Time to celebrate

You just haven't lived until you've heard the following line from Gary Sheffield:

"You guys look too dry. I'll be back."Division_champs_hat

There I was, standing in the Yankees' clubhouse with Bordo, T-Kep and a couple of other reporters when Sheffield decided that we hadn't been properly doused with celebratory champagne.

The three of us looked at each other with a look of fear, wondering what would happen next. Sheffield walked back to us, his hand out of sight, and all I could think was, "Close your eyes."

As it turns out, Sheffield was just messing with us, but I did get my fill of cheap champagne on my clothes, in my hair and in several other places. Such is life on the Yankees beat.Melky_cano_clinch

This is the fifth AL East celebration I have seen (I wasn't in Chicago in 2001, just a week or so after 9/11), and I have also seen postseason celebrations in 2001, 2003 and 2004. This may have been the wildest one, as youngsters such as Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera took it upon themselves to shower every single teammate at least once, shouting their nickname as they did it.

The veterans got involved, too. Derek Jeter was crushed by A-Rod and a couple of teammates as he spoke to Kim Jones on the YES Network. The youngsters surrounded Bobby Abreu and showered him repeatedly, then they moved on to Bernie Williams, Mariano Rivera and so on. No one was spared.

Even the on-field staff took a hit. Mike Borzello, the bullpen catcher, and Charlie Wonsowicz, who runs the video operations, were sitting in a corner of the clubhouse, trying to avoid the bubby which was flying around the room. Nice try, fellas. Jaret Wright walked over to them with a full bottle of champagne and let loose, soaking both men.

Good times.

Jeter_torre_clinchIt's hard to accurately describe a clubhouse celebration. Even before I had a single drop land on me, my eyes were watering from the mist of champagne in the air. It is total mayhem, and when the players say that it never gets old, I believe them. After 152 games, to accomplish what the Yankees did is something to celebrate, even if they didn't do it with a win on Wednesday.

I have a feeling this won't be the Yankees' last celebration of the year.

(I also have to throw a shoutout to Matt and Marcie Sadofsky, two of my good friends and a pair of die-hard Yankees fans. Matt and Marcie welcomed the newest little Yankees fan into the world on Saturday, as their son, Alex Daniel, was born. I fully expect to see the proud parents at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs. Congrats, guys.)

that was awesome mark.....i wish we could all cyber douse each other with internet champagne

wow mark added an update to the update.....congrats to ur friends....so would you say this team's chemistry is a better dynamic than all the other years since the dynasty? I sense that by what little I know about their clubhouse

*Soaks Vince with Champagne*

looks like i was wrong about this year. huh. who saw THAT coming?

enjoy the rest of the season and the postseason, everyone.

*Soaks Kasey with champagne*

*Soaks all three with champagne*

what a great post! It is great to get an inside report on the Yanks celebration. I would give my left nut to be celebrating with those guys! Very glad to have clinched now and can play out the rest of the season resting key guys and getting sheff and matsui in the field risk free. Its going to be a great october!!!!

Love Jeter's quote:

"It doesn't get old," Jeter said. "This ranks up there with all of them. Every one is different. People say, 'Is this one more special than the others?' They're all special.

"People understand that there's more work to do, but let's enjoy this."

Yup. It never gets old and they are all special...

Spritz me later...no booze on the job!

Daily News reporting:

... that despite a visit by Mets officials on Tuesday afternoon after a Yankee Tuesday morining visit, that the Yankees are on the verge of announcing the AAA move to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The announcement could be made as early as today.

It appears Columbus will be the AAA team of the Nationals.

The Mets contract is up with Norfolk, and they tried a SWB ploy at the last minute. They then tried going back to Norfolk but Norfolk is leaning toward the Orioles.

It looks like the mets are going to be the ones screwed here, as it looks like they are going to wind up in New Orleans.

"who saw THAT coming?"

A lot of people ;-)

I am not really all that excited right now though. This is more than a bit anti-climactic. We all knew they'd be here. The Season starts in ten odd days.

But congrats to them all the same.

who does Mike Lupica think he is?

Whom should he think he is, Lola?

Say it ain't so, the Yankees could shop A-Rod? He could be traded? I know he hasn't had the greatest of seasons, but can we not jump to conclusions until the post-season is over? After all, he is still A-Rod. He was the 2005 MVP. Who would play 3B anyway?
I'm sorry, I know he hasn't been clutch this year, but that's allowed Jeter to move into the MVP spotlight, something I think Jeter has deserved for years. If A-Rod was batting .300-plus and 50 or so HRs, we wouldn't be talking about Jeter for MVP, it would be an A-Rod repeat. Well, can we give the guy a break until the post-season? I'd still rather have A-Rod in pinstripes than batting against the Yankees...especially for the Angels or BoSox. Please, please please tell me the rumors are just rumors.

Haha Lola. Its amazing how two different reports can get something so vastly different out of the same article. Vaccaro from the Posts take is completely different.

OK, I guess I am going o have to go see what Lupica wrote. I don't read his columns.

Who does Mike Vaccaro think he freaking is??

lol, you might need to put on a protective suit or something if that's the case.

sportswriters make me SICK!
The all of them!

why do i even read this ****??? They make me want to *puke*

IDIOTS!

except you mark feinsand. u are cool.

Mike Vaccaro is just jealous because he will never ever be a quarter bit as rich, smart and good looking as Alex is :-p.

Are they just idiots that cant read or do they realize that the interviews where done OVER A MONTH AGO?????????
Who wants to donate to the Mikes getting laid fund? (Mike Lupica and Vaccaro). They need to get laid! LOSERS!

lol, sorry about my outburst. =)

MMM...Sounds interesting...

Oops, you didn't mean me.

Mike, u arent a loser type of Mike, you are the winner type of Mike. =)

lol

OK, I found and Read a Lupica column "Giambi's still needling - Time to get off A-Rod's case" and actually found it to be pro-ARod.

What problem did you have with that column Lola?

And now who is Mike Vaccaro? Does he write for a paper somewhere?

I'll freely admit I'm a cynic. I think the timing of that article is not exactly coincidental.

"looks like i was wrong about this year. huh. who saw THAT coming?"

Uhh, just about every Yankee fan with a brain in their head. You were the guy claiming win after win that it wouldn't matter, the Red Sox juggernaut was just too much for the Yankees to overcome. A 5 game beatdown occured and you STILL thought it wasn't enough. So the answer to your question Kasey is EVERYONE. Go Yanks.

Vaccaro writes for the Post.

A friend e-mailed me, he got off the phone with someone from Scranton and says the AAA move is a done deal.

Thanks, Mike. I will have to look for his column. I do not read the Post unless a specific srticle draws me there.

The NY paper I read the most is Newsday, mostly because I grew up on Long Island, and the Times as a secondary source.

Paul, dont bother. Its just a rehash of everything u have heard. These writers need new material. I am tired of the same old same old. *yawn*

And oh, by the way, i wasnt saying that because he said anything bad about alex (i dont only defend alex, u know :-p ) just in general what he said about giambi and his tone.

Plus i just think he needs to **** cause i am tired of him thinking he is the smartest guy in the room.

plus the title really got under my skin. like really.

The Sports Illustrated article is just plain stupid.

Stupid for the players involved, each of them.

It was intended to sell magazines, stir up a little trouble maybe.

But the bottom line is the players allowed the article to happen, knowing full well no good could come of it.

Good clinching afternoon everyone!! :)
This comment caught my eye when scrolling thru:

//Who wants to donate to the Mikes getting laid fund?//

Ummm can I donate to the Mike Mussina getting laid club.. I will give all I have! hehe *evil grin*

LOL sorry...You ladies on this blog are very good at not drooling over Yankee hawtness but that one was just too good to resist :)

Anyhoo, I did just go out and get Post and Daily News.. not only is Mike Vaccaro a complete piece of poop-for-brains but he's also a plagiarist..he's saying the EXACT same thing John Kruk said last night. If he has to bite his caustic one liners off the fat, ugly, annoying cohost of BBT, then he is even more pathetic than I first thought. If A.Rod is reading his press today, I hope he realizes this!

Now I just wrote a long treatise which I was going to post here. I think maybe I won't.

But I am disturbed by the tone this blog has taken this last hour.

When someone does not agree with you on a sports issue you declare him unable to sexually satisfy himself?

I saw the same thing happen a couple of days ago when a few jackals ganged up on Kasey's foolish pessimism.

Tawdry stuff. I am disappointed.

The attack on Kasey was on Pete Abe's blog.

Hi Paul :) ...re: your post..
As much as I malign certain baseball journalists, as a journalism student myself I do understand their dilemma. Their jobs are on the line, if they don't/can't produce interesting and sometimes controversial copy, the editors will find someone else who can. So while I do understand where they're coming from, the A.Rod situation is REALLY out of hand and at this point theyre just rubbing salt in a wound that *was* already practically healed. Also I am REALLY sick of ESPN's anti-Yankee bias...especially when Tino has to sit there and listen to it :( A.Rod *should* be able to ignore bad press but he is who he is, and I just hope he is not letting this get to him.

You ladies on this blog are very good at not drooling over Yankee hawtness but that one was just too good to resist :)

LOL, says who. I am never ashamed to drool over yankee hotness. LOL, ask around =) ha ha

Paul, my mistake on getting laid comment. I guess its a youth speak habit...we dont mean malice by it, but i see your point.

and i work around guys..lol..the solution to everything and everyone is "they need to get laid". i picked up the habit, i guess.

LOL, says who. I am never ashamed to drool over yankee hotness. LOL, ask around =) ha ha
Posted by: Lola | September 21, 2006 12:31 PM

****, glad I am not alone there! :)

Gina,
i can talk about yankee hotness all day, but i'm sure Mark Feinsand would shut me down, ****!

Check the new tagline on my blog http://yankeeslo.mlblogs.com ha ha

Just read Pete's blog about Giambi and Bruney doing shots of Jack, I love it!! :) LOL I knew Giambi would go for something harder than bubbly. Gotta love him and every time I celebrate a big Yankee win that I know they're celebrating too, I motivate myself by asking, "can I drink more tonight than Giambi will?" hehehe

Yeah, Bruney does seem like a Jack kind of guy...

LOL I love it Lola! Left you a comment!

the yankees are the most good looking team in the mlb. You've got a shortstop that every girl and their grandmother wants, a 3rd baseman with movie star good looks, a 2nd baseman with an incredible smile and twinkle in his eyes (my hubby!), a incredibly delightfully adobarable outfielder named Melky (even comes with a cute name!), the best dimples in the league in bobby abreu, a tattooed first baseman with bad boy appeal, Farnsie the Fox as the makeshift closer, an incredibly gorgeous top pitching prospect in phillip hughes, the cutest 1st baseman ever in andy phillips, a tenured catcher with the most adorable ears i've ever seen, a loveable top 50 best looking people nominee in mr williams, ...need i go on?
Kevein Thompson, Jose Veras, Dotel, Wang, Jaret, Mariano...all men that are also attractive. Man, i'm a lucky girl! :-D

//Yeah, Bruney does seem like a Jack kind of guy...//

Indeed! This whole time I have pictured him driving a jacked-up pickup truck that's roughly the size of my bathroom, blasting Metallica.. the Jack fits into that picture perfectly!

Amen, Farnsworth is so hot it should almost be illegal. Especially w/his glasses on!
LOL I gather all my fellow Yankee chicas here already have their hubbies set..I know we all have to share Jeter and A.Rod lol but I hope Moose is not taken yet cause he is sooo mine! :)

Ha ha, i dont believe the Moose has been hooked on this site yet. I think the moose is pretty handsome too. I might admire andy, farnsie and tanyon sturtze (i miss him :-( , but i am already hooked to the second baseman and i have eyes for him and him only. :-D
(except if Grady Sizemore happens to, you know, be in the area.. :-D)

Hey folks ... just because you don't agree with someone doesn't make them wrong.

I haven't read Vaccaro's column yet, but he is one of the best columnists in the city.

As for the SI piece, I thought it was very good. Verducci may be the best in the business, and his reporting is tremendous. Again, you may not like it because you feel people are picking on Alex, but it was a very interesting piece.

Hi Mark,
i agree with you that just because we dont agree doesnt make them wrong.

And it is a matter of opinion that you think Vaccaro is one of the best columnists. He may very well have written some pretty good columns, but for the most part, the impression i get from reading him is that of someone who lacks objectivity and doesnt care to see the issue from a neutral standpoint, or from both sides of the fence. This impression was reinforced in today's column, and i honestly wouldnt have paid it mind, because i am familiar with his writing tactics by now, but today's column was pretty bad. Not only did it implicitly state incorrect "facts", but it also seemed to be spurred more by personal malice than just reporting of sports.

I miss Sturtze too...does anyone know if he will be back next year?

As for Verducci, i dont believe anyone can disagree with his writing style and talent he has to carry along the reader with him. He's a good writer, thus he writes good pieces.
I dont believe the case in question is of if the piece was good or not, but rather the intent and timing of when it was released. The said interviews were done a month ago. I find it interesting they perfectly timed it for now to release. I believe it was all a scheme to create propaganda and drama in other to sell papers. I dont fault them...the sports business is just that, a business. So to me, he is just doing his job.

Who i do fault though, are the people who refuse to think objectively themselves. And thats with every issue past sports. Politics, current affairs, whatever...the media should not be seen as a voice of reason, but rather a source of information for the masses to take and draw up their own logical conclusions.

I just found it interesting because two writers got two completely different columns out of the same article. A lot of that article is in how you intepret it. I do agree with whoever it was who said that all of the players involved allowed themselves to be interviewed. Its not like they have editorial control over the final result OR how its interpreted. If they want control, don't say anything. Simple as that. I dont think Alex helped himself out by some of the things he said, to be honest. I also think it didn't portray Giambi in the best light, I really dont think he meant things the way they came accross, but thats just my interpretation. I dont particularly care for SI as a magazine - I canceled the trial subscription I had - but I do think it was an interesting article. I think the timing of it (just as the yankees are going into the playoffs) is unfortunate, but I admit to being cynical, lol. I do realize that lengthy *to print* times between when an interview is conducted and when the actual article is released are actually quite normal for magazines. I personally think a mountain is being made out of a molehill with this, and all I hope is that it doesn't hurt the team. Arod has been great in September and I think it would speak volumes if he didn't allow this to derail that, or even be perceived as doing so. I dont think Arod is infalliable or perfect, and I can see what people mean when they talk of his strange people skills..they maybe could be a little better developed, lol. Like Lola says though, he's not a criminal or a wife beater and he plays hard and gives his all, and there are things about him to be admired too. I'd love to see them win #27 and put some of this to bed for once and for all.

Oh, i apologize for the length of that post and the bad spelling/grammar that will be contained in it. Proofreading is my friend, but I didnt do it on that post - too much of a hurry and it was longer than I though, lol.

*thought.. not though.

I give up, lol.

No more posting when I can't be sure to post something that somewhat articulate, lol.

Sturtze will be 37 next year and is coming off major shoulder surgery.

It might be a good bet to think that his career could be over.

Who's a Wang Lover here?

If you want to see a cool multimedia interview from the NY Times with Wang (just him talking), go here:

http://www.nytimes.com/packages/khtml/2006/08/11/sports/baseball//20060813_WANG_FEATURE.html

A related/printed version can be found here with a link to the multimedia show:

Vaccaro is good at times, although I have called him out a few times for not doing his research. (I've done that to a few columnists...some appreciate it, some don't...hey, I'm not the one who did the sloppy research!). Once I corrected Jayson Stark twice in the same week. He recognized his errors and was very gracious in thanking me.

The last time I called out Vac was when he was pleading for the Yanks to take Clemens back and I argued against it. I know Roger is doing nicely in his "half-season" but I still would argue against it.

Olney stated yesterday or today that he thinks Roger will go to Boston next year. Let him. Another "half-season" and if he goes to Boston he may find the AL lineups too tough for him. He will be 45 next year so he may also find that he lost it, and that's just what we would love! Nothing better than for Boston to find out in mid-August that their nice rotation addition simply doesn't have it anymore in some key divisional tilts.

Just my opinion...

I prefer Joel Sherman.

Pretty cool eh?

Playoff predictions (has no bearing on reality whatsoever):

Twins pull the miracle an win the AL Central. Face the A's in the ALDS.

Yanks face the Tigers.

ALDS:

Twins beat the A's in 3 games to 2.

Yanks beat the Tigers 3 games to 1.

NLDS:

Mets beat Wildcard 3 games to 0.

Cards beat NL West champs 3 games to 2.

ALCS:

Yanks beat Twins 4 games to 2.

NLCS:

Mets beat Cards 4 games to 1.

World Series:

Yanks beat Mets 4 games to 2.

I'd have to look this up, but I believe the Yanks won the season series against both the Twins and Tigers (I know they did vs. the Tigers). So if there is a 2 or 3 way tie, I believe that the Yanks own the tiebreaker.

What was the Twins/Tigers matchup like? Who won that tiebreaker?

if you have the numbers on the head to head, post if you can. I'm on a work break so I can't do it until I get home.

Here are the remaining games. As of now the Yanks are 92-60, Detroit 91-61 (-1) and Minny 90-61 (-1 1/2) for AL best record.

Yanks...4 @ TB, 3 home Balt, 3 home Tor.

Det. ... today a makeup @ Balt., 3 @ KC, 3 home Tor., 3 home KC

Minny...today @ Boston, 3 @ Balt. 4 home KC, 3 home White Sox.

Somehow, despite the teams involved not including the Braves, Atlanta will still lose 3 games in the playoffs' first round.

Mike,

Thanks, Paul. If the Twins win the division, and they finish tied with the Yanks, who gets the tiebreaker?

I'll try to log on later tonight, but I have a column to write for our fanclub before I do.

Later!

OK, that was hard to read. I should have Previewed first.

Say what we might about the Angels but Oakland seems to be a greater nemesis.

Ok, I'm cheating very quickly....

The Proctor loss was after Proctor just got off the plane after dealing with a serious family situation (if I recall, his wife and baby?).

Andrew, Caple is known for being very anti-Yankee.

There are times when he is a real wise-*** jerk in being that.

This is another of those times.

Tigers vs Twins

Tigers 11 wins

Twins 8 wins

Tigers vs A's
9 games, 6 in Oakland, 3 in Detroit

Detroit wins 5, Oakland wins 4

____________________________

Twins vs A's

10 games, 4 in Oakland, 6 in Minneapolis-St Paul

Minnesota wins 6, Oakland wins 4

Andrew, I read the article you linked to, the ARod victory speech and I thought it was hysterical. I loved it.

Thanks.

Caple even wrote an entire anti-Yankee book called "The Devil Wears Pinstripes."

Anywho, as one of the ladies on this blog, I think Scott Proctor is a hottie. Sure, there's Jeter, A-Rod, a clean-cut Johnny Damon looking all Calvin Klein out there, sure, there's Farnsworth and Mariano, and Dimples Abreu...what's not to like about looking at the Yankees?

But, contrary to popular belief, that's not why I'm a Yankee fan. I'm a Yankee fan because they're the most awesome team in baseball! Woo hoo!

Ok, seriously, I hate watching baseball on ESPN. It's all about how great the Red Sox are, how much adversity they had...that Jon Miller is a complete blow-hard who just likes to hear himself talk. The best way to watch a Yankee game on ESPN is with the mute button. I am so sick of all the anti-Yankee drivel, the A-Rod saga (which the idiot announcers only make worse). During one of the Red Sox games Sunday, I could hear the fans chanting "A-Rod! A-Rod! A-Rod!" when he came up to bat in the 9th with one out, a runner on first and the Sox up by 1. Face it, fickle as we apparently are, we love A-Rod and still believe he'll come through in the clutch. I don't think he or Giambi meant to sound like they did in SI. But hey, what's a season without some controversy? Remember Munson and Reggie?

*Soaks all of the above with champagne*

Yes, I've compared the A-Rod 2006 to Reggie's 1977. Hopefully the end result will be the same.

I do see that the twins were 16-2 in interleague and the Yanks 10-8. Since tiebreakers probably deal with what you did within your OWN league, does that mean the Yanks would have the advantage?

Twins/Yanks 3-3 this year...hmm...if twins win division and have same record as Yanks, who is # 1 seed?

Back at ya Alex, soak it up.

They might use a coin flip in that case Mike.

Did they come out with the schedules for the Divisional Series yet? Usually 3 of the 4 will start on the 3rd, with the other starting the following day. Any word?

Not from what I've seen. But the Yankees schedule might look like this presuming they get home field.:
Oct. 3: Home

Oct. 4: Home

Oct. 6: Away

Oct. 7: Away (If necessary)

Oct. 8: Home (If necessary)

That is what I thought and what i am going by, Alex. Thanks.

I'm on vacation 10/2 to 12, so I'll be camped in front of the TV watching the games!

I'm part of a play on the 6th and 7th so hopefully both games will be scheduled for 8 ET (which is 9 here). So I'll be able to catch it around the 2nd or 3rd hopefully.

Or maybe the Yanks could just sweep so I only have to worry about it on one night.

i just watched video of clubhouse celebration. it didnt look to me like the team hates arod as the media is puting it. they looked pretty happy with him, cause he got champagned and celebrated with, just like everyone else.
happy to see that.

Lola, I think you're taking all of this A-Rod stuff the wrong way. No one has said that everyone hates him. The SI piece focused more on Giambi and Torre taking a little more of a "tough love" approach with him to get him out of his slump.

To think that he wouldn't have been celebrating would be ridiculous. There have been several players over the past five years that most other players couldn't stand, yet they also took part in the celebrations.

Also, stop lumping all media together. It's just not fair.

Mark, do you have any idea as to what the playoff schedules are or where they can be found?

As far as I know, the Yankees will have their home games on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Games 3 and 4 on the road Friday and Saturday. Game 5 would be back in the Bronx on Sunday.

Times won't be announced until the matchups are set.

Oh ok that's the same as last year except reversed. Thanks Mark.

I'm glad the Yankees won't have to face a west coast team. That was ridiculous last year playing game 2 at 10:05 ET. I came home from school and slept for 3 hours so I could watch it. haha

Ok Mark, i apologize for lumping all the media together =).
And its not the SI article that makes it seem as such, its the other ones taking the article which was already probably taken out of context, yet again out of context and reading too deeply into it as all his team mates hate him. Thats not what the article was about, i know that. But we all know all SOME sportswriters needed was a little petrol to light their fire and they'd take it into a whole new dimension. In the past day alone, i have heard and read way too much nonsense for me to not be peeved about it as i am.

I am not trying to lump the media together...there are some sportswriters i respect for being objective, yet being able to do their jobs. Its just that when it comes to certain issues (the yanks, arod), some of them lose all objective edge and completely go haywire.. :-/

But i should stop talking about this issue...i'm tired of it. Its just that i just read this article about him being a clubhouse cancer that nobody likes, and i watch the video and i'm like, thats right about the most stupid thing to say, given what we all can see happening here.

*Pours champagne on Lola*

Alex how did you celebrate last night. As a fellow underage, I had a bottle of coke and a can of Pringles.

Well, Andrew, the Yankees didn't clinch until after about 11:30 so I listened to the end of the game on the radio then went to sleep before the Twins and Sox finished (I knew Minny would win anyway) so this morning I got up and had a bowl of Frosted Flakes while reading all the aritcles and looking at the celebration pics. haha

LOL, Alex u are like the Randy Johnson of this blog, pouring champagne on all of us cause you are taller than us :-D ****

Interesting questiont today that was debated on Mike and Mike.....Santana is scheduled to start the last game of season for Twins. Do you use him and if Twins are tied and win, Twins get home field, or do you by pass him so he'd face the Yankees twice in a 5 games series and possibly lose home field? Of course Mike Greenburg said he'd save Santana for NY and Golic said he'd pitch him to win home field...

Wow I want some Pringles.

I had 3/4 of a glass of wine and then went back to iced tea.

I like those baked potato flavored Pringles.

And the Baked Lays chips.

And those Harvest Grain ones or something like that. Other potato chips are too greasy to me.

I agree with Paul about the ARod acceptance speech. Capele is responding to the SI article with humor and playing to the idea that everything ARod does is scripted. Yankee fans might be a little defensive right now becuase the SI article has become a news story itself, but I think the acceptance speech is funny.

Mark, is there anyway we can try to get one of our players to keep a mlblogs like David Wright, Jorge Cantu, Haren and Robertson do??

even if its just our batboy (although i'd personally prefer robbie :-p)

I think Melky should blog in Spanish (since he doesn't speak a word of English) and then Jorge or Rob can translate for us.

Enough chatter about A Rod and this and that. It is playoff time, which means our pitching has to step up, we have to get everyone 100% healthy, and get some timely hitting. I don't want it to be a repeat of the 2005 ALDS. Let's go Yankees!!!! More often than not, solid pitching and quality defense will wins titles......

I don't think Harvest Grain is the name of the chips I like. it is Sunchips or something like that.

Congrats again, seems NY is in quite happy mood of city. Can't believe it is first yr both NY teams got division titles, too much cyclic.

I know the media is all biased and all, with some reporters very anti-Yankee. But that's media--that's why there's free press, you have people saying what they want, and how they think. It is good for society. You don't need to read/listen to it, or agree it. They can say all they want about A-Rod, thing is just for A-Rod to ignore them, and just play his game.

As for playoffs:

AL East: Yanks

AL Central: Twins (I think they can surge past)

AL WC: Tigers

AL West: A's

This would be more favourable for Yanks than facing Twins first. If they face Twins first, unfortunately, I have to give Twins the edge in the first round. If home field and wc/division comes to final weekend, I think the Twins will look at their chances, and would prefer to rest Santana for Game 1 instead of using him in last game, unless they win No. 1 seed. I think so, and that'd be wise for anyone to do.

DET @ NYY: Yanks in 4 - Detroit's miracle season will not last long as postseason glare blinds and traps tigers; their fantastic pitching staff will win them a game, but offence is too behind

OAK @ MIN: Twins in 4 - Twins have awesome combination of pitching and fundamentals with improved offence, while A's will fight usual late fatigue; Metrodome will be big advantage

No predictions further, since that's hayseedish.

When you look at season series, look closeless beyond the number of wins. Important are how the games are when, when were they played, any players unavailable then, where the games were played, the team's standing before the series, important plays during the games, and how the games were won. Those are all critical, and series later in the season and on the road really magnify a team's potential against opponents.

The only teams Yanks don't want to face are California teams. Simple as that.

Paul, yes sunchips are the brand and I agree they are excellent. Harvest Grain or harvest cheddar or something is the flavor.

Uh oh. Looks like Rich Harden is back and rolling.

3 IP, 1 ER, 7 Ks...

Thomas, I asked last night, but you may have missed it.

Of which team are you a fan, if any, or do you just like baseball?

From the UK? Canada?

Yes, Alex, that's it.

Sun Chips® Harvest Cheddar Multigrain Snacks or

French Onion.

Wow, I want some!

I also love French Onion Soup...especially the melted cheese on top.

The best I ever had was at a small bar/restaurant in Montreal. They make all their own soups but the French Onion is outstanding.

The most unusual French onion soup I had was in a Lebanese restaurant.

What was the name of the place in Montreal?

Saloon on East St Catherine St., out of the way of the center of activity.

A friend recommended it and I went back a number of times.

Not sure if it is still there but when I return to Montreal I will be sure to go if it is.

Another great place to eat there is Mike Bossy's Steakhouse.

But we did not see Mike when we went.

I had a favorite Thai restaurant that was on Amherst St but closed.

Oh and Carlos and Pepe's on Peel St, I think. Good Mexican place. About a block from the good movie theater with stadium seating.

I used to also go to the Peel St Pub which had cheap pitchers of beer and chicken wings. Great place to watch hockey games.

Also was there with friends for a bachelor party. Yeah, we went to Montreal for a bachelor party.

Some of the guys who were not familiar with Montreal expected to use lots of $1 bills during our nighttime excursions for entertainment and were surprised that there were $1 and $2 coins and the smallest bill was $5. It is awkward using a $1 coin in the same way you would use a $1 bill.

OK I am just rambling on. Devoid of baseball tonight, dagnabbit, I babbled without making my desired point on the Peel St Pub.

It was closed right after the bachelor party visit by the health department for recirculating beer among other things.

I have to say, that on that visit we left no beer in the pitchers nor glasses that could be recirculated.

I am getting ready to intercept the your-child-was-missing-today message from school at 7pm.

I got back from lunch 20 minutes late because one of my friends had the brilliant idea to go to Starbuck's after lunch. So naturally, we step back out and see that we were supposed to be in class 5 minutes ago. We sped back, almost killing ourselves and when we got back we were 20 minutes late so we really didn't feel like going to class and just skipped. So now I need to intercept that phone message.

LOL Andrew. I am intrigued by that concept. How does one of those work and how do you go about intercepting it?

On Crescent St. was Dundee's Grill that I liked a lot.

I even liked the touristy places like the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood.

Have been to the Montreal Hard Rock a few times with friends. I think that is also on Crescent St. Planet Hollywood is on St Cath.

Is Carlos and Pepe's across from the Marriot Residence Inn?

Andrew, will you somehow manage to stay out of prison before you turn 18?

Do you have to impersonate your parents on the phone? Isn't that a crime?

It is an automated message saying "your child was missing blah, blah, blah". I'm going to call one of my friends at around 6:55 and stay on the line until 7:05 and when I hear the little beep, I will switch to the school message and hang that one up, then switch back.

Actually I think it is a block or half a block away from there, Alex.

There used to be a truant officer but Andrew kidnapped him and he is in the basement.

Or I can just call myself using my cell phone lol.

Another favorite restaurant in Montreal is Moe's, a local chain. But the one out by Stadium Olympique, not the one by the hockey place, used to be the Molson Centre. This week it is the Bell Canada Centre I think or something like that.

Also Jack Astor's on the South Shore is a favorite.

Why am I off on a Montreal restaurant tangent?

This lack of baseball has me stir crazy. (That is a term you may need soon, Andrew.)

I spent 3 hours looking for my Good Seasons salad dressing cruet. OK, maybe 15 minutes, but it seemed like 3 hours. I had found a packet of the dressing mix and wanted to make it and looked all over for the cruet thing which has the clever lines for vinegar, water, oil, sawdust, crayon shavings, or whatever else goes in.

Hence, I am gleeful.

Haha.. gleeful. I like that word.

Now that I found it and I have the packet in my hand and the cruet I want to make the dressing but it occurred to me that the cruet should be washed because it has been sitting in the cabinets for ages since its last use.

But the dishwasher is not even half full. So I have to wait.

That, and no baseball tonight.

My life is a living ****.

LOL I see, Andrew. So you have to intercept it? What happens if you hang up on it? does it keep trying to call until it gets to snitch on you to someone? Or does it assume its snitching on you was successful if it manages to get through and have someone pickup?

Are you unable to handwash the cruet in the sink?

It is automated so once someone picks up that is it.

Handwash? In the sink?

Not sure I can do that.

Last time I did that the ceiling got very wet and I drowned a plant relatively near the sink.

The dishwasher is much safer and more sanitary as I think it uses 450° water to scald off dirt and creatures.

Thats not too bad to intercept. Was the FourBucks coffee trip worth the stealth you must now be involved in? lol

Even as a kid I actually volunteered to do the dishes for my parents, as I was a model child.

But my parents actually got a dishwasher and banned me from that activity because each time I did it the dog was sopping wet.

LOL I actually spent exactly $4 today. Or $3.99 at least. But yeah it was good. Caramel frapuccinos in the cold weather outside are always enjoyable.

10 minutes to the moment of truth.

Actually they somehow did not take my side in the dispute that if, in fact, there had been a water fight of any sort. My contention that the dog started it fell on deaf ears.

Hahaha.. somehow I imagined that might be the case. No point in trying to start the 6th Great Lake in your kitchen. I am allergic to doing dishes myself. I only do them because I am allergic to germs and crusty food more than doing dishes.

That's because blaming the dog (for anything) usually does fall upon deaf ears, lol. Dogs are apparently innocent of all things. Even though my black lab belches and snores like a grown man.

If I fill the cruet with soapy water and microwave it for 15 minutes, I wonder if that would clean it sufficiently?

What is a cruet...?

2 minutes!

Calling my cell phone now...

oh that's resourceful! You know it probably would... although 15 minutes may be a bit extreme.. in that time the cruet might spontaneously combust.

True, Andrew. Frappacino anything is always worth the cost.. well most times, lol

Just baseball in general. Used to like Montreal Expos from living in Canada before, until they relocated.

Catch ya later people, I'm gonna watch the twins/redsox game.

I recall my very first microwave experience.

I bought a small microwave for my office and I invited my staff to use it also and they made the critical mistake of leaving me alone with a new toy...

what did you melt/explode in it?

I also tend to eschew directions.

So I decided to heat something in the microwave and looked for something that I could test.

So I found Pop Tarts™.

Strawberry, I recall.

Not the Frosted type, though I prefer those now.

So I unwrapped and put one Pop Tart on a plate and figured, maybe 4 minutes and then I will check to see if it was heated yet.

It was like Krackatoa.

If anyone ever saw the Brady Bunch episode where Peter created a volcano, you then have the image I saw through the window of the microwave.

Except it was Mount Strawberry with molton fruit filling bursting out of the center of the Pop Tart™!

Oh no..

How does one clean up strawberry lava?

No phone call...

I was searching for a picture of the cruet. It is a glass container with a plastic cap with measuring lines for the ingredients.

No luck.

Strawberry lava takes some time to cool. And when it does it is like cement.

It was sad to have to chisel away at the insides of a brand new microwave.

The instruction guide did not cover strawberry lava, and calling technical support it was hard to understand any suggestions through the laughter.

Don't even make me talk about the time I got my tie stuck in the printer.

Phone call intercepted!

Oh that can't have been fun removing the straberry lava. Do I even want to ask how someone manages to get their tie stuck in a printer?

Guys, I just read on a general baseball message board that ESPNews is reporting that Giambi has a torn ligament in his wrist. ?!?
Is NESPN just engaging the latest installment of their Let's Eff With Yankee Fans Who Are Trying To Enjoy Their Team's Victory plan, or is something really amiss with Jason here?

Here is a link fo rthe Good Seasons page at Kraft.

See the box? The cruet is in there.

http://www.kraftfoods.com/main.aspx?s=product&m=product/Product_display&Site=1&Product=4300097868

Did they call you later to lull you into a false sense of security? lol

Gina: I read in the NYY site that Jason Giambi didn't fly to Tampa. He's back to New York. But they think that, resting him this weekend, everything's going to be OK

Gina, I think there is a good chance there is something seriously wrong with his wrist.

Giambi's wrist has been bothering him for a while and his hitting has really been affected.

I would not be surprised if he is not around for the post season.

However, Sheff at 1B and Matsui at DH keeps Melky in the field. If Sheff does not work at 1B there are 3 other decent options in Phillips, Wilson, or Guiel.

I found this in Yankees site. It's the Boss who is talking:

"Winning the division title is very gratifying to me because it shows the total Yankee organization -- on and off the field -- demonstrating incredible guts, smarts and quality in the face of adversity and stiff competition.

"This is just the first step and I'm excited about playing hard to win the championship. I'm incredibly proud of every single member of the Yankee family."

Now, I wonder: Is he referring to us???????????????

Gina and Paul. This is what the article says about Giambino:
NEW YORK -- Jason Giambi will be out of the lineup this weekend against the Devil Rays with his left wrist injury, and the first baseman may be forced to undergo surgery this winter if the problem doesn't correct itself.

While his team traveled to Tampa on Wednesday night, Giambi returned to New York, where he was examined by hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser and team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon.

Giambi received an injection -- his third in less than a month -- and was told to sit out this weekend's series in Tampa Bay. Giambi should be available to play next week when the Yankees return home.

So, let's hope he'll be ready for October. But the article also says this:

Giambi is hitting .163 with three home runs and nine RBIs in September, collecting just seven hits in 43 at-bats.

"He's not swinging the bat well with this pain," general manager Brian Cashman said.

So, we'll have to wait. It's anything guess how his wrist really is going on

I meant "It's anyone's guess"

Thanks, Jorge.

My point in my post is that it is not the end of the world if he is done for the season. I hope not, but the Yankees can still win it all.

That good seasons ingredient list is somewhat compelling.

Is it true that the 11 secret herbs and spices in KFC is Good Seasons spices?

Thanks, Jorge! I was just about to write that Mark had posted an article on Giambi within the hour.

There is something wrong in the article, though. Giambi's stats are wrong. He has NO homers in September (none since 8/20) and I think only 3 rbi.

Thanks to Alex and Mark for the ALDS schedule...(not set in stone, but that's what it looks like).

Just checked some stats, and I have some final touchups to do for my column for our fanclub newsletter...but if Giambi heals up somewhat and DHs, and Sheff and Matsui are in the lineup, then the ENTIRE LINEUP will consist of players with an OPS of .800 or higher. Wow. Even Matsui and Sheff (Sheff was .811 when he went down). Over .800 is good. About .750 is average. Bernie is .775 and Melky .767. Everyone over .800 is incredible.

Back later maybe...busy!

Thanks, Jorge and Paul, for the updates. I knew something was wrong w/his wrist but didn't think it was anything that resting him couldn't fix. I just freaked out when I heard the words "torn ligament"...I dont know too much about sports injuries but that sounded bad :\

I *really* hope he ends up being able to contribute in the postseason, not only cause his bat would be great for our offense, but b/c of how much I have admired his cojones and general fight in the recent past. I am thinking great things for the Yanks in the next month or so and I know it would crush him if he couldn't be a part of them.

No they didn't call later to give me a false sense of security. The **** thing is set to go off exactly at 7pm.

Uh-oh, the page censored out a word that I didn't think was bad, and now the **** in my post makes me look like a perv! :0
LOL I didn't mean that I admired anything X-rated on him! Just his courage under fire and so forth.

It is a strange censor. It censors some weird things.

Indeed...I guess I will have to figure that out through trial and error :)

It's a very simple mistake. Someone looked under the wrong column. The 3 isn't in the HR column, it's the RBI column, and the 9 isn't under the RBI column, it is the walks column for September.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=3226

LOL my friend got greased by one of the automated phone messages. Hahahahahahahahaha

Wow, Giambi has a stalker.

Mussina will be jealous after you pledged yourself to him.

Santana is looking strangely hittable tonight.

You obviously need to "share the stealth" Andrew, lol.

Santana lost his last game.

He is the best pitcher in baseball this year I think but the Yankees have handled him in the past.

Santana just made 2 errors on one play.

It's a well known fact that there is an automated messaging system that calls your home if you miss a class or the school day. He should have known better.

LOL, I didnt know that. BUt then, I haven't been in school for about 14 years now, lol.

Pedro a no-no through 4

Does anyone speak Italian?

When I was looking for the cruet I came upon a jar of some food-type substance that someone brought me from Italy.

The paper with it says:

Azienda Agrituristica Biologica

"Il Giardino di Iti"

della Baronessa Bebe Cherubini

C.da Amica Rossano Calabro (Cs)

and then a phone #

That is just on the front of the card. Inside there is more. The only part I understand above is that it is an biological agricultural experiment.

I went more than 6 years without missing a day of school.

Even in my corporate life over 12 years I missed 2 days, and those were both taken because I was traveling.

I missed like 14 days of school last year, 13 because of travel and 1 because I wouldn't go to school on Thanksgiving.

Azienda is company so thats probably the name of who made it or its brand name.

What does it look like. Is it like a garden mix of vegetables or is like a spaghetti sauce?

Oh I bet you dont get thanksgiving off in Bermuda.

Nope we don't which makes sense but doesn't at the same time considering Labor Day is a public holiday here.

Canada has Thanksgiving but it is October there, around what we know as Columbus Day.

The food substance is a condiment of sorts.

Inside it says

Diavoleria

CONDIMENTO UNIVERSALE

Ingr: Peperoncino

Aromi naturali

Olio Extra vergine di Oliva

Produtto lavorato rigorosamente senza conservanti

_________________________

I think the ingredients are peppercorns, body odor, and extra virgin olive oil, and the words under it warn that rigormortis will set in soon after eating this.

The Canadians steal all our holidays.

Paul from what it looks like it says .. From the garden of the baron bebe from friend rossano calabro

Oh thanks, Shawn. Do any of the words translate into poison?

No, veleno is poison

and Peperoncino is paprika

LOL.. let me guess.. NO use by date?

Aromi naturali = body odor.. haha

Paprika? That may be why it is a reddish color.

no use by date. That is mostly an American thing.

This is from a small town in Italy. I guess.

It might be like one of those dipping oils for warm bread. Italy is really big on those. Or it could be like those infused olive oils.

Paul I always used this as a rule of thumb: If I can't read what's on the label, I normally don't eat/drink or set it on fire.

Does that happen very often in Bermuda, Alex?
lol

It depends Angel, haha.

Wow strange thing to see this place busy on an offday.

I am about to go and watch CSI season return.

Its very obliging of the yankees to have an off night when CSI comes back on.

Same Angel. Dissappointed to see Grissom and Sara together at the end of last season.

This is on the back page of the card with the food substance:
_____________________________

Dalla terra Calabra l'Azienda Agrituristica "Il Giordino di Iti" con l'amore per le vecchie tradizioni ha selezionato questo prodotto preparandolo con cura e attenzio-ne per voi

BUON APPETITO

Alex, I had not given thought to setting it on fire.

I think I received this from the same person who brought be something from Thailand.

That was the LAST thing I expected, Alex. I want to see where they are going with that.. hopefully it was some kind of bizarre dream thing or something, lol.

I hope if they get rid of a character that they get rid of Sara and not Brass or anyone else.

The plot thickens.. it was made with love .. something about traditions and prepared with attention.. lol

Good eating!

lol she really annoys my husband too.. he thinks shes needy and gross.

He pretty much hit the nail on the head with that analysis.

I went to Babel fish to translate and it came up with

From the Calabra earth the Agrituristica Company "the Giordino di Iti" with the love for the old traditions has selected this product preparing it with cure and attention for you

Griss should go for Catherine or Sophie.

LOL preparing it with cure???

Sheesh.. thats a bit alarming.

Diavoleria
UNIVERSAL CONDIMENTO

Ingr: Chili pepper

natural Aromas

Extra Oil vergine of Olive Produtto worked rigorously without conserving

___________________________

That still may mean body odor.

I just picked out the words that looked similar to english .. haha.

I told him that she's only needy as a character.. but he said she still looks the same even when she's not in character.. haha.

I bet it does.. European women are very au naturel.. lol.

I remember when Lucy and Ethel were in Italy and were in the huge barrel stomping grapes.

There were some earthy women in the tub with them.

Earthy is a very tactful way of putting it.. haha

6-0 Red Sox,,,Fatty w/2 HR's

The opportunity for the Twins to take 1st place is going away tonight. I thought that, with Santana on the hill, they would get it. I was wrong. Besides, if the Twins would win, they would eliminate Boston from the Wild Card Race. They will stay alive for one more day. A slow way to die :-) :-) :-)

hey all, off work. Yankees kick ***. I was giving high fives to random people on campus today with yankee gear and someone at the office said "hey everybody what's the difference between fenway franks and yankee dogs?" "you don't eat fenway franks in october" hahaha and i've heard it before and laughed anyway

Hi all.

I feel sorry for Mark. I just finished my monthly column for our fan club, and being a perfectionist, I must edit it 10 times before it goes out. Mark does this daily.

If anyone wants to see what I wrote, check out:

http://www.lvyankeefanclub.com/columns/

I'm not as good as Mark, and you don't have to agree with me, but I hope you like it!

PS. No cheating on the trivia question! Try to figure it out for yourself before scrolling down for the answer!

Ortiz' 2 hrs give him the Red Sox record for HR in a season. He now has 52. Jimmie Foxx hit 50 in his MVP season of 1938. Foxx hit 50 HR and drove in 175 runs that year. He was named MVP even though the Tigers' Hank Greenberg had 58 hr.

But we all know who won the WS that year, don't we???

okay back to watching my yankees tomorrow I hate hospitals!
-kayleee

1938? Wasn't that the Mets?

:)

mike i got mcdowell but not kameniecki, my guess was key, but i guess he wasn't on board till his clutch win in the 96 postseason. I remember mcdowell in game 5 as well, ruining my life at that time and ken griffey jr scoring on a martinez hit into th eleft field corner...i also remember joey cora cheating in games 3 and 4 by running out of the baseline on bunts to mattingly...that *******

Kaylee, you should be able to give Giambi, Sheff and Matsui expert advice on wrists.

Key missed most of the 1995 season due to injury. Key was 18-6 in 1993 and 17-4 in the shortened 1994 season.

yeah but that is not why i hate hospitals!

Vince---Thanks for checking out the site!

*yawn* tonite is boring, no celebration..no Mikes, no doing the cabbage patch.
I miss being in college...i am tired of this grown business. Hey, for those of you in it, stay in college for as long as u like...the whole making $$ gets old after the first yr (grad'ed in 05). *yaaaaawwn*

anytime mike....my one question. do you think by wang pitching games 1 and 5 that if he pitches 5, him not pitching until probably games 3 and 7 would be a major issue since both are on the road? I personally think i would pitch him in game 2 of the alds (esp if its against the tigers and not the twins) and have mussina or johnson pitch 1 and 3 so wang could have 2 and 6 or even 1 and 5 in the alcs

lol lola i feel like my parents think the whole spending money for me to be here business will get old, i don't know around may of 2009 so i don't think i have a choice.

also, if we could win the alds in less than 5 that would be very sweet, then we don't have to worry about when wang pitches...If we face the twins in the alds i pitch wang in game 2 and mussina game 1 with the understanding santana may beat us...if that happens at least we have our ace to tie the series and a better 3 starter to put us ahead 2-1 when they will prob use santana on short rest and either lose or force game 5 against mussina with an inferior pitcher....if its the tigers though, then i might use wang in game 1

Well, if the Yanks advance to the ALCS like we hope they will, and the Yanks have the best record in the league like we hope they will (and the last I checked, the Tigers AND Twins were losing tonight...very good :-) ) Game 3 would be on the road, but Game 7 of the ALCS would be at Yankee Stadium.

Wang pitching in games 3 and 7 in the ALCS would only be an issue if the Yankees end up playing the Twins, I would think.

Nice column there Mike. Although I intended to read it and then go look up the answers to the Trivia, unfortunately, I started reading the answers before I realized it.

:O @ CSI Episode. At least they're keeping the episodes interesting. I hate To Be continued episodes.. i hate knowing I have to wait till next week, lol.

stay in college for as long as u like...from LOLA

"Seven years of college down the drain..." "Bluto" Blutarsky in Animal House, 1978

Getting my undergrad degree was the best 5 1/2 years of my life.

Eh, I took my time. Was in no hurry to graduate.

Thanks, Rob. Much appreciated.

Who are we expecting to be on the Twins' postseason rotation? Johan Santana for sure, but who else? Brad "Bizarro Pavano" Radke? Matt Garza? Carlos Silva? Scott Baker?

The Twins might be able to squeak out 3 wins in the ALDS against another team, but if we face them in the ALCS, there is no way the other guys in that rotation can take the Yankees' lineup down.

Could be Boof Bonser. If the Twins face the Yanks, they could throw Baker. For some god-forsaken reason, the Yanks had trouble with him this year.

LOL...ok, maybe dont stay in college for as long as u like :-p
5 yrs is good. i should know. but then again, i did engineering..and 3 minors.

anyway, vince, enroll in law school or something right after graduation. run away from the real world for as long as possible. i know this is bad advice, lol, i guess i am just tired.

Rob, thats whats up! :-D

Don't be too carried away with ALCS. Having it start in the staium is a big bonus and plus, esp. if ALDS goes many games. Concentrate on ALDS first.

If Yanks face Twins, I'd put RJ in Game 1 facing Santana. Why? Mussina pitches as well on road as anyone on staff, and he can be relied along with Wang to win games 2 and 3. If it goes 5, then RJ will have to pitch, but that's tradeoff and best not to go 5.

If Tigers, then yes, Wang and RJ. I would usually let Moose pitch game 3 since he is most consistent, even on road. Though RJ seems to pitch better on road too this year.

Just concentrate on getting home field first and the ALDS, before the ALCS. Santana looked a bit mortal today, which should be good news for all potential opponents. Yes, the Twins rotation is Santana and the three unknown Stooges, but Stooges can outsmart and put on quite show, esp. rookies against Yanks.

Yup. 1st things 1st. There are 4 levels. Level 1 completed successfully. Make the playoffs. Level 2 is win the ALDS, 3 the ALCS and 4 the WS.

One level at a time.

BTW, Lola, I liked that subtitle on your blog. It's hillarious.

"Torn wrist ligament shelves Giambi; Pavano done"

Wow. I was totally shocked by that last part of the headline. Totally unprepared for that. Almost shat myself. Just, wow.

"Put it on the Board..........YES" White Sox DONE, history, losing 9-0 tonight, put a fork in them and the HAWK>>>>>>>>YES

The Hawk and White Sox...HE GONE...

The Hawk. Kenny Harrelson. Picked up by Boston after Tony C. got beaned on 8/18/67. Didn't do much in 1967 but had a good year in 1968. (Led league in RBI if I remember correctly). Also, if I remember correctly, he was the first to wear "batting" gloves.

and a horrible announcer.......

Twinky starters in the games against the Yankees this year:

Silva: 0-1, 4 IP, 6 R (4 earned), 1 BB, 4 K (9/1, Yankees 8-1)

Baker: 2-0 12.0 IP, 2 R, 4 BB, 8K (4/14, Twins 5-1; 9/2, Twins 6-1)

Garza: 0-1, 4.2 IP, 5 R, 4 BB, 2 K (9/3, Yankees 10-1)

Santana: 0-0, 6.1 IP, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K (4/15, Twins 6-5)

Radke: 0-1, 6 IP, 6 R, 1K (4/16, Yankees 9-3)

So true about the Hawk.

Anyone see the pix of Pavano's girlfriend? ...not only that, but the guy once dated Alyssa Milano?

One Big...

SHEESH!

Gotta Go...

See Ya!

Yankee starters in those games against the Twinkies were:

4/14: Mussina (L)

4/15: Wright (no decision, Rivera lost, with a BS)

4/16: Wang (W)

9/1: Lidle (W)

9/2: Karstens (L) (rain shortened game, no 9th)

9/3: Rasner (W)

That's right, I forgot about Boof Bonser. He'd probably be in there in Garza's place against the Yankees, assuming the Yanks face the Twins again.

Keep in mind that the rookie thing doesn't apply to EVERY rookie that faces the Yankees. Can we get some numbers here? I mean, I know that Adam Loewen owned us this year, but Adam Loewen does not equal every rookie pitcher. What about Jon Lester and Matt Garza?

Whoever can compile a total stat line of combined rookies' pitching performances against the Yankees, that will do a great, great service to Yankees fans everywhere.

Why did I post all that info about the Twins and Yankees? My own curiosity, I wanted to see how the Twins had pitched against the Yankees this year. Other than Baker, their starters have not enjoyed much success. Even Santana gave up 4 runs in his only start against the Yankees. Granted, that was way back in April, but I'm still encouraged by it. What might have happened in that game if anybody but Wright was pitching against him? Who knows.

It was interesting reading.

The Twins info is much appreciated, Rob. It's a good look at how the Yankees might expect to do in the playoffs against them.

Exactly. Although the games aren't played on paper.. its good to know what kind of matchups and history is on your side, lol.

Hey everyone, just checking in before bed, I have a nasty cold.

I attended 2 Yanks-Twins games this year, and the Yankees won both (finale of both series). Wang looked very good against the Twins, but that was in April. Radke, who had a "promising" bullpen session today according to Twins radio, looked awful, but he did get off to a slow start. The Twins struggle more with finesse pitchers than power pitchers, I think. Moose and Wang are good draws, Wright is not. RJ is capable of beating anyone if he is on and I remember he dominated the Twins last year. Other Twins-Yanks notes:

-Sheffield once cranked a game tying homer vs. Joe Nathan, who proceeded to melt down afterwords. If he blows one he goes to pieces.

-Boof Bonser's been quite good of late, but I have never seen him and have no clue what he's like

-Morneau was the ******* who blew Mo's save in April.

-before that, the Yanks had a somewhat dramatic rally vs. Santana. Despite the loss, Wang restored order the next day.

-Walking Mauer to get to Cuddyer and Morneau to get to Hunter has produced awful results for Twin opponents.

-Scouting report on Santana today: he could not locate his slider at all and his change up was mediocre, leaving him throwing a lot of fastballs. It was his shortest outing of the year. Boston's lineup is similar to the Yankees in style, which bodes well.

-Twins fans are frightened of their starting rotation past their immortal, godly Santana.

Night everyone.

Hope you feel better soon, Karl.

If you saw the final game in both Yankee series with Minnesota this year you went to the April 16 game at the Homer Dome and the Sept 3 game in NY? I did not realize you got to Yankee Stadium. That must have been a great trip.

Yeah, I think the Yanks can beat the Twins. Oakland as I mentioned above (at 2:54 PM), detailing each game this year, really owns the Yankees this year winning 6 out of 9.

That is the team to worry about.

Back to bed for me.

A Florida paper reports that Joe Girardi will be fired at the end of the season. I would then expect the Cubs to fire Dusty Baker and hire Girardi. I think the Marlins are making a big mistake here.

Also, about 1000 fans walked out of an Orioles-Tigers game in Camden Yards last night to protest the Orioles direction and Angelos’ ownership. To that I ask, “What took you so long?”

The O's front office has been deceiving itself for years. They can't just keep buying up mid-level veterans during the offseason in the hopes that they can compete. The worst part was that they didn't even trade anyone at the deadline...they were lucky enough to get rid of Javy Lopez and Jeff Conine by through waivers. They're going to have to go into a building mode, like the Devil Rays have. The sad part is that the O's starting rotation has the potential to be really good, but for some reason Leo Mazzone was only able to work his magic on Erik Bedard. Maybe Nick Markakis, Adam Loewen, and Chris Ray can start some sort of youth movement to put that team back into contention someday.

I know I shouldn't care about what happens to our rivals in the AL East, but it pains me to see what some front offices do to their fans.

Regarding Girardi, whatever team he's on, I'm sure he will lead them to the playoffs too, as that seems to be the pattern with former Yankees bench coaches under Joe Torre's tutelage. That should tell you something, shouldn't it?

A few things about Girardi and a possible future Cubs connection. He obviously played with the Cubs. He has an engineering degree from Northwestern. His father is in Illinois suffering from Alzheimer's.

I could be wrong, but I think I heard once that managing the Cubs is Girardi's dream job. It would be great if he gets it.

Tonight's game is on UPN, but for those of you listening on the radio (or who want to listen to the radio)...Suzyn Waldman won't be doing tonight's game. She will be observing Rosh Hashannah.

Filling in for her will be the one and only...

Constantino Martinez.

Can't wait to listen to Tino tonight! I have been counting down the hours since I woke up :)
Yankeefan, I liked your column and agree w/you about the O's fan protest... I can't believe they didn't do it sooner and I think the way Angelos has come back at them and whined about how "he chooses to keep ticket prices low" is lame. I don't buy it. Lots of teams have low ticket prices and it doesnt force them to be as bad as the O's.

Also about Girardi, I'd be happy for him if he got the Cubs job, but Jeffrey Loria would be the biggest idiot EVER to let him go!

It will be great to hear Tino's perspective, especially since he played with a bunch of the guys on the team. I don't know how he'll do with Sterling's Broadway references, though.

Thanks for the kind words.

Checking a story on SI on the sad ramblings of an anti-Yankee fan.

Sad.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/pete_mcentegart/09/22/ten.spot/index.html

Actually, I like being hated...

or, as Jeter says in the commercial, "going on the road and having people booing us and hating us"

It means you are WINNING!

I don't want to be lovable like the Cubbies or the 1962 Amazing Mets.

"2. Bandwagon Yankees fans: Even if they view winning titles as their birthright, I don't (entirely) begrudge fans who have rooted for the team through thick and thin. (Valid reasons include that your dad rooted for the team, that you picked them at a young age, etc.) But the hordes of Yankees "fans" who have hopped aboard in the last decade make me nuts."

I can't speak about the Mets, but I can assure you that the Red Sox have a lot of bandwagon fans. It's very cool and trendy to be a Red Sox fan in Boston right now, and I know a couple of people who became major fans in more recent years. I also know many die hards. The point is, any team that wins is going to have its share of bandwagon fans.

"4. When national media assume that all of New York roots for the Yankees"

How often have we heard that all of New England roots for the Red Sox? I can only roll my eyes when I hear that.

"5. The cult that has grown around average players that were part of the recent Yankees dynasty: ... While legitimate superstars who somehow don't qualify as "true Yankees" like A-Rod are pilloried, career mediocrities such as Scott Brosius and Luis Sojo are lionized because fans focus on the few clutch hits they contributed in their many postseason opportunities."

We know that these players aren't going to the Hall of Fame, but they were integral to the Yankees success. I think it's better to recognize that than ignore it. We are fans of the team and have every right to celebrate our players.

"7. The myth of Yankees' scouting and player development: Bronx Bombers fans like to talk about their "homegrown" stars, but in reality this is an outdated notion. Sure, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada get credited to the Yanks' farm system, but none is younger than 32. Increasingly, what is billed as the Yanks' drafting acumen is anything but. Rather, the Yanks excel in throwing money at players who aren't subject to the draft at all, those from baseball-rich areas such as the Dominican Republic and Asia. The Yankees' best current young players -- Chien-Ming Wang, Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera -- were all available to the highest bidder as amateurs. Gee, guess who that was?" Really? All we have heard for the last few years is how the Yankees have no prospects. And, maybe the team can (or is willing to) pay to sign young international stars, but some pan out and some don't. Who else was talking about Wang before he reached 15 wins this year? Maybe the guys from 96 are in their 30s, but the point is that the team won with a core group from the system despite the accusations from everyone else that the Yankees only win becuase they buy their stars. Every team has a combination of players they got from trades, signed as free agents, and came up from the minors.

Wow that guy is angry and bitter.

I would make sure he has no guns and keep him away from library towers.

Classic inferiority complex and he clearly is obsessed with sports.

Nothing wrong with being a Mets fan and rooting for your team. But he is determined to knock the Yankees.

Sad.

It is the epitome of hypocrisy for many baseball team owners to gripe about money when invariably they have more money than Steinbrenner and they do NOT invest it in their team.

Instead they pocket the spoils and whine incessantly.

you know what notion i really despise? I hate when people make it seem like as if if you werent born to be a fan of this and that team, you are a bandwagon fan.
I mean, what kind of reasoning is this? Should i have to apologize that my family is more into soccer and mathematics and dont have the slightest clue about baseball?

I take offense to it when people say this because i started becoming a yankee fan at the age of 13 on my own when i went to my first baseball game with my church. So some idiot says to me that it was 96 when they were winning, so i am a bandwagon fan. Man, some people...

A few years ago, one of the sportswriters for our local newspaper had some commentary where he criticized Yankee fans for being bandwagon jumpers. He always knocks New York fans and kisses Philly's tush. Anyway, at this time, there was a "Reader's Sound Off" portion of the newspaper. It isn't there anymore.

Well, I wrote him and let him know that the first year I remembered rooting for the Yanks was 1967 at the age of five (I might have started beforehand, but don't remember pre-1967). I then reminded this writer that the Yanks finished in 9th place that year out of 10 teams, so I was no bandwagon jumper. I then gave a list of players who were on the Yanks in 1967, as well as a rundown of the pennant races of 1967 and the 1967 All Star Game and World Series.

The guy didn't reply at all. Not a peep. I heard from some people that knew the guy that I embarrassed the living you-know-what out of him. I also got a lot of "thank you's" from a lot of Yankee fans.

That's funny Mike.

Did anyone else have trouble signing on to the blog this afternoon?

Yes. I did.

I think for 2 or 3 hours the blog was unreachable for some reason.

Yes, Libby the comment box would not load for several hours and the sign in link would constantly reappear.

I think it was a terrorist plot.

The following is from the MLB pregame notes but another Mark.

Pitching matchup

NYY: RHP Chien-Ming Wang (17-6, 3.64 ERA)

The key for Wang is to keep the bases empty. He has an 0.84 ERA with the bases empty, but a 7.39 ERA when at least one runner is on base.

TB: RHP James Shields (6-7, 4.82 ERA)

Shields is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in two starts against the Yankees this season.

Oops, BY another Mark. Mark Polishuk is an associate reporter for MLB.com.

Perhaps our Mark is off tonight for the holiday or just for recovery after the road trip.

To all celebrating the holiday, best wishes for a Happy New Year.

And to Mel Gibson, no soup for you!

true....only 2 games up in loss column for home field I think

the only thing that really bothers me that i can't brush aside from that article is the september 11th one.....that man has no right whatsoever to claim ny wasn't rooting for the yankees in the 2001 world series because I know as a fact the entire city was.....and pretty much everyone not on the west coast or in new england. That really really annoys me and I know firsthand that just because he is a jealous, arrogant ******* of a mets fan with blind hatred for the consistantly superior ny team, doesn't mean more civilized mets fans were pulling for the yankees in 2001, much like yankee fans such as my parents pulled for the mets in 86.

i didn't mean the entire city, i meant most of it, and hte country... that ws wasn't about a dynasty or baseball so much as it was about ny and the entire country rallying around something that was right int he world and american.

Pete's blog has Melky leading off.

There are also some VERY interesting quotes on there. Go check them out.

Here is the line up Pete posted. Game Day seems not to be available yet.

NOT trying to cause a stir...but I am wondering why we aren't playing our best line up last 10 games to secure home field advantage....any thoughts??? Just wondering why A Rod or Abreu not playing tonight. I see Damon hand is sore....

Geez.

No point in explaining it again.

Joe is picking this line up just to confuse you.

Torre will be resting people down the stretch to keep everyone fresh and minimize the chance of injury.

I've been trying to go on some other sites and am having trouble. Between the blog trouble and the slowness of getting on there, I want to scream. Not just my home computer, but also during my work breaks...

Paul, why are always such a smart ***? I just asked a question. If the answer is to rest people, they had an off day yesterday, so I am just wondering.......your a jerk

Thanks Yankee for info........

Mike, It is a waste of time explaining stuff for the 1000th time to an androgynous whining ninny.

Mike, many sites have been slow today. Maybe there were Internet problems.

MLB has been slow as well as the log in issues earlier.

Michael Kay is back. I'll be heading out later, but will be watching on UPN while listening to Tino. Of course those of us able to watch the game will be watching Sheff at 1b.

Pete Abe's Pavano info was interesting.

Sure he does not want to go to another organization, they might make him work. He is on the gravy train with the Yankees.

My guess is Sheff will be fine in the position, maybe not great but adequate.

Not to mention watching Sheff hit...

Yup. We've seen worse first basemen, on the Yanks and on other teams...

He won't be a **** "Dr. Strangeglove" Stuart, that's for sure!

Like a wast of time w/your smart *** comments Paul...you ever work?

The Pavano comments are especially interesting becuase Torre doesn't often talk about his players like that.

Russ, Torre was quoted as saying he would rest half the lineup wednesday and half today so that everyone would get back to back days off.

Yeah, Libby, it was unusual.

Can you blame him? Enough already of this story. I hope he never pitches for the Yankees.

Not sure it will take much for that to happen since he will manage to avoid it the rest of his contract.

Although, one could argue that Pavano isn't one of his players because he has been on the DL for such a long time.

I really hope Pavano does not get a share of the World Series purse.

If I was Pavano, I wouldn't even want it. I wouldn't feel like I earned it. But that's just me.

He did not earn his salary either.

Evening everybody! I am loving this Tino on WCBS thing immesurably already! :)
Almost makes up for not having YES to see Sheff at 1b. Keep me updated on how he's looking!

Baldelli really knocked around the Yanks last time he faced them.

Living in the Philippines, I don't often get to watch the Yankees celebrate in their dugout... Thank god for internet and youtube... if anyone wants to watch the celebration, here's the url.

http://tinyurl.com/m8a4b

uh, oh. Gone.

Thanks, Mark, I have just Game Day and I saw a bit on Yankee.com.

He did not earn his salary either.

Posted by: paul1040@aol.com | September 22, 2006 07:19 PM

True.

Baldelli again.

Egad, I warned about that.

Where's Andrew? He needs to kidnap Baldelli and put him in his trunk.

Ugh. Why doncha guys kidnap Baldelli this time.

Awww, nothing bums me out more than 1st-inning runs off Wang. :(

at the end of the year i request somebody remember all of the inside jokes that take place in this family.

i can think of the following:

1. the jorge puns

2. andrew's trunk

3. nick green

4. kasey

5. cheese from the shaker

6. long walks on the beach

7. the trademark/registered symbols

also it seems to me the playoff rotation will officially be:
1. wang

2. johnson

3. mussina

4. NA

5. wang

Don't forget all the other plites there have been Vince.
Did anyone else read about Pete Abe's flite to Tampa?

Most all of that stuff was totally spontaneous, Vince.

Like the Nick Green stuff.

Some haggard dope told us to stop it so you know it continued and we all jumped on it and went with it for at least a few days.

no but i read about his FLIGHT to tampa :)

Wang or Johnson would be on schedule to start game 1 Vince, so Torre can mix and match how he pleases.

according to the michael kay, torre would be comfortable with wang pitching twice at home, and mussina in game 3.

To those who are watching the game, can you post comments on how Sheff is swinging, when he gets his turn to bat?

Vince the FLITE PLITE is because Angel was complaining about someone misspelling ight words like tonight.

So we converted all ight words to ite.

And add the frozen turkeys to the list.

no problem m4rk

ah yes frozen turkeys....o ok, i'm on board with torturing angel then

Paul, on the gameday, if you look at the 404 foot marker to the right of center field there is a little square without a 4th side next to it...do you know what it's for?

Nah, we did that for a while. We could rest it a bit.

That could be a playoff torture.

well we only saw one swing from shef...his eye looked good, he chopped on the ball.....he looked normal

Yes, Alex. If you click it you get a Scarlett Johansson screensaver. But only if you are over 18.

maybe its the tv but he looked a lot skinnier

You have a good imagination dude.

i hate james shields, scott baker and danny haren ...and that guy on the indians

Joking, Alex. No idea and I did not notice it until you pointed it out.

Drat. 2 innings, 20 pitches for Shields.

I was thinking about watching the first 5 innings or so (that's all the tape could hold) of ALCS game 3 in 2003. It always gets me in the playoff spirit. And yes, I got the entire brawl on it. haha

Dagnabbit, 1st batter single.

Why don't we ever get players like Navarro?

Was that the one with Zim taking on Pedro?

Yes it was.

Eh. I don't know how reliable gameday is, but Wang's pitches look like they're up.

wang and shields are both not getting the low strike tonight

Thanks, Alex.

better Wang inning, but at 29 pitches.

Strike zone seems to be shrinking the closer the playoffs get.

How was Sheff handling the pick off throws?

Hello Family, How are all the heads?? I have already ordered my t-shirt from MLB, it cost me a small fortune ($40 american) to have it psoted form the US, but hey it was worth it!!!! I celebrated with Pizza and Coke!!!

psoted = posted

Difficult play by Sheff according to the radio. 1st test and he did ok.

Yes, good job Sheff! Great sign as Tino just said.

Mark, thanks for those You Tube links. I am watching them also as well as Game Day and listening to the radio.

YAAAAY ROBBIE!

GO ROBBIE!!!!

YES!!! GO CANO!!!

Tino on the youngsters: "I think these guys have a lot better swing than I ever had." Awwwwwwwwwwww!!! :D

Paul, you're welcome. Glad you could enjoy them as I did.

Hi everyone.. its nice to see Sheff back. How has he looked at first base?

He made one good play that made Tino notice it. Tino is subbing for Suzyn on the radio.

Hello all! Good pitching or offense a no show? Which is it? Just got here.

Door # 2 Rob.

Ohh thanks, I might turn the radio on.. I'd love to hear Tino cover a yankee game!

I just looked at the line up and noticed we are still going with a lot of "B" team guys. No A-Rod. No Abreu. No Damon.

Hope this is ok now. Really having trouble today with Internet, this blog, etc.

Top 5TH B:0 S:2 O:1
With Miguel Cairo batting, Aaron Guiel steals (7) James Shields's wallet.

Guiel steals?!? I love it!

Phillies leading Marlins...yay :)

Rats. Miggy didn't get him in.

Wow, and a PB?!

Cmon Nick Green!

I always would have taken Guiel on our postseason roster over Wilson but now he is really making his case. Steal and heads-up baserunning...it's the little things!

Looks like Howard hit another one. The guy is a beast.

Not to mention that he's got a new wallet Gina.

I said a while ago I would take Guiel over Wilson, as well as Phillips or Green.

I don't think Guiel will make it because there are already enough lefty bats on the team. That's one reason they will probably go with Wilson or Phillips.

Guiel might steal your wallet for saying that.

Guiel is more valuable than Wilson. They play the same positions. Guiel is not a guaranteed strike out.

..and he can make you a little money on the side.

Egad, I hope Bernie is not in center in the playoffs.

Bernie is an all time great but he no longer can play that position.

he could also beat ryu in a street fight

...and that is why not having Bernie in center is a good thing.

i would venture to guess matsui and damon will never miss the same playoff game/be pulled unless its a blow out

//That's one reason they will probably go with Wilson or Phillips.//
This sentence gave me eerie flashbacks of the 90s pop duo Wilson Phillips...eeek. :)

If it comes down to a righty, I will take Phillips over Wilson any day of the week. Wilson hasnt impressed me in the slightest. But I definitely think Guiel is easily the best overall player out of all of them.

Tampa showed absolutely no respect on Bernie's arm. Other teams will know that also.

Too much of a liability.

Well, at least I got to see about an inning. My wife is making me take her out to dinner tonight. Dang women that don't understand the Yankee obsession.....

Wang seems to have settled down, and Sheff hasn't really been tested. But Sheff looks ok so far.

Poor Bernie. I'd sent my two year old niece running on Bernie's arm.

Awww Bernie :(
OMG GREEEEAAAT PLAY BY JETER THOUGH!!!

I like Phillips and he has heart I think. Wilson has not impressed me at all. he strikes out in so many important situations.

I don't have Gameday up. Now that Cano has 2 hits, I know he is up on Derek. What is the latest on Mauer, Cano and Derek?

i think cano might be some sort of super human, I haven't seen a guy get pure hits like this in a really long time....reminds me of gwynn sort of

Rob make her decide what she wants on the way so there is no delay in the drive through so you can get back home quickly.

Mauer: .345
Cano: .341

Jeter: .337

Tony Gwynn, good thought, Vince.

Yeah, Robbie is terrific.

I argued earlier in the year on the Newsday blog with people demanding he be traded for pitching.

Cano .341
Jeter .338

Mauer .345 <---sheeesh give it a rest kid! :0)

This game is going to slow down once I say this but only about 1 hour and 20 mins in and already through 5 1/2.

thanks. I would not be surprised in the least to see Cano steal it at the end.

My latest argument about Cano has been with people who say he is only the 3rd or 4th best 2b in the MLB. *rolls eyes* With the possible exception of Chase Utley who could possibly be described as a better 2b than Cano?

they are the same people who demanded melky be traded at the deadline....they will suffer when they see melky's ultimate power as well

well u know loretta is fundamental and hits in the worst lineup ever even with god behind him and makes all routine plays routinely so he is obviously better.

TOTALLY KIDDING

That was a ball Bernie would have had a few years ago.

This Tampa outfield looks pretty good with Young, Crawford, and Baldelli.

yeah i think with soriano in left now i would say utley at the moment is the best and then cano...belliard used to be, kent used to be, that guy on the whitesox maybe is almost as good.....id rank cano 2nd

I still don't get why Joe doesn't trust Melky to fill in in center when he gives Damon a day off.

****! Thankfully no one has been dense enough to argue for Loretta but I have heard Brian Roberts, Dan Uggla and--get ready to laugh--Placido Polanco.

......sheffield can certainly scoop better than giambi...giambi now not giambi in oakland.

those guys ar eall good and maybe uggla will end up being better than cano but i doubt it, i mean cano in florida might bat 360, people hate to admit it, but just like yankee players get more media, they also deserve more since they play through all the media both good and bad.....cano plays on a harder stage than everybody else except loretta, but he is better than loretta and more valuable to hsi team and his ceiling is higher and he is younger....roberts is a good player but he has really only had an all star half a season and that was the beginning of last year.

Yeah, I like Iguchi. Vidro isn't bad either, but guys like Kent and Biggio are up in age and of course have been playing other positions. Brian Roberts is a good one, too.

So far what we've seen from Sheff w/his glove has been pretty **** encouraging, if I do say so myself!

im very impressed with shefs eye just like i was with matsui's off injury, esp considering shef hasn't had rehab....u can tell with his timing that he has missed a lot of time though

Cantu isn't bad, either. The thing of course with Roberts is the gruesome injury he had.

Vince, is where you live(d) in New Jersey in north or south Jersey?

bernie always looks like he gallops when he runs

i lived in central jersey alex haha...why do u ask?

YES, AARON!

think guile has proved his point yet?

I would give the edge to Cano over Uggla--while they may be close now, Cano gets to improve under the tutelage of the best hitting coach on the planet, and Uggla doesn't. :)

Roberts is great but I think he has already put up his best numbers.

Guiel makes a case...

isn't one of our bloggers there tonight???

Another inning from Wang...maybe Bruney....

and then the return of MO.

Well I know Mike and Gina know about Wawa, but do they have it in central Jersey?

Holy **** YEAH GUIEL! So busy waxing intellectual about 2nd basemen that I didnt even notice on Gameday!

lol mattingly and ron jackson are pretty freaken even, i thnik mattingly has more to work with and that is the only time i will bring up that excuse cause its true...i agree on roberts though

haha alex, of course we had wawa...wawa is everywhere in nj, esp by beaches......we had two wawa's within 15 minutes of my house

Yeah Cairo!! Now we're getting something going! :D

Hi everybody. Just in time to see by Gameday Guiel homered and we are winning!!!! Happy to find Sheff at 1st base. And impressed with Robbie. He has a real chance to win it. (Sorry DJ)

Hey everyone!
I turn on the game and GUIEL hits a homer! Yay!

Laugh. I just found out the game was being shown on ESPN Asia. Its supposed to be live, but gameday is about a pitch ahead. Sad, sad cable tv for asia.

The Melkman delivers.

Now for CANO to continue the assault on Mauer.

Tino doing a nice job on radio.

Oh that's good to hear. I'm kinda split on whether I want Wawa to expand throughout the northeast or just stay local in the mid-atlantic states.

Sorry for my ignorance, but, what is that "wawa" stuff?

Is Wawa supposed to expand BT? I didn't know that!
They used to have one in North Jersey..Carlstadt, near Giants Stadium, but it turned into a Pantry1 about 5 years ago.

How are you feeling Karl?

i like it locally i think, that way i don't have some dope from massachusetts asking me if i have ever been there and telling me how clutch it is drunk on a friday night at 3am to get a slushy...is wawa in pa too?

It's a chain of convenience stores, Jorge. They do have subs and stuff, too.

I don't know to tell you the truth Gina...Jorge, Wawa is a 24 hour convienent store and some of them also sell gas...the ones that sell gas are called Super Wawa's...it's similar to a 7/11, I don't know if you've heard of 7/11 or not.

Yeah Vince, all over.

Thanks Mike.
BTW, Mauer ia 1 for 3 tonight (.345) So our guys are IN the race

all i know is it started in nj, i had no idea it has already gone to other states....wawa gas also tends to be orgasmically cheap too...like i mean a good 3-5 cents cheaper than any competitor.

Much better, Paul, thanks. Well enough to go to school today, unfortunately. It's been pouring here in MN all day and my school's roof was leaking.

If Mauer stays at 1-3 his average actually goes down from what it was entering today...that's when you know you're a good hitter.

Alex:
Of course I've heard about 7 Eleven. In fact, there is one just 3 blocks from my home. I have no idea how many 7 Elevens are here in Mérida, Yucatán. But I'm sure we're talking about much more than 40

A leadoff hr, but after that, no runs. Wang super. This is what we want to see in 10 days or so.

Where's his # 1 fan on this blog?

He's only at 80 pitches or so. He can go the 8th and turn it over to Mo with no middle man.

Karl you went to NY? You said you went to the final game in both Yankee-Twins series.

Typical Wang after a rough first inning, only 82 pitches after 7. I suspect he might be done for the day.

Ha ha. Funny, Alex. How to really know you are a good hitter (Ted Williams, 1941, .406) Go 2 for 5 and see your average go down. LOL

Wow this is pretty much the fastest game all year.

Wang has definitely become much more economical as this game has progressed.
Altho I thought I read in Pete's blog that Joe had said he wouldnt let any of the starters go longer than 5 innings after we clinched..I guess he changed his mind?

I'm thinking Bruney in the 8th, MO 9th?

Mike:
I'm sure Ashley took the plane to Tampa. She is hiding in Busch Gardens, just to kidnap Wang for the weekend

The captain lays it down and beats it out.

Tino pushes for Derek for MVP!

Oh ok Jorge, I didn't know that 7/11 had spread outside the US but that's good to hear...Wawa is basically 7/11 except a little more modern.

Nice bunt.

omg jorge yucatan? (sorry i can't do the accent thing)....we learned about yucatan baby deliveries in anthropology class.....and legalized prostitution, but not necessarily in yucatan....interesting stuff

That was Jeter's 200th hit of the season...*golf clap*

jeter at third on a bunt...doesn't matter, he doesn't hit 40 hrs

Yes, I went to New York earlier this month for the first time. It was coincidence the Yankees played the Twins then. It was definately one of the most fun experiences ever. The atmosphere in New York is unbelievable.

MVP DJ! (I got to chant that in NY!)

fantastic baserunning from our MVP!!
It's the little things..!!! :)

Prostitution is not legalized here in Yucatán. It is banned (is this the "rite" word?) since an uncle of mine was the Governor. I'm talking about 1970. But, of course, prostitution still exist her, like in the whole world

Lol. btide.. We have 7-11 here in the Philippines too. :P

Nice baserunning by Jeter.

Haha that's pretty crazy m4rk...and for future reference feel free to call me Alex.

WOW!!!!!!!! Andy Cannizaro's face looks a lot like the team logo (according to Gameday)

God I love Tino. He has kept it real so eloquently on ESPN this year in the face of the virus that is John Kruk.
I still wish he'd quit NESPN and move to YES though!

oh well, that was exciting but not very good. Now I see why they don't try squeezes much.

I guess Cannizaro is the new face of the franchise.

Funny, there were very few 7-11s here in Massachusetts but then then bought the dominant chain, Christy's.

The former owner of Christy's is now running as an independent for governor.

LOL Jorge...what a coinkee-dink!

There used to be a 7/11 in the building next to my house before I moved here, but it is a dentist's office now. There are no 7/11s that I know of in Duluth, but I have been to them before.

With Canizzaro up, they saw right through it. First one attempted all year, I think.

Proctor in.

Hi Alex, name's Mark.
Gotta give Cannizaro an A for effort tho.

Wonder why Jeter didn't test Crawford's arm on the fly out.

Who's coming to the hill for the 8th?

State with the highest per capita number of convenience stores: Massachusetts

Who else would you expect.

Paul for some reason that reminded me of this natural fast-food chain that I love that is only in New England.. do you know what I'm talking about by any chance? There are some in MA & ME.

jorge, yeah two seperate things we discussed (my teacher spent a year observing in mexico then wrote books on it) she studied pregnancy in yucatan and the process and cultural aspects of delivering babies and also studied prostitution in the southernmost tip of mexico....she lived in the brothel and everything

Pitch 1 - In play, no out recorded

Tomas Perez pops out to third baseman Nick Green.

Gameday has Proctor in the 8th.
Grrrr why not Bruney?!

KC has tied Det. Twins and white sox losing.

Is it time to play taps for the defending champs? Appears so. I heard Ozzie went off last night again.

most diners in a state in the entire world: New jersey.

natural fast food, Gina?

That is a dichotomy.

Wow, Proctor already got 2 outs before I could type out my sentence complaining that he should be resting. LOL perhaps I spoke too soon!

wow that was EASY!
can we play the D-Rays in the playoffs? please?

I was about to post the same thing Alex...the Game Day disagreement.

Rivera in the 9th?

THAT was a nice inning by Proctor.

Now we check out our main man next inning. The one and only Mariano.

Sorry Vince. Have to ask what does "brothel" mean? And another question, what do you mean by "delivering babies"?

There's a rest stop in north Jeresey on the Garden state Parkway that I've been to countless times...brings back memories.

Well ya know....quasi-natural :)
The lesser of the evils, kind of like the In-N-Out Burger in Cali. Very anti-corporate, pro-quality, that kind of thing. Now I am gonna drive myself crazy trying to remember the name..

Pitcher Change: Ruddy Lugo replaces Scott Proctor.

Well either Gameday is losing it or the Yankees just aquired Ruddy Lugo from Tampa mid-game...haha.

There is some fast food that is not bad here like Au Ban Pain.

Mo's up in the pen
I'll let Vince answer those questions, Jorge.

who is ruddy lugo?!? and why is he replacing scott proctor... haha.

THERE IS A REFRESHING SIGHT! MO WARMING UP

Jersey diners are the best!! Tick Tock Diner in Clifton is my joint :)

mlb.com is losing it entirely ----> Pitcher Change: Ruddy Lugo replaces Scott Proctor.

Gameday says: Pitcher change. Ruddy Lugo replaces Scott Proctor (When did we get Lugo?) LOL

brothel is a house where prostitutes live together and are taken care of by doctors, at least when prostitution is legalized there are doctors there too supplied by the government.....when i say delivering babies i mean that apparently, and again, you would prob know better than me, this is just what we read, apparently in yucatan they use hammocks and deliver the baby when the woman is often times squatting...in addition the husband is in the room to hold the wife and the midwives deliver the baby and give all sorts of massages

What kind of food is it Gina?

Wow--this game is fast. I thought it would only be the 6th. Nice to hear that Mo is warming!

HERE COMES MO!

mlb.com has hired amateur gameday-stat writers now that the Yankees have clinched.

in and out burger is soooooo good so is carls jr but not as good....au bon pain is served at my school, that is also good, though i prefer things like atlanta bread company. Panera dominates nj but i like atlanta bread company more.

looks like gameday's broken

Au Ban Pain...that's a blast from the past, I always used to get the Mocha coffee drink when I was little and my Dad took me and my bro into Philly to work with him.

looks like gameday's broken

Thanks to Google I remembered the name of the place.
O'Naturals, they have them in Acton MA and Portland ME.. organic fast-food..if thats possible lol

http://www.onaturals.com/onat.html

if anybody ever finds themselves in a lower middle class area like hamden connecticut, i highly suggest finding ray and mikes. It makes absolutely amazing sandwiches. I had a giant pastrami sub from there today.

It was really funny to see Joe Torre interviewed in the Division Championship celebration with Mo by him and Joe say "We did it without you" to Mo.

And then, "But no longer."

I laughed out loud.

Re-enter Sandman!

oops. sorry for the double post, something went wrong with the website... proxy error blah blah

HEEEEEERE COMES MO!!!

Gina, I do not know that chain.

The moment Mo come's in I'm listening to Three Little Birds by Bob Marley.

Have to say I mostly eschew fast food as well as most processed food.

Most of what I eat I make.

It's clear now, Vince. But, PLEASE, do not think that's the way women deliver their babies here in Yucatán. Of course it happens the way you're saying, but just in the very little towns. Not in the cities. I swear to you that I was borned in a Hospital, with doctors and nurses helping my mom, and with my father outside smoking an entire box of Marlboro.

fudge.

posada is back out, wow that was scary

Don't worry about the leadoff single. The first two pitches were swings and misses. He broke the bat on the single. A blooper.

Jorge had to go to the dugout. The batter came around on the backswing and got Jorge on the side of the head/

****! Posada got hit by the broken bat.

That is the better way to go Paul. Here in Philly w/o a car there is sometimes no choice but fast food...even though I've read Fast Food Nation and ummm, yuck.

Game Day™

Bottom 10TH B:5 S:1 O:4

Derek Jeter strikes out Mark Feinsand.

oh, of course jorge. lol we weren't judging yucatan or anything and didn't necessarily consider it a bad thing the way they deliver babies, just something different from the US that was a cultural change.....my teahcer seems to prefer the small town yucatan method...she is a strong believer in birth being a "natural process". I was a breech AND a C section so i'm thankful to be born in a hospital

HERE WE GO MO, HERE WE GO!

K. 1 out. Crawford is at 2nd...he went. D Indifference.

I was born in the forest and raised by a pack of wild killer poodles.

Ohh YES is ahead of WCBS...

I think Cashman traded Carl Pavano for Ruddy Lugo.

HBP.

Why does Gameday have to be broken NOW and deprive us of our pic of Mo?!? :{

I was born in the forest and raised by a pack of wild killer poodles.

I do believe you, Paul

Game Day is still on the 8th inning.

lol rivera 2 k.

K!

Mo looks good.

1 more!

Pitch 1 - In play, out(s) recorded

Delmon Young flies out to right fielder Aaron Guiel.

That's in Gameday about 15 minutes ago. It should be a hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh fly ball. But, wait, isn't there a roof at Tropicana Field? at least, that's what I remember
