips) haven't hit at all for a number of days in a row.

DJ EDWARDS i disagree...well not strongely though
am i the only one whpo ntoiced jeter barely showed up in the series against the white sox and before that? he's had a good past 2, 3 games though..

the bottom of the lineup has won games for us

DJEdward, chime in any time.

Anyone else out there reading the blog and seeing all of us who seem to know each other...

join in! We will get to know you soon also.

Everyone is welcome.

Mark put out some snacks, please.

(The snacks are for me, by the way. BACK OFF VINCE!)

Thanks Paul, yeah I forgot, I guess that Rivera guy has also been somewhat consistent.

The Blue Jay pictures on Game Day are all way too happy. I think they are the Stepford Jays.

actually...i take that sorta back...he was 7 for 28 in the series against cws and sea...thats .250

Fagan: Do you really think u can get under my skin with that s hit? Poor Fagan. Thats as good as spam email to me. Just imagine how many people think you are s ick b astard. No not people on this blog. Your own sox fans.

Paul won't even share the snacks? Oh well, I just heard Pavano got some peanuts. I'll get some of those.

arod was 7 for 22 in those 6 games... .318 average..

5 runs on 12 hits today. The only two without a hit are Bernie and A-Rod.

Usually, would be very happy with those numbers. What team wouldn't?

I think the Blue Jay bats are just going really well today. And our pitching didn't help matters.

Vik, just ignore it. He wants you to respond, so just let him be.

It is tough to be consistent all season. Over a career there are always peaks and valleys, as there are over a season.

"I think the Blue Jay bats are just going really well today. And our pitching didn't help matters."

Man, did I just state the obvious.

Mark was right on with his blog entry today. Every other day is "get out of my way...we're in your face!" and then "oh my god...it's over"

Dang the pitcher with no eyes is doing well.

Today will clearly turn out to be a "The sky is falling!" kind of day.

Mark's blog was right on and as a Yankee fan, something I needed to read at exactly the right time. Take a breath, it's not late August yet...and tonight I root for Seattle!!!

Mark,
The sky is not falling. I can handle a loss here and there. But they have lost 4 of their last five. It is very upsetting and it is hard not to be negative about it.

lol, so joe has basically pulled all the big guys, jeter, giambi, arod, posada...
game's in the books.

Yeah, Lola. Probably trying to rest them up a little for tomorrow.

The Yankees have a team trainer, and massage therapist. Do you think that they could pony up some money for a team psychoanalyst? I can think of a few players who could use a few sessions on the couch.

frank, remember how they won 5 straight after the all star break? that was just last week...

these things happen...

The sky is not falling but I have my helmet on. It matches my socks.

Amazing, we do have 12 hits. It's just that w/o three of our big guys, there's not enough power to win slugfests right now.

Paul, I didn't know they made argile(sp?) helmets.

Jermaine Dye just got the golden sombrero. Holy cow, Alex yesterday and now Dye. What the **** is going on here?

The story today is not the hitting. It is pitching, pitching, pitching.

Not argyle, Frank, but scary green wombats and hedgehogs.

What is a golden sombrero?

paul: you're right. But with the lineup we had to start the year, we were able to pick up horrible pitching performances like this one. Now, if we get this far behind, we just don't have the horses to get back in the game, especially with Damon and A-Rod not hitting.

4 SO in a game, frank.

Fortunately I have the Sportsline game open...GameDay is still on the top of the 8th with Crosby up.

According to my Game Day, Aaron Hill is up.

i wonder how espn is gonna pick on arod today.
i'm sure they'll find a way...every loss is arod's fault.

I want a turkey.

They will show his SO at bat in detail and over analyze his swing to show what's wrong with him and the "evil empire" as a whole.

Andy will hit an 8 run HR. Trust me on this.

Frank:
Considering stretches from Win to Win or Loss to Loss is ESPN way of doing things. Stats and numbers can be skewed to suit ones needs. After the break we won two series and lost one. Over that stretch we are 6-4. The bottom line is that 56-40 (by the end of the day). 2.5 to 3.5 games behind Boston. Thats all that matters.

You cant get excited by winning streaks and deflated by losing streaks as long as the overall pic is good enough.

Boy. Did I state the obvious.

you are right Vik. I have been put in my place. Sorry.

Well, Russ did predict this...

Of course, he also predicted 2-2 split. Then it was 1-3 series loss. Then it was 2-2 split again, then, well, you know.

I hate ESPN. They remind me of the old men in the balcony on the Muppets Show. Alex will be back, you don't just 86 talent like that. But it isn't just ESPN. Fox is like that too. I live in Connecticut and most of the local newspapers and news stations seem to be pro Red Sox and Mets and anti Yankees. They're going to love how today went.

I'm going to go seek therapy. That usually comes in the form of playing my beloved Yankees in All-Star baseball and pounding the bejeesus out of somebody.

Go Mariners!!!!!!

Lola:
ESPN will mention that Dye got a golden sombrero (hope I spelt it right) and then continue on to ARod's yesterday and show ARod's 4 strike outs (yesterday's) and continue on to his woes today.

they will say alex's woes are now not only affecting his team, they are impacting other players too. alex is at fault for dye's golden somberero...because he got it yesterday and he is considered "the best in baseball" other players are now not to scared to also underachieve.
alex is the cancer in baseball.

thats what they will say, watch...ha ha

I was just thinking and I put some things in perspective for myself. The Yanks are playing well. They are 16 games above .500. Any other year that would be enough to have first place or at least lead the wild card. It's just that there are three other teams that are having exceptional years to this point. I cannot be upset about the fact that the other teams (Detroit,Chicago and Boston) are just ahead of us. Even if we hadn't lost Sheff and Matsui, and we had this record I'd still say we are playing good ball. We need to sit back and let the remainder of the season play out. A winning percentage of .580 is nothing to sneeze at.

Egg in your face. And I am gonna kill this Sexson dude.

I hope that Fagan's post just jinxed Boston. My wish is that Icharo hits a record three home runs off of Lester.
Amen

Amen

Second inning in Seattle: Mariners 3, Boston 0. Thank you God.

*warning* dumb question and arod content:

remember when Paul would go 0-4 and the next day find himself hitting 6 or 7 instead of 3? why is that lineup shuffling not happening now, especially with Arod? Is it just so much other problems and hassles with all the injuries or has Torre and company changed their philosophy or is it just dealing with the personnel you have right now?

sorry i was gone, too busy eating all of paul's snacks and trying to find a retirement home for him....

Well just got back from my day of fun and happened to check out the Yankee score. And of course, I was right, Yanks get whooped 3 out of 4 in Toronto. "I am not impressed with Toronto, we will win 3 out of 4"...famous last words. I see our 25 million guy did great today, another 0-4 day, nothing new, should be expected. Ponson, at least I can say we didn't sign you for 2 million like Dotel, so you get a pass for being horrible. I am glad Boston has so much trouble beating Toronto...glad we don't. I think the same person who said that "Toronto doesn't impress me at all" said the Yankees would win the AL East by 7 or 8 games....LOL....Twins a half game behind us for wild card. DONT WORRY, unless we are 15 games out by August 1st, we will make the playoffs!!

one which me and melky would visit very often out of respect and admiration...........and tax tips

perhaps someone else actually needs a retirement home because they actually have alzheimers....

...that or a mental hospital

On the bright side, Phillips was only 0-1 today, lowering his July avg to like .150.....Yanks will win 1 out of 3 in Texas. It will be too hot for RJ and he will cry when he gets hit hard tomorrow....Texas line up just as good as Toronto's. Torre should use this line up tomorrow

Green

Phillips

Crosby

Cairo

Stinnett

Williams

Melky

Mussina

Kris Wilson

and batting 10th will be A Rod...

we will be sure to win....

200 MILLION = Ponson, Wright, Dotel, Pavano, Chacon, Small, and RJ....= Playoffs? RIGHT LOL

small is not on the payroll, he is in triple a....u also forgot damon jeter a rod giambi cano posada rivera farnsworth proctor and some others.

Vince: Dont pay attention dude. I admire your patience though.

One thing about ESPN.com that I really like is the Team vs. Team grid feature. I don't know of any other website that has it. (If there is one, please let me know so I can start severing my ties with that site.) Anyway, Right now, Toronto is 7-4 agains Boston and 5-4 against the Yankees. So, through 11 games, the Yankees can do no worse agains Toronto than Boston has and it's probable that they go 5-6 if not 6-5.

Toronto is definitely the most improved team in the division. Remember all the preseason hype on these guys? It's just that so far they haven't really "lived up" to it. I think when Mark said he wasn't impressed with Toronto, he was pretty much saying, "yeah, they've played well so far, but can they really keep it going for the whole season and challenge for the division at the end?" That remains to be seen.

Everybody has good and bad stretches during the season, both individuals and teams. The key is to have more good than bad stretches and to be the most consistent team over the long season. Also, to do well in the post-season, you have to get hot at the right time.

We have a lot of hope. Yes, pitching will continue to be a problem, but the offense will come around. The return of Matsui and/or Sheffield will definitely help and should provide a great spark. If we can continue to get consistent pitching from RJ, Moose, and Wang, and get decent starts from Wright and whoever the 5th start will be once in a while, we will be there for the post-season chase in the end.

Thinking of all that made my brain sore. Got to use it more often I guess.

Sexson is going up really fast on my most hated list.

Youkilis cancels him out.

Whats your name marksman? I never seem to remember it.

....sure, mariners drop balls for them not for us, eww and that brute hit it too

My name is Andrew.

Dropped balls? I dont see any errors.

wow....this idiot center fielder should have 2 errors for being an idiot.

Why won't Ortiz just die?

vik, he didnt touch it, he lost it in the sun, and now he just bobbled it and the sox have the lead

oh ok

now this stupid jerk can't lose, i ******* hate his guts

Vince:
It is better that he doesn't lose and the redsox lose.

Who, the prairie dog?

Yup. Lester. I think he can get the job done against mediocre hitting teams. But right now his 4-0 record or whatever it is more luck than his talent. Luck will eventually ditch him.

5-0...tie game.....he shut down the royals...other than that he hasn't pitched more than 6 and most of his starts have been 5 innings i think...makes me sick.

I hope the redsox really believe he'll be good enough against better hitting teams and dont trade for a pitcher.

they need a ton of things. They can use another bullpen arm, a 5 hitter, and at least one starter....where is kasey? I love how i was right about trot nixon, who has fallen off severely since the break. Ian brown himself said nixon is a singles hitter since the break and varitek still hasn't caught fire

oh wait but redsox are in first they are superior, yeah i forgot my mistake....giants must be better than the yankees too because they are in first

Seattle found something in this Lowe dude. Is he somehow related to Derek Lowe.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA NICE DEFENSE REDSOX, THOSE ARE THE SOX I'VE GROWN TO LOVE!!!

let's gooooo seattle :-D!!!!!!!!!

Vince: Are you watching Baseball tonight. I love Kruky. He almost fought with others on the show to defend ARod.

I did not know u were here Lola. They were discussing if it was better for ARod, if they traded him elsewhere.

Good thing the Yankees don't need a 5th starter the next 2 times through the rotation.

Mr Clutch just struck out leading off the 9th. Trailing by 1.

one more out woo hooo lets go seattle!!!!!!!! :-D

vikram, check out my July 21st entry on thoughts on trading aroed http://yankeeslo.mlblogs.com/

OMG, jason varitek homered =(
man, that was clutch...

SEXSON WALK OFF HR

and richie sexson answers by homering!!!!!!!!!!!! wooo hoooo what a bunch of clutch show offs :-p ha ha
seattle wins! no harm, no foul (although it'd have been nice to win and move up...)

We lost 3 of 4 to a team that is 8games over .500. They lost 2 of 3 to a team that is 4 under .500. Gives me more hope. Not that I dont have a lot of it already.

I read that post already Lola. I dont want ARod to be traded. Just pointing out that the so called 'EXPERTS' were being plain ridiculous.

yea vik, espn ***** i know

Sexson earned back like a 100000 points. He's on my favs list now.

Just watched the inside the park homer by Beltre. That was real comedy. Actually a team performance. ****.

lol, espn's so called analysts can kiss my a*s...sorry to be so explicit, but they are working my last nerves.

But i will be getting the magazine tommorow cause my friend just offloaded some 411 on me about the love of my life, grady sizemore the third having an article in their recent issue!!!!!!! ha ha, figures just as my subscription runs out and i refuse to renew cause they are irking me, they run and go do an article on the gradster..

i'll gladly kiss ur *** don't worry...yeah that sox D definitely did not cost them two games against the mariners...not at all.

I'm refusing to watch espn today....for now....I might give in later....if I'm bored....just to see the Beltre homer....

LOL @ vince...:-D
but really, i used to LIVE for espn...lol...so many people are getting put on my sh/tlist cause of the whole arod thing..lol

guys, i am sorry, missed the game and running out soon. i know we lost- but did boston win/lose? and what happened with beltre?

beltre had an inside the park homerun because crisp jumped at the wall and the ball landed five feet to the right of him then it bounced toward manny who was like "oh, i'm just gonna be manny" and he bobbled the ball all the way back to crisp who was like "i'm gonna **** up twice on one play" and he threw it and it rolled a little until i think lowell picked it up and fired to home only to see beltre be safe......then sexson hit a walkoff after varitek hit a game typign homer in the top of the 9th with 2 outs......beltre's hr was in the 8th

manny's bobble was only after the 7th inning when the mariners tied it at 7.....in this inning he dove, sort of looked like a log in the process and deflected the ball away from crisp who was backing him up...this allowed a runner to score all the way from first to make it 7-6....then because delcarmen was all confused by having a ***** in left field, he gave up another hit to tie the game, all with 2 outs.

i'm sure if espn scored the game, they would not give out an error because the redsox have the best defense in history....ever.

vince, you're cracked me up. thank you for the recap. Anyone want to bet that ESPN

blames A-Rod for the Red Sox loss????/

If i were the official scorer I would have given everyone an error.....an E19....crisp for missing the ball completely and then having a bad throw, manny for trying to dive/touch the ball when he is a special needs adult Ortiz for not playing the field, Delcarmen for allowing the ball to hit the wall, nixon for being ugly, lowell for not throwing harder and faster, varitek for not catching and applying tag faster, a gon for losing the game yesterday (double punishment) loretta for not having a personality and youkilis for being especially ugly.

Vince, don't forget Schilling. Give him an error for something too.

schilling gets an error for looking like kiefer sutherland and not being as awesome as jack bauer.....also for that whole pouring ketchup in his sock during the playoffs thing...what a quack

rotlfmao, u guys are cracking me up :-D

Funniest thing was, if Crisp did not see the ball why did he climb the wall. May be he was hoping he can find the ball from atop there.

man, i really gotta see this play...looks like i missed a classic, rotlmao

He was probably thinking about making it look good for when he ended up on sportscenter. Problem was, he forgot he was supposed to catch the ball too.

It was great I loved how Manny batted the ball back to Coco like he was saying "I Don't want it!!"

How often do you see that? Seattle had TWO blown saves in the game and still won. Crazy.

ARod loses another game for the Yankees in Toronto

ARod blunders in the field lead to Red Sox fielding difficulties in Seattle.

Film at 11.

In other news, crazed Yankee fan says to ARod, "No turkey for you!" and refuses to send him a baked turkey.

If Beltre crawled around the bases, the sox would have found a way to make sure the ball doesn't get to the homeplate before Beltre does. It looked as if they were doing it on purpose.

I think Chacon should get the ball next time the Yankees need a 5th.

And in other news, Cleveland Indians player, Grady Sizemore, reports receiving 37 baked turkeys from a mysterious admirer.

Film at 11.

Quite ironically the next time the Yankees need a fifth starter is on August 5th.

Alex: I am with you on Chacon. But that is not based on Ponson's performance today. They would have hit anybody today. They were just hot.

Good point Vik, but as long as I don't see Kris Wilson pitching for the Yankees anytime soon I'll be good.

He should have the inside track to pitch in the Home Run Derby next year.

rotlfmaooo at the turkeys..
grady loves my turkeys :-D

On the way back, Wilson should avoid the window seats that open--the windows that is. They might push him out somewhere over Nebraska.

Lola next you will need to send him a freezer.

Alex is your birthday coming up this week?

Do the Yankees have a game that day? We will all need to wear funny hats.

I would love it if someone wants to send me some Papa John's pizza.

Yeah Paul, it looks like RJ will be pitching too which adds to the list of future hall of famers who pitched on my B-Day.

I'll be in Dallas until thursday. I MAY not be able to join you guys. If I can't, you guys keep the yanks going. Talk to you guys later.

Daniel:

Dont miss me too much in the unlikely case of *** winning. Just remember one thing Daniel:

If you spit at the sky, it will fall on your face. So give up trying to spit on the yankees. FOR YOUR GOOD.

I went and sat through espn drivel just so I could see the Fanny play. Man, and those guys rip on A-Rod? At least he tries. That was unbelievably lazy the way Fanny flipped that ball back towards Crisp.

Have a good safe trip Vik. The Yanks will be in Dallas too, well in Arlington.

Tomorrow is your birthday Alex??

Nah saturday...that's why I said it looks like it will be Johnson but I don't know for sure.

Geez, I just saw the Fox Sports headline for the Yankee game:

A-Rod goes 0-for-4 in Yanks' big loss

Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-4 and is in a 4-for-27 slump. He was back at third base after a day as New York's designated hitter and didn't commit an error after making five in his previous five starts at third.

Rodriguez maintains he is happy with his approach at the plate.

"I still feel good," he said.

Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-4 and is in a 4-for-27 slump. He was back at third base after a day as New York's designated hitter and didn't commit an error after making five in his previous five starts at third.

Rodriguez maintains he is happy with his approach at the plate.

"I still feel good," he said, "Still a little shaken from the crazed fan with the turkey but I should be fine."

_____________________________

Paul you forgot the most important part of the article.

I have a feeling that Vik is going to get kidnapped.

MMMM....TUUUURRRRRKKKKKEYYY!!!

But I think I will need a fifth on the fifth when the Yanks next send out the fifth.

Probably not Andrew. Who would want to kidnap me? Would be a gross waste of their time & energy.

Vik say hi to Brian and Ann.

And say NO to the alien probes.

I think Brian was here sometime today or yesterday. And I do not know who Ann is. Sry Paul. Cant help you with that.

Brian was here for a moment.

Delivering a ransom note.

Ann went to a game and vanished without a trace

There was a site that listed the hotels each team stays in when they are on the road.

Not sure where the Yanks stay in Texas...but you could shortsheet their beds Vik.

are the yankees off tomorrow? is tomorrow going to be that lonely for me?

actually they're off thursdsy arent they

actually they're off thursdsy arent they

Yanks play in Texas tomorrow

looks like u guys are hungry for my turkey.
alex, be good and i'll see what i can do about sending you a turkey for your birthday =)

god dammit....and i spelled thursday wrong everytime

Lola is sending Vince a baked pigeon.

Yanks off 7/27 and 7/31.

lola is sending paul some sort of extinct bird last found int he 1960's that i am too lazy to look up right now but that directly implies his age.

lol thank you stat-o-matic

Yanks off 7/31....but what kind of Yankee NEWS will happen on that day....if any?

I'll be staying in downtown Dallas. Which I think is a way from Arlington, which is where the team will stay obv. I know the Heat stayed in a Hilton in downtown Dallas which is very close to where I am going. Wish the yankees stay there.

btw what does "shortsheet their beds" mean?

Calling some hit men in NJ

****, u guys are too much
rotlfmao @ a baked pigeon, ewwwwwwwww

paul, please get me the state sheet on where the gradster stays! ;-)

Lola should send blowfish to some people, if you know what I mean.

short sheet a bed = make the bed look like it is all ready but once the person is inside it is made so that he cannot but his feet more than 2 feet in.

The inside opening is made small.

It is a joke to play on someone.

I have stayed in hotels with teams a few times. I did not always know except seeing them like the time I stayed in San Diego with the Chicago Bulls.

hahah a joke found in the 1960's....back when murphy beds were in hotel rooms...hahah sorrrry i promise ill stop soon....and those hit men would have A VERY tough time finding me 24 hours away

that was before the Clippers moved to LA

ESPN Motion has no highlights (or lowlights) of the Boston game, but attaches this caption to the Yankee video: "A-Rod hitless again as Jays blast Yankees". Yeah, A-Rod's 0 for 4 really cost us this one...

i stayed in the same hotel as cal state fullerton during the college world series on my senior class trip in anaheim haha.

i just had a turkey sandwich from wawa..

Thanks Paul for the meaning.

BTW just checked the schedules. If we dont lose ground to Boston thru end of august, chances are we'll win the division. We have a very favorable schedule compared to Sox or Jays.

I think the crisp manny adventures from the 7th inning on belong more in a choreography dance video than in sports highlights jss...that could be why

NJ hit men all have homes in FL too

lola!!! i miss wawa so much! thanks a lot...

hahahah paul I actually wouldn't doubt that...at all....this is after all, heavens waiting area

i still havent seen this manny/crips play or should i say, non-play

lola it is absolutely amazing....everything I could ask for.

haha crips......like a guy named after cereal is part of a gang

on the West Coast of FL you see so many hats driving cars.

Look in further and you see a paid of hands reaching up to the steering wheel

pair of hands not a paid

LOL, i didnt mean to type crips, rotlmao, but that will do too LOL

hahahahah....yes I have heard the amount of elderly is much higher on the west as opposed to my east coast

haah lola does a lot of rolling....i think she thinks her carpet is made out of grady material

Guys:
Everybody who wants a powerpoint presentation of some really cool illusions .. give me ur emails

Vince u've got me dying over here, where do u come off being this funny? rotlfmaooo :-D :-D

what that sounds like some sort of funy vik...this is my email.....haha I don't know lola...i came out butt first at birth and my first words were roy rogers....it just sort of happened

It is good to lead with your best side.

Oops.

hahaha....my mom disagreed....I was also a C section

I was never the favorite...

...and I am an only child.

I am just assuming Paul's is valid too and Lola's is girlwonder@may83.com.

Vince, Lola and Paul ygm.

dont u get the email by clicking our names?

Vikram, you can email me at girlwonder@may83.com or iheartgradysizemorethethird@may83.com, take your pick :-D

Yes, Vik this is mine. But I am not signed on now to get the mail. I will look later or tomorrow.

I never heard of Grady before you Lola. I thought it was Ted Sizemore hanging on

That(clicking on ur names) will open it in my office email. I also wanted to make sure u guys were not using fake emails like me.

I get a lot of spam but not from here I think---millions of those Nigeria/Somalia/UK guy died and wants to transfer $44 billion dollars to me

i am watching sportscenter to torture myself...

Lola I can do that to you to. Let me sing for you.

la la la la

That same guy wanted to send me a 44 billion dollars too.

very happy for Tiger =)
anyone play golf here? whats ur handicap?

Mine is my swing

I need to bring a printing calculator on the course to figure my score.

rotflmao, paul...:-D pls, espn analysts torture me enough...

I never swung a club. But I love watching Tiger, Vijay and that australian kid (Adam Scott?) play. I am happy for tiger too.

I played with a pro once on a course in Bermuda. After we played a round I asked him if he had any summary tips and he said,

"Try bowling!"

And he ran away from me.

I have difficulty differentiating between divots and sod.

anyone play golf here? whats ur handicap?

None of u can be as bad as I am. I challenge you.

are u guys on myspace?

i am....darth dint

No Lola....they have viruses

Did you watch Crisp's leap at nothing Lola. That was really funny. To lose it in the sun is one thing and scaling the wall when he cant see anything is a whole different thing.

rotlfmao, finally caught the play...rotlfmao...he was like 50ft off..and manny knocking it back to him was classic, ha ha, Loved it!

No Lola. For some reason, I dont like creating a profile with pics and all my personal stuff.

lol, paul myspace seems to be down for me and i just wanted to see if it was down for anyone else..

Yup. Myspace is down.

You get down off a duck.

*dream*
Can we possibly get Fransisco Liriano?

*/end dream*

Why CAN in dreams. Just dream that u got him.

Ok guys. Good night. Flight at 6:30 in the morning. I dont hate anything more than having to wake up early. Early is anytime before 8AM.

go now and avoid the traffic and sleep in the airport

Have a good flight Vik.

Whenever I fly as soon as the plane starts to taxi I put on the life vest. It calms the other passengers.

Thank you Paul.

have a goood flight Vik!! =)

next segment on espn "a rod on the block?" an excuse to show all his mishaps

Thanks Lola. If Vince is still there. Thanks to him also. Enjoy your week guys. signing out.

np!!

i'm waiting for the arod segment..they need to hurry up so i can go to bed.

Time for me to go also. Have a good night ladies and gentlemen and Vince.

heh heh

hahahahahha thanks paula

Just a reminder. Game time Monday night is a little past 7 pm Eastern time. The game was moved up one hour for ESPN.

I saw the segment on Arod last night and all I have got two or three things to say about it: 1--Steve Phillips, if you were such an expert General Manager, what the **** are you doing on ESPN? 2--What happened to you Harold Reynolds? You of all people know how hard a down season can be. 3--John Kruk is the man, his assesment put Arod in the MVP hunt at the end of the season.
Heres what the article on the Yankees web site titled "Mussina comes to Arod's Defense" had to say about Arod's numbers,

"Player A: .316 average, 21 home runs, 79 RBIs, 63 runs, .388 on-base percentage

Player B: .284 average, 21 home runs, 71 RBIs, 67 runs, .386 on-base percentage

The first? National League MVP candidate David Wright. The second? Rodriguez.

And let's not forget -- Rodriguez has put up these numbers in a "down year" where nothing has gone right for him."

So lets think about this before we judge to harshly.

i watched the segment on mute because i was on the phone. What was said? It appeared from lip reading that Phillips blasted a rod, reynolds was against him but not too harshly and Kruk defended him, was this far from the truth?

Daniel don't forget

Wright: 13 errors

A rod: 17 errors

not that far off either when you consider one is a front runner mvp (though anyone seen beltran lately?) and the other "should be traded" for being so terrible

redsox should be getting wakefield and wells back in 3-4 weeks....foulke is also on the monitor.....we must attack now. in 3-4 weeks we could have pavano and matsui back....we could have matsui back....or dotel....we could have matsui back...and cano....so that should even the playing field, but to me, right now the sox are more shorthanded than we are, therefore we have to get closer.

hahahah i never did see the dolphins vik....ever, even after i knew i was supposed to look for it...wow, i ****.

The comparison between Arod and Wright were to show their similarities offensively, and who is to say that Wright won't have 18-20 errors by the end of the season and Arod might not make another one for the rest of the season. Wishful thinking I know but who knows. Anyway this is an off-season for Arod. Give the guy a break, he is only human.
Yes Kruk defended him, Harold slammed him a bit, and the great all knowing Steve Phillips said he should be traded to the Marlins for their entire team. I made that Marlins part up, but Phillips did say to get rid of Arod. Who cares about Sportscenter anymore? I think from now on I will watch it in mute to keep myself from puking, although I may listen to Kruk.

daniel, i was agreeing with you. 17 and 13 are both bad, not just 17

John Kruk is Mark Feinsand in disguise.

You know you are dealing with bull-dung whenever Steve-fired by the Mets when they ****** GM-Phillips jumps on the band wagon to trade Arod. I honestly think that is why Gammons hasn't come back yet. He keeps getting sick over the comments being made about a great player in his abscence. I know that in the past I have said that I don't like Gammons(bias toward the RedSox) but at least he knows a great player can come out of a funk and not be traded. I am glad that Yankee fans don't own the team. It is starting to make me sick; trade Arod. For who? Who will / could replace a player of that caliber? Lets not forget he set a record this past horrible weekend as the youngest player to 2000 hits with his three run jack. Sunday's loss must have been b/c Arod didn't get a hit, right? It had nothing to do with Yankee pitchers giving up the long ball like they were autographs to kids. That could not have been it. If Arod would have been in the outfeild he could have jumped up and caught everyone of the HRs. Right?
You know it is bad whenever RedSox fans are saying it is. And they are more picky than we are. Remember when Roger Clemens had a bad year? You know the RedSox regret that trade. I am glad that this will be my last blog here for a while, b/c you people are beginning to make sick. While we are into trades lets get rid of Cano, Wang, Melky and Crosby, and Phillips.

Who cares if they are good or not? You obviously don't care about one of the best players to put on the Yankee uniform. That is just my opinion.

Not directed at you mm just fed up with all the boos and trade Arod dookey. It has got me all in a bind (well that and work). Stressful at work is starting to show here. I have to start training tommorrow (military not ninja Paul) and will be out for a three weeks. Here is my prediction: When I return to this blog, the Yankees will be 1 game up in the East, and 2 games up in the Wild card. Arod will be back to the great ball player we know him to be and yet he will still get booed for not going 4-4 every game. He just won't win until he wins the big one.

Hey everybody...sorry I missed posting for pretty much the whole series against Toronto...at this point there is no point in my rehashing everything that went on. I will say this much though: Vernon Wells is doing wonders for my fantasy team, whereas A-Rod is not. Do I hate A-Rod for that? No...but I expected more from him :-P

Also, where did this Aaron Hill guy come from, and when did he become one of the best second-basemen in the AL?

I did notice, however, that Michael Kay never failed to say "and the ball is hit past a diving A-Rod", while two straight hits went past Jeter, without Kay saying a single word about Jeter's defense. It's just popular to rip A-Rod these days.

ESPN makes me sick...shame on the writers for scrutinizing A-Rod's every single breath, but shame on the viewers for buying into all that drivel. Just let the guy play the game. We don't want to see some guy have a nervous breakdown, we want to see him crushing 450 foot homers into the black seats in Yankee Stadium!

I don't think I'm alone in saying this!

I couldnt even begin to tell you how wide my smile was when reading daniel's rant :-D
Daniel, good luck in training and i hope when you return, we'll be three games up in the east :-D

hey swo, got the tix yet?

lol, by the way, this is Lola.

if jeter were diving kay would say the same thing....and if jeter was diving and he didn't it is probbaly because if a rod is diving to his left it is a hit down the line and thus has a chance of being a double....it is more dramatic....Kay is just doing his job of commentating, it is not ripping anybody. It just happens to be that a rod's position is the hot corner

haha daniel i should hope that wasn't meant for me, i was agreeing with you, i hate the a rod bashing, it serves no real purpose...good luck in training.

yankeevmm - I don't know, pal. I don't buy it. If that were the case, he would say "past a diving Andy Phillips" when it was hit the other way, also with a chance of the hit being a double at the other corner. But does Kay say that? I don't know for sure, but I'll bet money that he won't say it tonight, should that happen.

And if he does, then I'll eat my words...as long as I get to put A1 steak sauce on them.

Lola - I haven't gotten them yet...but I will find out in about 4 hours! Now I'm pretty much counting down the minutes to the end of the workday......

lol swo, then i suggest u buy some a1 steak sauce, mark said himself michael kay is prob one of the biggest a rod supporters in media.

Here's a little take on why Toronto won't win the division, or make the playoffs:

Out of Boston, New York, and Toronto, which of the 3 teams is the only one to have a losing road record? Toronto. They are currently 20-22 on the road, and have the most road games of the 3 teams remaining. They have played 42 road games, while Boston has played 45 and the Yankees have played 47. So unless they suddenly find a way to win on the road, they will fade in the division.

Correction: Boston has played 52 road games.

rob how is that possible? That would mean the aynkees have less road games than the redsox do.....I thought the redsox had an overwhelming amount this half.

lol there we go

swo, i've also said the same thing about the enthusiasm Kay says "past the diving arod" with. Its like...are we celebrating this or what? lets pop some champagne bottles!
even when arod had no shot of gettin the ball but makes an effort, its never, "great effort, but ball was hit hard over his head"...its always "PAST THE DIVING AROD". LOL. I've seen jeter errors, and i know there arent alot, but Kay doesnt say them with half the enthusiasm.

I thought it might be all in my head, sicne Mark said Kay is less critical of arod (i wrote about kay on july 21st), but i am glad i am not the only one who notices the "past the diving arod" thing.

toronto also has two pitchers that are remotely good and none that have been in the playoffs as far as I am aware...in the playoffs and healthy/starting...Lilly was in the playoffs with us but not a starter and Burnett has been on playoff teams but wasn't healthy....even BJ ryan has never closed during a pennant race.

I think it is mental for you two. Kay may put more enthusiasm into an error by a rod because that is the popular story right now, but it has nothing to do with ripping him...when someone does something more than someone else, as an announcer you start to patent your reaction to whatever they do...hence why two years ago kay used to get so unbelievably enthusiastic about a rod making great plays at third....that was the story then, an mvp switches from ss to 3b and plays gold glove caliber....It has nothing to do with Kay having bias against a rod

This is my first time posting and like to add to ESPN thread. I hate Skip Bayless. Why is he employed on a nation al network? I realize he has no love for the Yankees, so could careless about his opinion on A-Rod. What had to say only annoyed me. But, he dared to agrue that The Man-Ram made a great play in the inside-the-park homerun, because Coco has a better arm. What the **** is he thinking!!!

lol rag did he really? He clearly did that unintentionally...he clearly was getting ready to throw and lost the ball like an idiot....and crisp does not have a better arm either

crisp has been widely criticized by redsoxnation for having a subpar arm this year

You know rag, I personally wondered if that is why Fanny threw the ball back towards Crisp, and I did not hear bayless or anybody else say that. After seeing the replay, though I couldn't care less WHY Fanny did what he did. His whole body language on the play was "I don't want to get involved. This isn't my play."

Vince, so what you're saying is that Crisp throws worse than Mary?

even if crisp had a better arm.....in the time it takesmanny to roll it back to crisp (he didn't even toss it) and crisp, with no forward momentum to fire into the infield, that is already valuable time wasted where a manny throw would have been the better decision anyway

I agree with you Rob, Manny was point back at Crisp like "It's his mess not mine."

yes rob, i am saying that...manny at least gets the ball in quickly...a lot like matsui in that sense...That is why last year manny was among the leaders in outfield assists and crisp wasn't.

inconsistant pitching? Yet the redsox and whitesox will go to the playoffs? Hmm, struggling to see any reason to accept that as a valid opinion...Injuries? Yet redsox will go to the playoffs? hmm.

MVP and 2 gold glove caliber years a gamble?

I really had faith in you russ, not to be a stupid ******* for once. Apparently you cannot resist being hated by an entire community including the owner. Enjoy being a miserable piece of ****

I don't hate him, reading his rants is one of the highlights of my day.

You don't need 5 good starters to make the play offs or even succeed in the playoffs. It would be nice to have that, yes, but not necessary.

If we continue to get solid pitching out of Johnson, Mussina, and Wang; and decent starts out of Wright and Ponson/Chacon/???, then we have a good shot at making the playoffs. Yes, offense could use some help, but that may come from Matsui if he gets back. If Cashman can pick up a bat for little of nothing, great, but there is not reason to give away the farm. If we get the playoffs, pitch Johnson, Moose, and Wang as much as possible and we could win it all.

I can't believe I'm responding to Russ again. I've got to stop doing that.

"Dougie's a pretty good used-car salesman, which you've got to be as a catcher." (Francona on Mirabelli)

Is he hinting at what Bearbelly's next job is going to be?

as many of you know who have been to games at the stadium, when the yanks are down going into the 9th inning, they play an amazing rocky/yankee highlight montage on the big screen in right field...is there any place on the net where that is available to be seen/downloaded??

Maybe Mirabelli is like a used car salesman in the sense that he convinces the Red Sox that he is a good defensive catcher when he really isn't. And now, it's possible that Francona has finally caught on.

Maybe they'll trade him back for Josh Bard and helicopter HIM into Boston this time, just because they can.

This is random, but does anyone else think something shady went on behind closed doors when the Red Sox traded Mirabelli for Mark Loretta? I mean, how often are backup catchers traded for All-Star second baseman? If we traded Kelly Stinnett for Dan Uggla, would everyone think THAT was a fair trade? Someone explain this to me, because I just don't understand.

surf - That is the coolest montage ever...unfortunately, I doubt you will find it anywhere on the internet.

But if you're feeling lucky, youtube.com might be a good place to look.

yeah that was a terrible terrible trade...loretta didn't even have a high salary, plus they ended up getting piazza anyway...makes no sense. Anyone related in their front offices?

Was it a straight across deal or were there prospects involved also?

straight up rob...ridiculous trade. I think theo epstein is also a hypnotist....unless of course it is with the reds....then they are content trading a now ace for a backup outfielder.

unbelievable how any redsox fan can say the yankees are he evil empire, we didn't make bernie take a pay cut and then trade him...pettite cancels out pedro for me, then how do u explain lowe? clincher of all 3 series? Or letting damon go disrespectfully? after winning a world series

I'm glad that the talk about "best team money can buy" is not so prevalent anymore. How interesting that I stopped hearing people talk about the Yankees "buying" championships after the Ruddy S*cks won it all?

yet they will be glad to say they have 2nd highest and we have highest....because 60 million matters when the marlins payroll is 15...lol adding onto something already unlevel is a ridiculous argument

Yankees have pretty much always spent the most money in baseball. It's just one of the realities of being the team based in New York. You spend more because you are able to make more.

Even before revenue sharing, the Yankees make more money FOR every team they play, too. Don't the Yankees have the highest ROAD attendance in baseball?

yes by far.

sam where did you hear that from?

I don't want soriano.

does anybody know a reliable website that has trade rumors that is open to anyone to see? I know espn has rumors but you usually need to be a member to see the stories

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/mlb/yankees/rumors.html

There's a site for you Vince. That link goes straight to the Yankees page.

thanks alex!

And ESPN reported that the White SOx are "extremely close" to a Soriano deal.

You should have a fun time with that site Vince, put it in your favorites, it's updated everyday.

I just checked out the site, and noticed the "A-Rod in bluestripes"story. All I can say, if the Yanks trade A-Rod, they'd better get a **** of a lot of players in return.

I doubt that Cashman would even try to trade him and if he does than A-Rod would probably veto it anyway.

to be honest, im sick and tired of the A-Rod bashing. I understand he makes lots of money, blah blah blah blah...i also understand people have the right to boo, but when the NY Times sports section yesterday, after a win, puts A-Rod's faults on the front page, rather than a Yankees win, you have to wonder if people just want him to fail? It is ridiculous. The guy is awesome and probably needs to get away from us Yankee fans who just deride him no matter what. We are the fools. Not him...possibly trading him is a stupid thought.

A-Rod to the CUBS? I'm sorry but I just don't see that happening.

He is the greatest player of this generation, with the possible exception of Pujols. A-Rod is on track to break the home run record, the RBI record, and everything in between.

Clearly, then who would be your choice for the best player?

Anyone know why Damon isn't in the lineup?

This is only Pujols 6th season, compared with this being A-Rod's 11th full season. A-Rod has been putting up great numbers for twice as long. When Pujols reaches 11 seasons and has numbers equal or greater to A-Rod's then we can discuss which of the two is better.

Having said that, can we really say that A-Rod is this generation's greatest player without having some historical perspective behind us? Isn't it really too early to tell?

Marksman, according to Peter Abraham, Damon is suffering from back pain. He was originally in the line up but was a late scratch.

Hmmmm...looks like Russ can't name one.

ah, i see we are back to the A-ROD soap opera again. sigh.

you're right, I have GOT to stop responding to this guy....

What a shock ... Russ/Sam is using dollars to make his argument. Yet again, his short-term memory kicks in, since Alex is the 4th or 5th highest paid player ON THE YANKEES. Typical. I'm actually beginning to feel bad for you, dude.

barry bonds....but he cheated....and even so I dont think he has hit as many hrs since 96, a rods rookie year....Pujols since he has been around but like someone said before, he has been there half the time....could have been nomar but he was unhealthy, could have been griffey but he was unhealthy.

Russ, as far as offense goes you can't name one...Ortiz doesn't play any defense whatsoever and even he has only emerged for three years.

The question isn't who you would rather have on your team, that is going to be based on personal bias and we all know with what little brain capacity you have, you would not choose a rod. This is based on what he has done in the sport of baseball and you cannot find anyone since 1996 who has done it for as long or as potent as a rod whether you like him or not.

mark, is there a way to individually block people from blogging. I don't care if russ is blocked from the blog, but is there a way i don't have to see his posts...Skipping them is next to impossible because he seems to go on rampages from time to time.

Is there a good place to find out how many years a player has remaining on their contract?

it's 17.....and pedro and clemens are pitchers, they perform once every five days and on one side of the ball. Your son more than likely has the brain capacity of a toothpick if he is related to you, at least in terms of baseball knowledge, Bonds is a roid head and even he didn't emerge till the early part of the millenium....and A rod has one a gold glove multiple times, you are just useless and waste of space on this blog

won* not one.

Posted by: jtorresmesias@hotmail.com | July 23, 2006 01:30 PM

I posted this, as you can see, yesterday at 1:30 PM. It was after the game. There were no comments at all. So, nobody could read it or nobody found it relevant. Just to make me sure, what do you think folks?

Sorry. I meant it was BEFORE yesterday's game

I agree with you Jorge, maybe he does need a day off. But, with Torre, a day off for these guys is often a day at DH, unless they have an injury. The only reason why Giambi got a full DH, probably, is because he was terrible against Lilly. I doubt A-Rod will get a full day off in the near future until they get some more help in thier batting line-up.

Even thought A-Rod is struggling, he is still capable of hitting one out every once in a while, and I doubt there are many pitchers, if any, he has horrible career numbers against. Besides, Managers often sit left-handed batters against good lefty pitchers. The almost never do that with right-handed batters against good righty pitchers.

Oops, meant "full day off" there for Giambi, not "full DH."

"Committed 12 errors in his second season at third base and only two over his last 91 games of the season. "

This is from A-Rod's Bio page on MLB.com.

Isn't it possible he could repeat this and committ hardly any errors for the rest of the season? Besides, he has committed 18 errors in a season twice before, and his career high is 24. He's only committed less than 10 once.

Sterling said Damon hurt his back getting out of a car. Locked up. Sounds like day to day...but rats, just what we don't need.

JJC here to provide some enlightened and utterly pointless commentary as the New York Yankees head over to Arlington to square off against another second-place squad attempting to squeeze itself into contention - the Texas Rangers.

Well, you've got to like the Yankees' odds for this game. I'm sure they're hungry for a win after struggling in Toronto, and A-Rod has another chance to try and get the fans on his side before coming home.

Yes, and ESPN is loving the A-Rod anti-highlights so far during this broadcast. I'd wager they show that 4-strikeout performance at least twice in the next thirty-six hours, unless Mr. Rodriguez does well this game.

Against Millwood, with this line up, Yanks score no more than 2 or 3

Just been comparing stats for 3B gold golvers and A-Rod for the last few years. I think, clearly, the better 3B was played in the NL since 2000. Wonder if they are just better defensive players or if the pitching/other factors have something to do with it?

In my opinion, A-Rod was robbed of the Gold Glove last year if you just had to pick between him and Chavez. Chavez had 15 errors to A-Rod's 12, and Chavez's fielding percentage was lower too. Add in the fact that A-Rod commited fewer errors in MORE games at 3B.

I don't know why I keep doing this. Know matter how many facts we use to show that A-Rod is a great player, some people just won't ever be convinced.

Millwood hasn't been pitching well at home.

I predict a 5 - 3 Yankees win, with four RBIs coming from A-Rod. Not likely to come true, of course, but there's nothing like a longshot prediction at the start of a game.

No, Russ, I'll feel sorry for you. You're a sorrier case.

Rob, don't you know by now that how Millwood is pitching is irrelevant to Russ. If it's a pitcher who isn't on the Yankees, Russ thinks he's a Cy Young winner no matter what, so clearly the Yankees will lose. It's all very scientific.

We should have a lottery. After he gets out of his latest mess, predict the date when Ozzie Guillen gets into trouble again.

Millwood is good? Interesting. Last time I check, his ERA was 4.61.

Yay Melky. Good way to start the ballgame.

Speak for yourself. The day I'd have Millwood over RJ is the day I poke my eyes with a fork.

Yes, yes, A-Rod choked once more. Let's not forget that neither Jeter nor Giambi managed to get anything done after Melky's single and stolen base either.

Oh no! What a terrible inning for Randy Johnson. How will the Yankees ever win THIS one?

Anyone else who can't stand Sutcliffe?
