Bye bye Bordo

Many of you good folks who read this blog loyally have also been readers of Sam Borden's Daily News blog, which has provided another view on the Yankees and the circus that surrounds the ballclub 365 days a year.

Unfortunately, you won't have the chance to hear Sam's take on the Bombers any longer, as he has taken a job with the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville as a general sports columnist.

All_star_party Sam has been one of my closest friends in the industry over the past couple of years, and is now one of my closest friends, period. Traveling around the country can be difficult, especially when you have a family back at home, but it has been a little easier with my good buddy around to dine with, fly with, and share the frustrations of this crazy job. We'd even go out for the occasional beverage (such as in this photo, which shows, Sam, myself and Ian Browne enjoying ourselves at the Stuff Magazine party at the 2004 All-Star Game).

As competitive as this beat is (and trust me, it's probably the most competitive beat in all of sports), it was always nice to know that at the end of the day, I had a couple of people I could go to dinner with and leave the stress of the day behind us. Sam was one of those people, and he will be missed.

That said, I can't wait to see what insights he has on the Jaguars' QB controversy, the University of Florida's BCS future and the 2007 NASCAR season. Whether you care about Florida sports or not, I'd suggest checking his columns out once he starts his new gig in December. I'm sure they'll be entertaining, regardless of the topic.

I'm guessing that, at some point, we'll see Sam back in New York, though who knows when that will be. Best of luck, buddy. You'll do great.

I read Sam's goodbye on his blog...whenever I listened on the radio I always looked forward to the daily news 5th...It's not surprise to me why he was chosen to be the lead beat writer for the newspaper in Florida.

Another Matsuzaka story...

To quote Tom Petty...The Waiting is the Hardest part...

as for Cashman's comments, just a FYI...Giambi full time DH, looking for a righty-hitting 1b??(FYI---1b free agents are Kevin Millar, 35, and Shea Hillebrand, 31, who was born the same day as A-Rod).

Another reason why a righty hitting 1b??? With an OF of Matsui, Damon and Abreu, the upcoming trade of Sheff (looks more and more imminent the more and more Sheff opens his mouth) would leave Alex and Jeter as the only purely righty bats. (Posada and Melky are switch hitters, of course, and Melky is projected as the 4th of). As mentioned on the previous blog, you have to wonder if the possible acquisition of a righty hitting 1b shows a no-confidence vote in Andy Phillips. Phillips will be 30 next April, so he isn't a "prospect".

My suns better beat the 0-3 Dallas mavericks tonight after losing in OTvertime to the spurs last night.Of corse th coach was an idiot and put in the useless amare stoudemire in the starting rotation instead of Kurt Thomas.

Was Lola able to get tix for the Louisville-Rutgers game tonight?

Daily News says Nationals managerial job down to Acta or Pena. If Tony leaves Yanks, who would you want as the new 1b coach? Would O'Neill accept such a job? Candidates anyone??

Good-bye, Sam Borden, thank you for posting on the Yankees and entertaining those of us eternally tuned to Yankees Radio with Daily News 5ths.

I hoped I would turn on the computer and find some happy news, but I expect Seibu to take the whole 4 days just for fun. One of their officials happily tells us he will not announce a decision until they have made one. Thanks.

My orchestra concert went well last night, including the 30-minute memorized show (though I am the bass player and I get a stand, he he). But I'm exhausted and was very spacey today during school, which is not good on the day of a Spanish and AP World test. But I have to play for a school musical the next two weekends then the Christmas concert is in a month. Yay.

Is Gary Sheffield gone yet? Please?

Joe Girardi would make a fine first base coach...

I would not be shocked to see Andy Phillips' role downsized dramatically next year. But I also think it would be stupid to go out and sign a 30-something mediocre first baseman when they already have someone who can put up those numbers. Why waste money when you already have the thing you're looking for?

I was very pleased to read what Cashman just said.
The article says: "Although several teams expressed interest early in the offseason, Cashman reiterated his plan to keep Alex Rodriguez in pinstripes in 2007 and beyond."

"Everybody believes that we're not going to trade him -- and we're not," Cashman said. "In that first week or 10 days, teams said, 'I saw your comments, but if you change your mind, I'm interested.' Who wouldn't be?

"A lot of clubs would certainly have an interest in acquiring Alex Rodriguez, but he's not going anywhere," Cashman continued. "We're going to keep him and we're going to win with him."

I agree with Cash. So, Paul, the "circus" (as you call it) will still be in New York.

And Brian talked about another interesting topic. Here you get it.
General manager Brian Cashman said that the starting rotation would be his primary focus this winter, with a left-handed reliever, backup catcher, utility infielder and possibly a right-handed-hitting first baseman also on the list of needs.

Currently, the Yankees have Randy Johnson, Chien-Ming Wang and Carl Pavano penciled in for three of the five spots in the rotation.

Johnson is recovering from back surgery, while Pavano is in Phoenix, rehabbing his own multitude of injuries.

"We have a huge investment in Carl," Cashman said. "He's one of the five we're going to have to count on. When he's healthy, I have no doubt of what he's capable of doing. I know there are a lot of people out there who doubt that, but I do not."

And once again, I agree with Brian. But I'm sure many of the Yankee family members disagree with him. But it seems Carl Pavano will be in the rotation next season. And, if the two empty spots would be filled with Mussina and Matsuzaka, I would be very happy.

On another note, a very interesting one:
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After confirming on Wednesday night that they placed a bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka, Yankees officials were tight-lipped on Thursday about the posting process for the Japanese pitcher.

The Seibu Lions, Matsuzaka's club in Japan, have four days to accept or reject the bid. The team is reportedly planning to discuss the issue at its weekly meeting on Friday.

"We've confirmed the amount of the [highest] bid, but I cannot say whether we'll accept or not until we make a final decision," Lions president Hidekazu Ota told the Mainichi Daily News on Thursday.

So, according to this reort from our friend Mark Feinsand, it could be a matter of hours. Remember, right now it is about 11:10 in Japan

reort = report. Sorry, folks.
And I meant 11:10, Friday November 10

Hi, All:

I'm taking an informal poll of the top sports movies. Feel free to stop on over for a moment at www.bosoxbanter.mlblogs.com and share your top five.

There are rumors flying about the Rangers winning the bid for Matsuzaka. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

For those who criticize the Boss/The Yanks/Free agency, let's remember who gave A-Rod his contract. Tom Hicks and the Rangers.

Should Matsuzaka go to Texas, will that entice Zito to go there since Ron Washington and Art Howe are now there? Or does the Glavine filing mean that the Mets would push harder for Zito to fill Glavine's shoes should Glavine decide to go back to Atlanta (remember, Pedro is out 1/2 of 2007).

The stove is heating up.

Yes, I read Brian Cashman's comments about ARod, Jorge. I can only hope he means that with the same sincerity that he used last year when he said Bubba Crosby would be the team's starting CF.

Hoping the ARod Travelling Circus™ moves to another town is only wishing the Yankees get better. I am not sure I can wait until after 2010 and his contract expires to win a championship. It will be a miserable 4 more years if we stay the course.

Mike, there was a Dallas newspaper piece today that said the Rangers COULD win the bidding.

Could.

So could anyone.

I think it is Friday night now in Japan, so we may not hear about the bid until next week.

As Vik said earlier, it is amazing the Seibu team has not already decided whether to accept the winning bid.

More likely the eyes of the world, especially the US and Japan are on them and the publicity is thought to help the team in sales and prestige. My guess is they will use every minute of the 4 days decision period to milk whatever publicity they can generate.

That's just it... RUMORS are flying. We may not know for sure until Tuesday. Rumors of Texas...Rumors of a low winning bid....Who knows what is the truth.

One bit of truth...the waiting is excruciating...LOL!

Apparently Seibu has a board of directors meeting today and nothing will be announced until at this meeting. Could be today....could be we wait until Tuesday.

Today is no longer today in Japan. Is Tokoyo 14 hours ahead of EST? That would make it 2:30 AM there. If it is 12 hours it is still during the wee hours. I would not expect any word until Sunday night our time at the earliest.

Pete Abe has a hilarious entry on his blog on the story that Carl Pavano packs heat.

Yup, he carries a gun.

All that not working must be mighty dangerous. Either that or he is going to help out shooting at Kevin Brown's neighbor.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out the time difference. It is 14 hours. So as I write it is 2:35 a.m. Sat. morning in Tokyo.

Oh, she hasn't written in since the end of the season I think, but congrats to Lola's Rutgers...

...and gee grandma, what a nice CLEAN blog we have!

A clean blog is a happy blog.

Buster Olney on ESPN is reporting that the Red Sox had the highest bid between $38-43 million posting fee.

Not sure how something that is secret is known to a reporter.

My guess is this is just a combination of speculation and ESPN Red Sox boosting.

If Gammons said it, I would say it is fact.

Now listening to Red Sox radio, they are all excited.

These are the same people who rail on the Yankees for spending so much each year. Amazing how Red Sox fans are so two-faced. It is so wrong for the Yankees to do it, but if the Red Sox did it, yaay.

That position is as fake as that fake screen name in here that pretends to be an 11 yr old girl in 11th grade who was a Red Sox fan then became a Yankee fan and is now a Red Sox fan. Allegedly.

Not a bad starting 5...Pablebon, Schill, Beckett, Wake, and Matsuzaka (sp)...OK, so who now would you like to have as a FA....Zito?

Well, if the Sox get him, maybe he will turn out to be another Contreras or Irabu.....

Yanks were wise to wait to trade Sheff to see if they win the Matsuzaka derby.

If in fact they do not win him they have valuable chips to trade for pitching: Sheff, ARod, Giambi. A number of teams are desperate for a big bat and can get it through trades.

If the Red Sox do get Matsuzaka that brings their quality pitchers up to a total of one.

The rest of their starters are major question marks or overhyped talent.

Russ, Papelbon was an amazing closer. But was injured. No word how he will do as a starter. I think it is a critical error for the Red Sox to remove the best closer they ever had and make him a starter. So I am glad they made that blunder.

Schilling is at the end of his career. He will likely get lit up a lot this year. Speaking of lit up I think now that people have seen Beckett he may set a major league record for homers given up. Wake is 40 but talented and certainly tough on the Yanks.

If Matsuzaka is a Red Sox player he will be their best pitcher.

Your right Paul. Beckett and RJ were about even last year. Schill is at end of career. I agree w/you on Pablebon, injured as a closer, wondering how 200 plus innings, how his arem would hold up. Only thing about if Sheff and A Rod would be gone, where would power come from the right side. In your opinion Paul, who would you like to get as a FA pitcher?

Interesting that Keith Foulke refused his option with the Red Sox, a few days after the Red Sox declined the team option on him. So he is a free agent.

Hmmmmm...wonder if he would be a viable middle reliever?

There are no top line free agent pitchers out there so that has to come via trade.

I do not see Zito nor Schmidt being worthwhile. I would like Lilly, but he is not a top of the rotation starter.

Randy Johnson is more of a drag than a help to the team I think.

Be interesting to see how this winter plays out. Obviously w/RJ's back and Pavano's whatever and what to do w/Wright, there are alot of question marks for pitching. Keep hearing the Tigers are very interested in Sheff, wonder what they would give up for him.......

In today's times with injuries and schedule changes a team needs 6-7 starters and maybe even as many as 9 pitchers who can start.

Some of those can be minor league pitchers brought up to fill a need but the others would be carried on the team.

Easy to say the Yanks need 5 more major league level starters after Wang. If Mussina is re-signed that is one of the slots.

Trades could fill 3 more slots and free agents another. Resigning Wright could be a safety move or a trading chip. Johnson may or may not return after surgery.

Oh yeah, Pavano. $10 million a season...3 more seasons (2009 is an option year with a buyout).

Within 24 hours Las Vegas will have a betting line on the body part of his most likely disabled with a bullet hole.

"That position is as fake as that fake screen name in here that pretends to be an 11 yr old girl in 11th grade who was a Red Sox fan then became a Yankee fan and is now a Red Sox fan. Allegedly."

LOL. I nearly spat out my new-fangled pop.

I thought I was the only one who wasn't buying that scenario.

LOL, Angel, I never bought it.

Also I confirmed it when an alleged Minnesota Twins fan sniped at us calling us worse than terrorists and I went looking for a Twins blog and found "her" posting as a Twins fan also.

D-Mat to Boston would be our biggest nightmare. Zito in the AL East may not be a good match, and I don't think he would do well in the AL East (Fenway and Camden Yards). Boras wants ace $$ for Zito and he is a 2 at best. If the Yanks don't get D-Mat, the best bet would probably be Sheff to the Tigers for Bonderman (it's been rumored). The problem is, although Leyland loves Sheff, Dombrowski had Sheff before and isn't fond of Sheff's antics.

As Gammons said this morning (and he is a big backer of Matsuzaka's talent) that if Matsuzaka goes to the AL East (really, meaning one of two teams) it changes the balance of power. An established YOUNG (26) year old to go with upcoming youngsters on whichever team gets him.

If the Bosox get Daisuke, how ironic would it be that the thing's last post would have been one cutting him down??

Let's note: the rest of the FA pitching class this year is NOT that strong. There is no one out there that really is an exciting WOW free agent pitcher. A-Rod and Giambi are both going NOWHERE. They both have no-trades and will invoke them. The only person of significance getting traded for help would be Sheff.

By the way, here is the Boston Glove article link about athletes carrying weapons.

http://www.boston.com/sports/other_sports/articles/2006/11/10/many_players_regard_firearm_as_a_necessity/

We will have to see. The flavor of the morning was Texas, now it's Boston. Before the bidding started, everyone was writing Yankees.

Who's to say?

But we hope ESPeeN and Olney are wrong.

Well, still, whoever he goes to, hasn't proven anything in the Majors. Have to wait and see how he will handle the pressure, etc in my opinion.....

Mike if ARod and Giambi are going nowhere, then so are the Yankees. Get used to a rebuilding year.

Hey, now when I made the comment this year the Yankees would never win a championship w/A Rod....you all wanted my head on a platter......you agree w/that statement Paul?

The interesting story is that Keith Foulke decided to leave $3.75 million on the table while leaving the Red Sox.

There is no way he will get that much on the open market.

Interesting how players want to leave the Red Sox.

Russ, I said that long before you or I posted on this blog.

I try not to say it too much since he has many fans on this blog and my opinion is greatly outnumbered. However I still believe it is the case.

In addition he has become such a distraction, that even if he were to play up to expectations it would still impair the team.

If it is true that the redsox bid 38-45M, It wouldn't be beyond them to lowball Matsuzaka during the negotiations. That way they can have Matsuzaka for really cheap (outside of the posting fee which doesn't count against luxury tax). If they cant sign him for cheap, they get their money back and blocked Matsuzaka from potentially going to the yankees.
If they paid 38-45M for posting fee and then sign Matsuzaka to a 5 yr 75M deal, as projected earlier, that would make him a 23-24M/yr pitcher. I'll be happy they got him at that price.

I agree. I remember commenting to Mark, I don't see the Yankees winning a title till after 2010 when A Rod's contract is up. I agree, I think he has become such a distraction. Whoever said above is also correct, A Rod and Giambi at least for 2007 will not be going anywhere...

Sorry, Paul. Just stating what I believe. Look at the list I posted above--not just for the Yanks but throughout--who has no-trade clauses. The contracts Giambi and A-Rod have limit who they could be traded to even if they would forego their blanket no-trade clauses, which I am pretty certain that they would not.

Personally, I don't like contracts over 3 years and I don't like no-trade clauses, but ...

*biting her tongue* :-P

ARod is listed as a no trade clause and Giambi at a full no trade clause.

Despite that players with no trades are traded from time to time.

The Yanks need a #2 starter. One thing I mentioned at our club meeting this week is that I believe in structure. You need a 1-2-3-4-5. Having an ace and four #4 pitchers in the rotation doesn't work. Wang needs a sidekick (or, an ACE needs Wang for a sidekick). Mussina and RJ are not aces or even number twos anymore. I can see Mussina as a 3, RJ as a 4. They need a two, and a two to me is someone you can count on for 15-17 each year (I know RJ had 17 last year, but with an ERA of 5.00, he really wasn't a two; Mussina at 15 wins, 3.51 just snuck in there but at 38 next year, safer to drop Muss to the 3 slot).

Abreu had a no-trade, but the Phils paid him $1.25 mil to waive it to go to the Yanks.

Personally, I think Alex and Giambi are both here for the duration of their contracts, whether one likes it or not.

From Pete's Blog:

Calm down, nothing has happened yet (2) (# 1 was to calm down after this morning's Texas rumors)

I have no clue where Matsuzaka ends up. But I find it hard to believe the Red Sox would bid $45 million. A few points:

1. Boston would not spend money on Johnny Damon. They have a system of determining the value of a player and not spending above that. Investing $90 million in Matsuzaka would be a total abandonment of their values. Frankly, if Boston wants to spend that much, good for them.

2. Buster Olney wrote this in his blog today: "One bit of speculation heard yesterday -- and it was nothing more than speculation -- was that maybe Boston had made an enormous bid, in the range of $45 million."

3. Screamin' A. Smith went on ESPN Radio and tried to make that into a scoop. No confirmation, no sources, no word from Japan. Screamin' A. Smith? Please.

4. Buster's story on ESPN.com says the Red Sox "may have" posted the top bid. Sure, they may have. Anybody "may have."

5. Let's say the Red Sox did bid that much. Why is Seibu taking so long to accept? Japanese reporters believe that the winning bid was far lower than expected and Seibu is deciding whether it is worth letting Matsuzaka go.

I'm headed to Chelsea Piers for Joe Torre's charity event. I'll be back with more later on.

Personally, I love how Pete called him "Screaming" A. Smith! LOL

...and I would have to wonder if the bid was that high why Seibu would wait that long...All reports state that the Seibu franchise really needs the money.

Russ, the difference is that I actually cheered ARod during the season. I want to be wrong and I want to see him do well. Bottom line is I want to see the Yankees win.

I don't hate ARod. There are 2 Yankees I actually do hate. And I was even happy when one of them pitched decently this year and glad he ended up with 17 wins. As for the other one I hate, now that I know he carries a loaded gun...

Remember when you were a kid and you were wondering what was under the Christmas tree??? Whether you got the gift you really wanted???

Welcome back to your childhood.

LOL

I never bought it either, Paul. But then I'm pretty cynical.

I actually asked it what its deal was on another blog and never got a response, except from other posters who'd arrived at the same conclusion as I had, lol.

It is kind of funny to see people named Anonymous freaking out on Pete's blog. One promised suicide if the Yankees fail to get Matsuzaka. Pete is locking up the Samurai swords.

Well, it's a beautiful day, and I think I am going to go for a walk. Coming on here usually happens when I need a break from my job searching (still no luck). I search, get a migraine, and come on here. I'm gonna take a walk to help me think things over (soul-searching is a big part of the job-searching) so I'll catch you all later.

All the best!

Well I would cheer A Rod when he did well. Just seemed to me that countless number of times this year (I am probably way over exagerating) he didn't come through. RJ pitched very average. 5.00ERA..the 17 wins a little misleading as he had a lot of run support. Your right, bottom line is I want the Yankees to win too.

same to you you Yankee. You will get a job soon w/your talent..probably least when your expecting it to happen

Good luck on that search, Mike.

But first a general observation: It often takes 3 months or longer to replace a professional position.

Do not be discouraged if it does not happen so quickly.

Have you considered registering with a headhunter origanization? I have a friend who has had success finding jobs through that method. Essentially that provides the job seeker with an advocate and somewhat of an agent at generally no cost to the job seeker.

As I said earlier, I know we will have a competitive team in 2007, so I am not really worried Matsuzaka (sp) if we get him or not.

See... and with the kinda of gene pool that some of those anon's have displayed Paul, I think Peter should be handing them out - not hiding them, lol.

Think of the favor he'd be doing the world, lol.

Or we could just start refering to all anonymous posters as Hari Kari.. and save time, lol.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/10/sheffield.tigers/index.html Yanks trade Sheff to Tigers.....breaking news on SI.Com.....

We get "highly touted" Humburto Sanchez, a right hander and 2 others..........

He is highly touted? I don't know about him.

Name: Humberto Sanchez
Position: Starting Pitcher

Born: 5/28/1983

Birthplace: Bronx, NY

Height: 6-6

Weight: 230 lbs

Bats/Throws: R/R

MLB Experience: R

Drafted: June, 2001 - Selected by Detroit in the 31st round

Aquired: May 27, 2002 - Signed as a draft-and-follow

Contract: Minor League Deal

Status: Active - On 40-man roster

Strengths

Very young, and learns very well. Has great natural talent for a kid his age. Also has logged in quite a few innings already.

Weakness

Tends to be wild, walks a lot of batters.

Potential

Has great potential within the Seawolves and further on in the system. Very young and has a bright future in his grasp if he keeps the ball under control.

and likes long walks on the beach....

The Tigers were considering dealing Sanchez straigh up for Soriano so he sounds like he's pretty darn good.

Thanks, Angel. He sounds good, but is he ready for the majors yet?

I was excited about the discussion of Sheff for Verlander.

Sanchez was actually born in the Dominican Republic...he is also 6'6" and 230lbs...That's solid.

He was 10-6 with a 2.63 ERA last year between AA and AAA.

129 K's in 123 IP, 47 BB...like to see less walks but those are some impressive numbers.

From AP story:

"The 23-year-old Sanchez was a combined 10-6 with a 2.53 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 123 innings with Triple-A Toledo and Double-A Erie this year. Whelan, 22, was 4-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 27 saves for Class A Lakeland. Claggett, 22, was 7-2 with an 0.91 ERA and 14 saves for Class A West Michigan."

They all sound good so far, but I was kind of hoping for a proven pitcher.

As a Toledo Mud Hen (love that team name) he was 5-3, 3.86 ERA.

My guess is Detroit will use Sheff as a DH a lot.

The Yankees are probably just stockpiling young pitchers that they can bring in "after 2010 when A-Rod's contract is up" and they have a chance to win. No sense wasting any young talent till then. In fact, no sense even playing. Let's just cancel all games until A-Rod is gone since we obviously won't win anyway.

*removes tongue from cheek and sticks it out at Paul and Russ ;p

Wang, Hughes, Clippard and Sanchez...get used to those four names.

If Sanchez is good in Spring training he might land a spot in the rotation.

Andy, remember when Tom stuck his tongue out at Jerry's friend, Spike, the big bull dog?

Usually his head would be squeezed in a vise, or similar instrument.

Hey all...

I have to admit..I was kinda hoping for a guy like bonderman in the sheff deal. But, this may even turn out better. Yeah, he may not be proven..but, that doesnt mean he can't turn into a great pitcher, maybe even better then bonderman.

I like the fact that we are really stocking our farm with good young arms. 8 of our top 10 prospects are pitchers and add this guy to the list. I'm also looking forward to seeing those other young guys develop as well. They are still very low level prospects, but their numbers look good so far...so I'm looking forward to seeing them develop.

-Ben

It has been like a half hour since the last Yankee trade. Anything new happening?

So, you're saying you have a big buddy named Spike that's into implements of pain?

And wears a collar?

Leash?

Okay, that's far enough down that road. Let's go in a new direction Tom-Tom.

LOL Andy.

See Tom & Jerry cartoon link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_and_Jerry_(MGM)

Look under Recurring Characters.

That's good stuff, Paul. I still see T&J occasionally because my 9-year-old son prefers them to modern cartoons. Good taste is genetic.

4 dead in argument over Oklahoma fence

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061110/ap_on_re_us/oklahoma_shootings

Where was Kevin Brown during all this?

Tom & Jerry was a superior cartoon, on a par with the Warner Bros. toons.

I used to watch the roadrunner and looney toons ocasionally but I wasn't a huge fan of WB cartoons.

Road Runner and Looney Toons are the Warner Bros cartoons.

Bugs

Daffy

Porky

Wyle E. Coyote

Road Runner

Foghoorn Leghoorn

Pepe LePew

Sylvester

Tweety

Roadrunner was amazing. It's unbelievable how many different ways the writers could find for Wile E. to destroy himself, getting people to watch essentially the same thing over and over for years.

I loved Speed Racer....car #5.........

Bugs Bunnny is probably the greatest cartoon character of all time.

Andy, that is only because he did not purchase the proper combination of Acme™ products.

Yeah Paul haha that's what I meant I watched those two shows but I generally didn't like the rest of WB shows.

Bugs is my all time favorite.

But my favorite HannaBarbera toon is Secret Squirrel (with Morocco Mole).

Paul, insinuating that Foulke is one of many players who want to leave the Red Sox is off base. Obviously, if you look at free agent signings in recent years, Boston is one of the top destinations along with the Yankees, Mets, White Sox and Braves among others. Personally, I don't think this hurts the Sox. They paid $7.5 million to Foulke last season. This frees up more money to sign or trade for a set-up man and a closer.

Regarding Matsuzaka, I can see Vik's suggestion that the Sox bid an enormously high amount to keep him away from the Yankees. They might have bid something outrageous to win the bid, and then they will not sign him, making him a free agent in 2008. Of course, since they have Schilling and Clement coming off the books at the end of 2007 ($21 million a year in salary), they might have decided to open their wallet right now to get Matsuzaka. It's definitely an interesting situation. It would be amazing if Texas did indeed submit the highest bid. Of course, the Rangers will need a lot more than him to field a strong rotation.

Actually the best cartoons were the Banana Splits...and Squidly Didly and the Arabian Night.....they were funny...w/Snorkel....and the gang

Thats BS that Arod didnt win the 3B silver slugger...Crede...give me a break

See what happens when I go for a walk???

Looking at that list of top prospects from the list Paul gave last week, Sanchez was ranked #35 out of the top 100, and was the #2 ranked pitcher in the Tigers' system (Andrew Miller #1). Going into 2006, Street and Smith had him at #5 prospect in the Tiger system, #3 pitcher (behind Verlander and Zumaya)...

Missed most of the 2005 season with a groin injury, but features a power sinker that induces groundball out and strikeouts (9.1 average/9 IP in 2005). Had 5.57 ERA in AA in 2005, 3-5, 5.57 in 64 2/3 innings.

Healthy this year, I see you have his numbers. 10-6, 2.63 between AA/AAA with 129 K in 123 innings. Turns 24 next May.

The Banana Splits were not a cartoon---live action.

Fleagle, Snorky, Bingo, and Drooper were the Banana Splits.

The show had some cartoons and a live action seriel called "Danger Island."

I forget the year (1894???) but it was the 1890s.

Anyway, that is how far back you have to go to find the last DP combo to each hit over .340.

...before this year, of course.

That is right Paul...you brought back some good memories for me...used to watch the Banana Splits everyday after kindergarten....loved Danger Island...."one banana, two banana, three bananas more...."

The Detroit broadcasters were very high on Humberto Sanchez. One of them suggested that it might be a better idea to bring up Sanchez even before Andy Miller because Miller was only one year removed from college and could use some time in the minors. Which tells me Sanchez has to be good.
Regardless, good job by Cashman. Freed 13M from an overloaded spot (RF) and brought in young pitching. If atleast one of the three pans out (which I think will happen), great. Otherwise, we can pretend like we did not pick up Sheff's option. And be happy that we had prevented Sheff from signing with Sox or Angels.

I was a cartoon junkie. My level of cartoon trivia is crazy.

HannaBarbera had so many cartoons.

When I was a kid each night had a cartoon show on in prime time.

Flintstones

Jetsons

Yogi Bear & Friends

Quick Draw McGraw Show

Huckleberry Hound Show

Top Cat

Johnny Quest

I loved Ricochet Rabbit and Deputy Droopalong

Moment of silence.....actor Jack Palance has died....was "Curly" on "City Slickers" movies w/Billy Crystal....he was 87

One of my posts vanished....

There were 2 other cartoons in the Yogi, Quick Draw, and Huckleberry shows that often rotated.

They included

Yakky Doodle

Pixie & Dixie

Mushmouse and Punkin Puss

Super Snooper

Hokey Wolf

Augie Doggie & Doggy Daddy

Snagglepuss

Jack Palance was a character. Did 1-arm pushups and was a riot with Billy Crystal on the Tonight Show with Carson.

Lunette and Molly on The Big Comfy Couch.......

Also did one armed push ups the night he won an Oscar at the Academy Awards..he was scary looking dude....loved his voice.........

Peter Potamus and Soso was another favorite.

I think he started on the Wally Gator or Magilla Gorilla Show and then got his own show.

Not sure what the Big Comfy Couch is....

sounds like torture...

NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Big Comfy Couch was on few years ago, kids watched it...lady (Lunette) dressed like a clown w/her "dolly" and sat on the "comfy couch" telling stories......she was cutie behind that big red nose

Wow...talk about MIA. does anyone remember me? lol.

Anywhoo, how bout them Scarlet Knights :-D *still celebrating*

Jack Palance was from the coal regions of PA...I think Nusquehoning, about an hour from me. A grandma was from up there...

Hey, I've been writing about you on this blog, Lola...I was wondering if you were at the game. Check this thread for my comments and congrats on the big win.

:::throws a frozen turkey at Lola to see if she catches it and bakes it for all of us for dinner::::

Congrats, Lola. I hope Ohio State and Michigan both lose and we get to see Rutgers vs. Boise State for the title.

Hey Mike, i didnt make it to the game, but best believe i watched every single second of it cheering as loudly as i can with my red face paint and 1 one game finger thingie :-D It was a great game. I still cant believe this is happening to us. Its crazy...i am not going to look too much in the past though, i'll just enjoy it. I am decked out in full Rutgers gear to work today, you should see how many people in the streets were stopping to congratulate me...ha ha, like as if i am Greg Schiano...great feeling :-D

the whole BCS debate is making my head hurt! I wish NCAA D-1 football had a regular playoff like every other normal sport, lol...then this whole crisis would be so easy!

Hate to say this, but Ohio State would be Rutgers by about 30 LOL...but, good win for them. No one will be the Buckeyes this year.....Michigan will lose by at least 14...my prediction

Lola! Whats crackin?

Hey, after being undefeated in 1968, 1969, 1973 and 1994 and coming in 2nd, 2nd, 5th and 2nd, don't you think this PSU alum would have wanted a playoff? LOL

Win or lose it on the field...

Course I like pro football better......

nothing much alex! work has got me flying all over the country, lol...at the same time i'm killing myself taking 15 credits trying to finish this masters. thats why i've been so MIA!
How are things with u? whats up! =]

Things are pretty good schools starting to get taxing but oh well still hangin in there haha.

Mike, at least u've seen PSU do well...me, when i was at RU, we were like the butt of all jokes...still somehow, i went to games, cause i am a crazy sports fanatic like that and i guess i had hope they'd turn it around. We hadnt been "good" since 1976, 7 yrs before i was born. I heard stories, but i never in my lifetime witnessed it.
Now we are freaking 9-0. Unbelievable. Its still all pretty crazy to me, i cant stop skipping around :-D.

In a way, i'm actually kind of sad i graduated last year, LOL...i'd love to still be a student with this happening. But i still live in NB, so its all good =]

Paul, the froezen turkey you threw at me hit me in the head! OUCH! :-D

I know nothing about college sports. The college I went to was notoriously bad in football.

Well my area high school football team is now 0-30 the past three seasons.......

Believe me, Lola, I know. The first game I saw as a student at PSU was 1979 vs. Rutgers, and PSU won 54-0 or something like that.

Bruce Clark put a hit on the Rutgers QB in that game that I can still feel (I was sitting not too far away from that hit, and believe you me, I felt it!)

My high school football team made national news for hazing younger players. That was a few years ago. It was a community disgrace.

When I was a senior, PSU won the national championship, so I know about that. Partied for a good month. LOL

They treat you like men," Sheffield said. "To reunite with them after 10 years is a blessing."

Another nice quote from our favorite former player...so long Sheff.......

So now Sheff will be badmouthing the Yankees and the fans?

It must be depressing to earn $13 million a year and have the fans chant MVP when you come up to bat. Poor mistreated Sheff.

i am kinda sad to see sheff go :-(...he was one of my favs, but i really cant get down with this badmouthing of the yanks.***** sheff, zip it up!

Watching Sportscenter...waiting for Gammons or someone to see what their analysis is...

Someone asked me a few days ago (I can't remember if I put it on the blog) where I thought Sheff would go. I said Astros or Tigers because they had the pitching prospects.

To me it looks like a steal for the Yanks...Sanchez is a top tier prospect.

I'm more than happy to be reunited with guys that I'm familiar with," Sheffield said.

This quote was in the same article off MSN's site by Sheff.....

Getting rid of Sheff is a big move. Getting something of value for him is a bonus.

He has been awful in the playoffs and always blames others like blaming Bubba when he ran into him.

alright guys, i gotta run and go home now...nice to chat with u all again, i'll try not to be so MIA, we have a lot of catching up to do! =]

Uh oh...Olney on...

Onley doesn't know sh.it he's just trying to pump up the Red Sox.

Olney calls all 3 prospects B+ level.

Olney also talks D-Mat. Gives 3 reasons ... repeats what he wrote earlier.

I would love to see him and ESPN proved wrong on Matsuzaka...

Hey guys! How is everyone? Exhausted here, my new job is killing me and I haven't even started giving my own tours yet. But the $$$ is keeping me going and besides I'm learning a lot of interesting stuff..did you guys know ice cream was first developed in Philly by a guy named Bassett...and the first flavor he created was yellow tomato? lol...yuuuum!

Anyway, onto the good stuff...RAISE THE ROOF!!! SHEFF IS NO LONGER A YANKEE!!! God I hope Farnsy or BAMF beanballs him next year...or actually, why wait? Let's just send one of them after the effer now! :D I could not BELIEVE that **** he talked about Bobby..yeah, you're right Sheff, he ain't you....he's better! Ugh.

Despite my relief to be rid of him though, I am not too too thrilled about this trade. I expected we would get a player who would be able to help us next year. (haven't read too much about Sanchez yet, maybe he could be that guy, if he does get called up and pitch well in '07, I will be much happier about this.) But as of now not so much. I'm especially confused about why they wouldn't have tried to acquire Vance Wilson seeing how pressing our need for a backup C is!

Also, I must admit that when I heard of this trade, my immediate reaction was paranoia that they went and got Sanchez because they don't plan to re-sign Mussina. It doesn't help matters that I thought a deal was supposed to be announced this week and it wasn't..plus Cash seems more reluctant to discuss the progress than he was last week. Please someone tell me I'm crazy and that my paranoia in this regard is only due to a lethal combo of incoherent exhaustion and extreme MM fandom!

I see on the Matsuzaka blog that another pitcher is to be posted, Kei Igawa of Hanshin. Mike Plugh of the blog says he could be a 2 or 3, but I think his 85-60 (Matsuzaka was 108-60) translates more into a 4 or 5. Igawa will be 28 next summer.

Gina, is Geno's on your tour or is the other place on your tour???

Muss should be close to a done deal. I'd expect it to be by Thanksgiving. The GMs have a meeting next week. More deals and the Muss signing could come then.

I saw the trailer for the new Spiderman 3 coming out May 4. it looks dark and scary but good.

Mike, I made a few posts with some links about Isawa, a LHP a day or so ago.

Gina, I saw your concerns about the Sheff trade on Pete's blog, and I said above just getting rid of him is a good move, and these may be terrific future pitchers.

No clue on where the Mussina negotiations stand.

The strange thing is, is that none of his reasons make logical sense... and no one bothered to poke any holes in his reasons, lol

Gee, I wonder why?

Kei Igawa, rather.

I saw that too... they're going down the Black Spiderman road.. should be interesting.

I guess any doubts about our system are probably wiped away by now. Goodbye Shef, can't say I'll miss you or your attitude. Hello all, i've been working 5 days a week and going to classes, i have five papers due next week so i've been a little busy. If the sox get the bid for Matsuzaka I will have a lot to say about them and their fans, the "we're the 2nd highest payroll but we believe we are small market and taken advantage of by the boss" redsox nation.

Well, take care ya'll....leaving for tonight...nice talking to all of you, pretty interesting day...well see what the weekend brings (hopefully Dallas can be Arizona...but then they play Indy UGH)...anyway, have a great night!!!!

*beat

Not too busy to post on the Red Sox blog, Vince, eh?

I have had Red Sox sports radio on for a few hours and the hosts and the fans are all excited on 2 levels:

2. getting a top new pitcher and opening the revenue stream to the Red Sox of the Japanese market, and most importantly

1. blocking the Yankees from getting him.

Funny how every Red Sox fan is so obsessed with every move in terms of the Yankees.

Red Sox are NOT a small market team, just a low self image team.

Mike, unfortunately neither Geno's nor Pat's (that's the one across the st. from Geno's) are in my tour b/c we don't go any farther south than South St. (I wish we did, I'd love to talk about the stadiums!) I just send them to the cheesesteak stand at the Reading Terminal Market if they want one.

I hope you are correct about Moose..that would definitely be something to give thanks for :)

I know paul, I just said they act like they are. I post on the sox blog at work when it is slow, I would post here but conversation was fairly dead the last few days, but conversation is back thanks to shef being traded and now here I am. That site is also for Yankee and redsox fans, not just sox fans.

Yes, went back and checked it out, Paul. Thanks. I think that lefty is probably a 4 or 5...who knows.

Agree with you on the "yankeephobia" too.

Gina, were you able to catch the Red Hot Chili Peppers concerts on the 23 and 24 of october?

Definitely true about sox fans and media obsessing on Yankee moves, anything to make them a more better and emotion over logic driven fan base.

Red Sox are NOT a small market team, just a low self image team.

I think they need some Stuart Smalley affirmations! 'I'm good enough, I'm smart enough'..heh.

I really hope that my initial dissatisfaction with the Sheff deal was an overreaction. I will say one thing, my outlook did brighten quite a bit when it sunk in that this means..HE'S GONE!!

ew, why did I say more better, eliminate the "better and", that is one of my biggest pet peeves

I think thats bizarre too, Paul.

Im surprised the fans haven't noticed that the Red Sox have more holes than a pitcher like Matsuzaka can compensate for. Its all fine, as long as its screwing over the yankees, lol.

Unfortunately I didn't go to either of the RHCP shows Alex. I am saving my pennies for Smashing Pumpkins the return, lol. Would have loved to have seen John Fruiscante and Flea live though. Did you go?

Grr I shouldn't have had burger king, now my stomach is in no mood to be consumed with bud light until I make poor decisions....Oh well I have 2 more hours....speaking of consumption and alcohol, where are alex and andrew at?

like feet

haha Feet are repulsive and unnecessary, not a pet peeve just an extreme hatred.

geez, Vince. Speak English!

Yeah I went on the 24th...it was absolutley incredible...everything was amazing, except for the opening band...they ******.

How's your list coming Vince? I figured you'd be busy at school, so I thought I'd give you guys a little help.

Sorry I'm practicing my best incoherent act for later.

Paul, it is only natural to follow what your main rival is doing. Believe me, Yankees fans follow what the Sox do as well. Don't tell me they don't. This is thre greatest rivalry in sports for a reasono - we each care about what the other team does.

NYYAngel, the Sox rotation is solid, even without Matsuzaka. And there are several prospects who will be major league ready by 2008. It's the bullpen that needs work - a set-up man and a closer. It's about time that Henry opened his wallet. He spent $65 million to buy a NASCAR team, so he and Tom Werner can definitely afford to bring in a big bat to hit 5th behind Ortiz and Manny, a top-name starting pitcher (especially since Schilling and Clement's $21 million a year in salary go away after 2007) and a set-up man and closer.

As for the Yankees, I imagine you are glad to be rid of Sheffield. I'm just glad he is not in Boston.

Yes Mike, that was a TON of help. We have a catcher, backup catcher, third baseman, shortstop, first baseman, dh, the entire outfield, outfield subs, four starters and three relievers and all of the coaches so not that much more. The good news is the sox team is also nearly complete so both should be ready for sunday.

Alex, that sounds like the opening band for when I saw U2 last May...U2 was awesome, but this Kings of Leon (I think that was the name)...was NOT my kind of music at all. They were horrible.

I'm glad to get someone exciting in return, dump one of the bigger salaries, dump another DH or hurt the defense player and one less player who is not reliable.

Now that baseball is over I have been catching up on movies. I got to see two movies this week and liked them both.

The first was Talladega Nights which was hysterical. It was funny on so many levels. Will Ferrell was brilliant; his character reminded me very much of someone else he has played in the political arena.

The other one I saw was last night, Invincible with Mark Wahlberg in a true story of a South Philly walkup who made the Eagles. This was a terrific sports movie.

The comments section on Pete's blog is in a frenzy, lol. And it wasn't even anything to do with Arod! Some posters have been downright suicidal, lol.

I think we need to have a word with the Yankee FO. It was uncalled of them to trade Sheff while Pete was at Joe Torre's charity function and unable to fill us in with more details, lol.

I loved invincible, mark wahlberg did an excellent job. Everybody loves an inspirational, non fiction sports story.

BTW, I was accepted into the journalism for the web class for next semester so blogging will actually be part of my assignments hahahaa.

Jeff, sure, Yankee fans follow the Sox. I do. But it is easier for me living in Boston.

However Yankee fans want to see moves made to better the Yankees, not to deter the Red Sox. It is a different perspective entirely.

Sox Fans in general are obsessed with the Yankees from your ridiculous proclamations that the Yankees are bad for baseball while at the same time the Yankees draw more fans than any team in baseball as a VISITING team. The Yankees add revenue to every club they visit, even the greedy mercenary Red Sox team.

I dont really care what the Red Sox are doing. I know that won't be believed, but its true.

Was that name that Jeff person?

Ugh, I should have known.

I'm shutting up right now, I wouldn't have answered had i known.

Oh and the Red Sox rotation is full of question marks. I do not see a single dependable starter there except maybe Wakefuled since you know what you will get with him. The others are unknown.

lol Angel you used to be so angelic, are the new bloggers getting to you?

Its like I can't even make comments on a blog about the team I follwo without some Red Sox fan swooping in to correct me on what is MY opinion.

UGH!! .. just UGH!!

I think the Red Sox should sign Matt Clement to a 3 yr extention.

LOL Vince.. do I sound bitchy? Ack!

Sheesh, I'd better unplug my keyboard, before someone comes on this blog trying to own me here too. *smirks*

I don't mind it Angel, as long as Red Sox bloggers understand the severe limits of their team. I may need to point it out lest they forget.

That's cool Alex! Did they play lots of the older stuff? (I hate when I go and see a band and 80% of what they play is off the newest album, so no one knows the words to sing along!)

LOL, Angel, I did not get a single bid for you nor Swo.

lol. We'll agree to disagree on that one. Believe me, if you're a true fan, it's natural to not want to see you're rival get better (by acquiring a key player, etc.). So it doesn't make sense to say you don't care what your rival is doing. I go to a lot of Red Sox games on the road, and the Sox draw big away from Fenway as well. It's obvious the Yankees add revenue to every team. They have a lot of resources other teams don't by playing in the largest media market nationwide. That is not a complaint, just fact. Just like most baseball fans who are not Yankees fans, I don't care for Steinbrenner, but I do give him credit for spending the money to try to field a World Series contender. In recent years, the Yankees have not had the chemistry of their teams from the late 90s. That, in my opinion, is the reason they have not won the big one. Of course, a lot has changed in baseball in recent years. Revenue sharing has helped smaller market teams, and now it is less likely for a dynasty to appear. That is why 2005 didn't sting as much for me since the Sox won it all in 2004. Now, 2006 was very disappointing. The bottom line is, you need to have a decent farm system to build an ongoing winner in today's game. That way, you can fill some holes in-house, and have more money to bring in players to fill other positions.

You have a Red Sox team also? Here is who Rob Neyer had as his all Bosox team in 2003...From Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Lineups

You are going specific single season...

DH Rice 1977 (not the MVP 1978 year where Rice mostly was in LF)....now, you'd have to go 2006 Ortiz there instead...

C Fisk 1972

1b Foxx 1938 (MVP)

2b Doerr 1938

SS Nomar 2000

3b Boggs 1987

LF Williams 1941

CF Speaker 1912 (Chalmers award...forerunner of MVP)

RF Williams 1939 (his rookie year)...you'll have to find someone else to take Ted off since you don't want him twice. Who to consider? You have Tony Conigliaro and Dwight Evans, but Jackie Jensen's 1958 MVP year (.286-35-122) has to be up there.

Starter---Smoky Joe Wood went 34-5 in 1912.

Reliever...Neyer went with Ellis Kinder in 1953...

I'll let you look up the stats, numbers...LOL....

Seriously, I have no problem with Red Sox fans voicing opinions here except for that one Mike calls "the thing" with its 3297490234707 screen names.

We'll resign Clement, and you can resign Pavano.

BTW....Poor Yaz....an MVP and TC in 1967 but with the numbers Ted had....

I know Paul, and you're right. I dont want discourse with Red Sox fans though - thats why I post here and don't go to their blogs (I have posted once on a Red Sox blog), lol. Especially when they insist on forcing their opinions on me, because I have the nerve to state mine here. It WOULD be justified if I was posting that over there.

Oh, and co-sign with what most of you guys said: unless theyre facing the Yanks, I could really care less about the Red Sox. Yeah, I hear news about them and I'll listen when I hear it, but it is only what I hear on ESPN or through talking baseball w/my one friend who is a Sox fan. But I don't SEEK OUT news about the Sox and I think it is the same with most Yankee fans. That is the difference with most Sox fans--they seek out news about us. It gives them as much or more pleasure to see us fail as it does to see their own team succeed. And I find that pathetic.

NYY Angel, you need thicker skin if you are offended by me. I shudder to think what you think of Fagan.

I know, Paul!! What is up with that? And I told Swo, we should stick with you as our agent because you were bound to be good with money, LOL.

Mike, a lot of those players were before my time, but I cannot imagine a RF better than Dwight Evans.

Anyway, it will be a typical off season, with the BoSox and Yankees trying to put themselves in the best position in the AL East. The only team that does not look to be competitive in 2007 is the Orioles. I think the Devil Rays can jump past them.

Thicker skin? Are you trying to bait me?

Fagan? I'll ignore you.. like I do Fagan. I did not realize it was you, but I do now.

I like Evans for RF on that list. Tony C. had a great year, but obviously his career was derailed by the beaning.

Devil Rays have an outstanding outfield, a decent infield, but awful pitching that can't beat anyone but Randy Johnson and the entire Red Sox.

Not trying to bait you at all. All I do here is post my opinions and talk baseball with Yankees fans, just like they do on my blog (BoSox Banter), where the talk is limited to baseball and sports, and does not include personal attacks. I've never been uncivilized on a blog, except when I have stood up to Fagan for comments he made about me and others, including some of the Yankees fans on this blog.

I just transitioned from hate to say I told you so by the hives to you sexy thing by hot chocolate, somebody congratulate me on so much awesomeness right now.

Agreed Paul. Just giving Vince some options for his list. I respected the heck out of Evans. Going WAY back, Harry Hooper was a very good RF.

CF you had to go with "Spoke"....but Lynn and Dominic Dimaggio would be considered on his list also. Dommy was excellent. Still alive, too. He became a very successful businessman after retirement...carpeting in automobiles, I believe.

It was a good mix, Gina...here's a list of most of the songs they played:
Can't Stop

Dani California

Scar Tissue

Charlie

Parallel Universe

21st Century

Hump de Bump

Don't forget Me

Snow

Fortune Faded

Readymade

Tell Me Baby

Right on Time

Blood Sugar Sex Magik

Californication

By the Way

Then for the encore they played Under the Bridge and Give it Away...The first three are in order but the rest is just from memory a bit. I emailed Matt Cord from WMMR to try and get the full playlist but he never got back to me.

I should make 2 lists:

1. All time Red Sox greats

2. All time Red Sox favorite players when playing the Yankees.

For example:

Calvin Schiraldi

Kazmir definitely has the Sox number, but noone else does. The Sox did struggle with the Rays at Tampa this past year for some reason. I live in Orlando, and I go to all the Sox games in Tampa. Maybe I jinxed them. Of course, I was at the three-game series in Atlanta when the Sox swept the Braves. I'm sure the Sox will get revenge on the Rays and Royals in 2007. It's embarrassing to lose to teams like that, but for every team there is another team that gives problems.

Stupid Angels....angels plural, that is.

You gotta kind of feel bad for the Devil Rays, by the time the rest of the team catches up to the OF, Crawford and Baldelli will be retired and they'll have problem areas all over again!

And speaking of the AL East in general, has anyone heard what the Jays are up to or may be up to later? Their ownership is loosening the pursestrings even more for next season, so ya gotta figure they must want to get at least one player that we may want.

oh and Heathcliffe Slocumb

and from you sexy thing to runaround sue, come on, seriously I need some dap

I heard where the Cardinals were close to resigning Edmonds. This surprises me because of his age and health. Also surprised to see Glavine not pick up his option.

Yanks struggled with the Angels and A's this season. No one else in the American League.

Awww Alex they didnt play "S.uck My Kiss"? I loooove that song, by far my favorite of theirs. That sounds like a great setlist though! Flea must have done lots of great solos too :D I so need to go to a concert, it's been forever!

a24, I think the Devil Rays will be formidable against the Sox and Yankees next season. Not a contender, but more competitive and a threat to have their first .500 season. They have some great young talent, and they will likely deal Crawford for some pitching this winter. They are no longer a joke. Not a great team, but no longer a joke. They now have an owner who is willing to spend more money.

Glavine may go back to Atlanta.

Mets will have no veteran pitching staff.

I think the Yanks should trade them Pavano, Wright, and Johnson for something. Maybe David Wright and that pitcher who was in a car accident.

They didn't do Higher Ground???

Hey, I dig Dion Dimucci! Belmont Ave. in the Bronx, man!

Tough to go against an MVP year...Jensen will be tough competition. Great athlete...a super football player in college. Started with Yanks along with Mantle. His fear of flying ended his career early.

As for Jays...will be hard holding on to Vernon Wells...

I read where Mulder is considering the Mets so he can be reunited with Rick Peterson, his pitching coach in Oakland.

I freaken love vernon

I dont think the mets are gunna trade David Wright for anything.

Well, that is true. You dont behave like Fagan. Even if for some reason you get up my nose, not being like him does go a long way.

Ahhh speaking of stupid...

...to carress me down by sublime, ok seriously, somebody recognize my dominating and eclectic musical *************** my kiss is an awesome song, I have that along with nine other RHCP songs

Jeff the Sox were 9-10 against the Devil Rays. That was a lot more than Kazmir.

Kazmir was 3-1 against the Sox. Not bad. He will make a good Yankee soon.

I dunno RS Nation..I do agree that the D-Rays are on the upswing, but I don't know about formidable yet. But I didn't know they planned to trade Crawford, so I guess depending on what they get for him they could become a good deal tougher.
But you're right that they and the Orioles are in the process of switching places as far as which one is the joke of the division. I guess that Angelos has not/will not do(ne) much to address fan and media dissatisfaction huh?

I am able to tolerate differences of opinion between myself and people like btide, paul, vince and vik, who I am debated with several times. I don't mind differences of opinion at all as long as it doesn't get person. After all, the reason we are all on baseball blogs - and the reason I have a blog myself - is because we love baseball and our respective teams, and we have strong opinions about them.

lol calm down, Jeff says some misguided things about the Yankees like most of us do about the redsox, but I can vouch for him to say he doesn't attack anybody or their credibility, provided they are sane.

haha you are ripping tonight.

Wow...ESPN Classics is already replaying last nights Louisville/Rutgers game.

No idea what Vince is talking about...he may aleady be comatose...

Nah they didnt to ***** my kiss or higher ground but John the guitarist and Flea did a Fleetwood Mac song by themselves while Anthony and Chad were catchin a break. It was pretty cool.

hahah I'm talking about the songs I have been playing while sitting here. You have to follow the songs, it's an amazing ride Paul. And no, I won't be drunk for another 2.5 hours.

Yeah, 2006 the Sox struggled against the D-Rays, mostly at the Trop. Like I said, I know this first hand since I was there. The Sox have no answer for Kazmir, but many teams don't. He's one of the best left-handers in baseball. The Sox imploded several times against the D-Rays. Papelbon even blew a save against them. But that was 2006. I seriously doubt if 2007 will be a struggle with them, although I do think the D-Rays will be more competitive.

Drunk? I thought you were under 21, Vince. And we all know that college students at Quinnipiac do not consume alcholic beverage illegally.

That was one of the more encouraging things about the Yankees this year, they beat the bad teams like they rightfully should, that was what the great teams used to do...2005 they struggled against the d rays and some other ****...I guess last year they kind of struggled vs the orioles but most of the losses were games that didn't matter.

lol 21 by distance from birth only. Yes, ESP quinnipiac, we do not drink....ever and I don't have a 30 in my fridge

I love, love, love Vernon Wells also. He's an excellent, solid, complete 5-tool player....in addition to being really hot too, haha :D(sorry guys, but I can't not notice these things!)

Mike, I heard Wells may want to go to Texas. Sheesh if they do get Matsuzaka and Wells too, between that and the first year w/o Showalter thing, they might actually be scary next season. I hope the Jays hold onto Vernon until 5 minutes after Damon's contract expires :)

LOL I know he's not like Fagan, Vince. I was in my own way giving him credit for that, lol. The fact that he's not like him, does actually go a long way with me - he'd just managed to get up my nose so far, but lots of people do, lol - so he's in good company.

I mean really, you people are very lucky that I like all of you LOL.

Im just kidding. ;-)

Right Jeff, Sox were 3-7 at the Trop.

You need to attend more Sox games.

Yeah, you're right. To be a World Series contender - or a championship contender in any major professional sport - you have to beat the teams you are better than, and play competitive with teams who are similar in talent.

"carress me down by sublime..."

Okay now that you mentioned a song that my old and out-of-touch self has actually heard of, LOL, I will give you props for good musical taste!

'Me gusta reggae Me gusta punk rock'...that song rules!

I'm a sox killer. 1-14 when I see them...all against the Yankees, I take great pride in seeing them lose at fenway with a girl who claimed to see the Sox only lose once in the same amount of games vs the Yankees. My universe was stronger.

Besides, he might eventually grow on me.. you know instead of being poison oak or venus fly trap to me, I'll see him more like a peace lily or gerbera daisy. lol

haha I went from sublime to fight for your right to sabotage and now to dammit by blink 182 so I'm making my way into my own generation haha

I remember that game this year where Vernon hit a walk off against Mariano....

Ouch...

Hearing Buck may get some job with Cleveland...

hahaha Angel. You're wild, it is evident you are married to a Jersey native. It has left you slightly insane and irritable

John or Joe?

Hey, I don't know RHCP...but I know they did the great cover of a Stevie Wonder classic!

Paul, I'm planning to attend all of the Sox games at the Trop in 2007. I'm looking for better luck. I might even see a few Yankees-D-Rays games.

LOL I know. I tell him that all the time.

Insane And Slightly Irritable.. do you think that might be deserving of a ™ ?

I prefer the comparison to a pine tree or palm tree, NYY Angel - they are more manly!

Dammit by Blink-182~ahh that song brings back so many memories!
BTW if anyone ever feels like checking out a delightful band, the drummer of Blink-182 used to be in an excellent band called The Aquabats. They're more ska than Blink-182 but they are really fantastic!! And I always have to p*imp them when I get the chance :)

You do know travis is now in a new band with mark right? Plus 44? and tom went to a group called angels and airwaves but it is mostly emo.

Dammit reminds me of senior year of hs for some reason.

I miss palm trees, I need to go back home lol.

haha yeah angel, that or a medication

Yanks were 13-5 against the DRays, so I am hoping the Yanks are sharper next season. Maybe if they prevent RJ from pitching.

Really I think it is brilliant to send him to the Mets.

Well, yes. But I happen to like Gerbera daisies and Peace lillies a bit more than I like palms and pines (which I do like) - so it would be actually good if you got to that status.. however you might be working your way to pine tree status.. a having a sense of humor is something that I like.

Shhhh, you promised you wouldn't mention my medicated status, Vince.

If any of you start singing Abba or Wham I am taking hostages.

Lol garden statitis.

Dineria

Mallonucleosis.

statuatory of libertaritis.

You're in luck Paul, maybe i'll put on mama mia, dancing queen, or fernando next

Or I will have Andrew take them. He has experience.

EEEEEK Vince.

More NJ diseases:

Jersey shoritis

Wawa fever

Jersey Freeze

Seaside heightitis (aka too much contact with white trash)

Don't worry I'm on busta rhymes at the moment.

Vince, liking ABBA is best kept to yourself - kind of like saying you enjoyed watching Brady Bunch reruns when you were a kid.

ABBA? I will throw a mirror ball at you for that, Vince.

Forget a frozen turkey for that offense, I think a mirror ball would be pretty darn appropriate.

haha who said anything about liking abba? I just happen to have three of their songs hahaha....and no I hate the brady bunch. I told you, my musical taste is as eclectic as they come, I may just go from break ya neck from busta rhymes to stars from les miserables to smack my ***** up by prodigy

LOL Wawa's.. hahahahahahah

What about Stella-itis?

Mirror ball.....egad...

JOKE OVERLOAD

>TILT<

hahaha. Amtraktion

... although, thats not really a disease. More like a plague.

This one guy wrote an article about 5 trades he thought should be made. One of them was Alex Rodriguez to the White Sox for Crede, Garcia, and minor leaguer Lance Broadway...how awesome would that be having a guy named Broadway pitch for the Yankees? haha

What is the beer of choice in college these days. When I was in college (87-91), it was Rolling Rock and Goebel. It would be interesting to get everyone's take on the worst beers ever (widely available commercial beers, not obscure microbrews). My nominations are Stroh's, Schlitz and Milwaukee's Best.

LOL Vince that is funny about Dammit cause it has always reminded me of my junior year of HS. What year did you graduate? (I have a feeling the answer will make me feel old!)

As long as he doesn't throw it right down himself I'm down with that alex

Of course it will Gina, 2005 (I'm a sophomore now), like I said, there is no reason for it reminding me of senior year, it just does

I know! Sorry, but it seemed like it might work better than a frozen turkey vs ABBA.

The persistance of ABBA's required something with sufficient persistence to combat it.

Oops, I'm logging in as Jeff on my own blog, and redsoxnation (for privacy reasons to prevent psychos like Fagan getting my e-mail address) on these larger community blogs. I am carrying on two conversations - one on here and one on my blog. Sorry for the confusion. Back to redsoxnation38.

Ahem....ok, time to list the real Jersey diseases!

*Acute awesomeness

*Chronic kick-****-itis

*Diner, Mall and RoadRage-itosis

*Recurring wonderfulness

Did I miss any? ;)

Okay, I am old. lol.

You forgot Bergencountrystuckupgirlsthatwearugzbootsandstillsmokecigerettesobia

Hmm.. working towards pine tree status.. I like Rolling Rock beer, it is one of the few in this country that reminds me of beers back home.

Worst beer? The stuff they call Fosters here, lol.

Nasty *shudders*

obscureporkproductfood-itis

Anyone ever go to GrandSlam? It's in south brunswick, it kicks a lot of ***, esp when you're like 10.

I drink Bud light cause it makes me feel like i'm not destroying my liver and gaining weight at the same time.

Jeff that vermin already has your email. There is no point hiding from him/her/whatever it is.

I have had to block it from my email after some offensive mail.

That's not fair, I never got hate mail, only from some guy named andy when I first started blogging.

The Irish Lottery IS offensive.

Angels, the domestic Fosters you see here is brewed in Canada.

I know, Paul, but I just think it is best on these larger communities to post with a screen name that doesn't include your real name and doesn't include your real e-mail address. I learned that hard way because of offensive e-mails from Fagan. I use my real name on my blog since it is a smaller community and my bio is in my profile anway.

No way Angel, it is good to me, I've won at least 15 times.

Jeff/Redsoxnation;

Good call on the beer survey!

I think the most popular beer among college kids here is a tie between Lion's Head and, when they have money, Yuengling. Both brewed locally. Oh, PBR is popular too.

Worst beers ever? Heh, where to begin! Steel Reserve has to win the prize for absolute most disgusting. Closely followed by Olde English or any 40oz of malt liquor, Natty Ice, Busch and Milwaukees Beast.

I went to school not too far from Philly and the beers we had were Schlitz, Piels, Rheingold, Pabst, and I am sure I am missing some.

Back then you had to be 21 in PA to drink so we went to NJ where the drinking age was 12 or so.

I still like Rolling Rock. But since I am working at getting back into shape (except when I eat pizza like I did last night), I drink light beer. Sam Adams is my favorite light beet. It tastes a lot like regular, and, of course, it is brewed in the most beloved city in the nation.

What's so bad about hate mail? I kind of like it, it makes me know somebody cares hahahah. No, but in all seriousness I used to write op eds every issue in high school and man, some people really love their SUV's, giant purses, flip flops, fur lined hoods, the miss america pageants and outward rudeness.

I think we had Stroh's too.

The worst beer I EVER had was something called Wild Mustang, brewed near Bloomsburg, PA. It tasted like something that came from a Wild Mustang.

Compared to that, Iron City was a fabulous brew.

Pabst. Now that is a trip down memory lane. I'm in my late 30s, and growing up in the 70s and 80s, my dad enjoyed Pabst, and Stroh's. I am close to my dad, but for some reason I did not adopt his choice in beers or baseball teams (he is a lifelong Reds fan; I'm from southwest Ohio).

LOL...I am currently battling a nasty case of EveryoneLovesANorthJerseyGirl-itosis!

Coupled with a troublesome bout of

JerseyIsTheBestStateEverAndEveryoneWantsToBeFromThere-itis!

I was going to mention Iron City. Definitely not a good brew.

They do have a Rolling Rock light, called Green light, its decent - as light beers go. I have not had a Sam Adams, and it does actually come highly recommended from a lot of people.

12 in NJ?? LOL well that explains Vince.

ahahahaha Paul. We drink Bud, coors, and Miller mostly, and the peasents drink Natties which are disgusting....Dubra is the nastiest thing ever invented though, it's so funny, you can tell what part of the country people go to school based on their cheap beer....You can't even find the beast or old milwaukee around here.

I did not really drink beer until college times. But in college we drank anything free or cheap.

I am 49 so my college days were mid-70s to late 70s.

Pabst is still very popular Paul (I think it's gross, but I'm primarily a pink-drink gal anyway.)

Do you by any chance remember a jazz bar on South St called Bob & Barbaras? It has been around forever and is supposedly the Pabst HQ of the Northeast or something. The amount of PBR memorabilia they have there is almost disturbing.

Natties? Who would name a beer that .. thats like one letter away from Nasties.. lol

hahaha Thanks Angel. Gina, the north jersey girls are in full effect here, I just wish most of them would remove the stick from their rectum.

The best beers for taste. I vote Corona, Stella Artois, Blue Moon and Pilsner Urquell, and any version of Sam Adams or Killian's Red. I like beer like most people like wine. I drink it not to get drunk, but to taste different brews from around the world.

haha Angel that is its nickname, it is actually called natural ice, or in other words, "****". There is cheap, then there is disrespectful. Natties are 12.99 for a 30, that is just punishment.

Piels and Carling Black Label were lousy, also.

I prefer Guinness...as for when I was in college...Rolling Rock at the Rathskeller (local bar) was big....and I had terrible hangovers from parties where we had kegs of the Bull (Schlitz Malt Liquor).

Hey, all, just getting on-line for the first time today and found out about the Sheffield trade. Like a lot of you, I, too, was disappointed by the lack of a ML experienced player in the trade, but hopefully 1 or 2 of these guys will pan out in the next year or so. But I did have another thought: what if the Yankees don't plan on keeping these guys? Maybe trade bait for another team that loves taking prospects in exchange for players? (Marlins: Willis? TB: Kazmir?)

Can I say that that show on MTV (or one channel like it) "Staten Island Girls".. i found it very hard to tell ANY difference between them and North NJ girls.. am I missing something?

Now I am a beer snob. I like the Sam Adams line, and mostly only the smaller breweries or micros.

Harpoon, Pete's Wicked, Shipyard, Saranac. I have a decided affinity for Canandian beers.

Jeff, my sister's husband is like that (Michigan alum). He will drink beer just for the sake of trying it.

UGH.. sounds like with Nasties you get what you pay for. Thats the kind of beer you drink for the alcohol, not for the taste.

Yuengling Lager, oldest brewery in America...thats some good stuff.

I have had National Bohemian and Narragansett (sp.?)

Uh yeah, Staten Island girls are all italian and speak like their tongue taxes them.

I was born in SI and grew up in NJ so I have full liberty to make fun of both. North Jersey girls just dress in every trend they can, think they are heavenly, fall for the wrong guys, sound like "valley girls" and for whatever reason, smoke a lot of cigerettes.

He'll need to drink an 18-pack to absorb Michigan's inevitable defeat to the Buckeyes lol. I recommend a strong beer for him on that day.

Blue Moon is good, but I am not sure who makes it.

I do like Killian's Red but I avoid it because it is a Coors product.

Two of my favorite Canadian beers are Old Mick's Red and Rickard Red.

Yuengling is a good brand, especially on tap.

LOL Vince! Yeah some are like that unfortunately--mostly girls from towns with money, I have found! But there definitely are a lot of triflin girls in North Jersey which is why I've stayed in touch w/so few of them.

Angel I can't have natties unless I wake up the next morning forgetting I had it....and the rest of the night along with it. It is that bad, you need to lose all sense of taste buds before drinking it. Warm natty drinking should be a form of capital punishment.

Yuengling is good, so is yeager (not a beer though)

Yuengling...Pottsville, PA. Rolling Rock from Latrobe...(But they just sold out...forget who bought them out).

"Staten Island Girls".. i found it very hard to tell ANY difference between them and North NJ girls.. am I missing something?
Posted by: nyyangel74@yahoo.com | November 10, 2006 08:19 PM

**** I saw that Staten Island thing..duuude, I or anyone I know does not sound ANYTHING like that! Of course, maybe I just don't hear it..nah! I maintain that everyone else has the accent, not us! :)

Natties sounds like scotch or brandy. You need to be so old that you have limited taste buds remaining.

I also like Rolling Rock. It is a light, smooth domestic beer and often not overpriced like some of the premium beers.

There is a micro brew beer around here that I think might be from Wisconsin and its pretty popular. Leinenkugle's Honey Weiss. They do a Berry Weiss which is popular too. They're not bad either.

hahah Jeff, I actually may be watching the game with him if he isn't at a bar, i'll run the message along. If it makes you feel any closer, he is a HUGE patriots and Brady fan for obvious reasons. (they went to school together, he said he saw brady a few times at parties but that was all, this is UMich we're talking about)

Yeah Gina, you're right the money is a direct cause and effect, unfortunately most of North Jersey has money to spare. I stick by feeling that central jersey girls are the best in the north east.

I think Rolling Rock was bought by Anheuser Busch or one of the other big companies.

I'll try anything. Christian Moerlein from Cincy was pretty good. I had one once named Harry Weintraub's or Harvey Weintraub's (I'd have to Google it to remember it) and it was really good.

North Jersey girls just dress in every trend they can, think they are heavenly, fall for the wrong guys, sound like "valley girls" and for whatever reason, smoke a lot of cigerettes.
Posted by: yankeevmm@yahoo.com | November 10, 2006 08:22 PM

Okay well I refuse to wear Ugg boots so I am not a stereotypical North Jersey girl! yay! lol. I do say 'like' all the time tho it's ridiculous. My friend once counted how many times I said it during a long rant, I think it was like 20+. Eeek!

I'm a lifelong Sox and Celtics fan, but that is where my New England allegiance ends. I'm a lifelong Steelers and Buckeyes fan. I don't follow hockey.

LOL my husband grew up in North NJ, and he kind of thought the SIG's were similar too. But he hasn't lived there in a while so things may have changed, lol.

Holy **** are those SIG's little prissy princess's or what?

Oh wait, you're a steelers fan nvm.

It is hysterical to watch that staten island show with staten island girls (many are at my school, yeah I have the combo going) because everyone in staten island seems to know everybody else, so they are like "OMG _____ SHE ONCE THREW UP IN ONE OF MY BUSHES BEFORE HOOKING UP WITH MY FRONT ANTNEY! WHAT A *****!"

Yankeefan (not sure what your first name is!), did you ever try Hudepohl? That was another Cincy beer. Not very good.

Heyyyyyyyyy, are you knocking Ugg boots?

friend*

Gina if it makes you feel better, I was listening to presentations in one of my classes and a few of them said "like" 105 times in a 5 minute presentation. Yes, I counted, those types of things annoy me

Sad...

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06140/691738-28.stm

The $82 million sale of Rolling Rock brands to Anheuser-Busch poses a major obstacle to the survival of Latrobe Brewing, which until yesterday was by far the strongest survivor in a region once populated with thriving locally owned breweries.

Henry Weinhard's...that was it...

Angel, I'm knocking americans wearing ugg boots in snow with a skirt in the middle of the winter waiting for the drunk bus to take them to a club underaged mostly haha. I think they are hideous but I am aware where they come from. To be fair that SI show is not a fair representation of all SI girls, there are those girls then the girls that make fun of those girls from SI

Oh no.. say it isn't so, Paul.

Angel what part of North NJ is ur hubby from?
And yeah are the SIG ever prissy princesses! I couldn't believe it! They are almost as bad as those spoiled girls on that other MTV show 'My Super Sweet 16' where the parents throw them parties that cost 10s of 1000s and buy them a new car...

(Eeek, this post is requiring me to actually acknowledge that I am aware the show 'My Super Sweet 16' exists. Egads! No judgements guys! lol)

Ugg boots make my calves look enormous :\

Heard of Hude, never tried it. I'd recommend Christian Moerlein though (sp.?)

Ugg boots will be out of fashion in the next calendar year, they are scarce to non existant in the city, which tends to decide the suburban trends a year later

I think I might go out and get a case of Rolling Rocks as a final farewell to a great independent brewery!

He was born in Carteret/Rahway and grew up in Sayreville.

OH i HATE that show (yes, I have seen it, but its like a car wreck i can't look away or turn the channel when I see it).. I ITCH to just smack and ********* so many of those girls!

Wow, I just realized I have to be at work in less than 12 hours :( I'm off like a prom dress, have a good night guys!

Gonna go for the evening. One club I go to has a raffle. Door prize tonight is $105.

Fingers crossed!

Later, all.

Henry Weinhardt's from Oregon, Mike!

Try not to drive with your fingers crossed, Mike.

ohh real quick first...

Sayreville, thats the same town as Jon Bon Jovi! Did he ever see him around? :)

When I really lose it w/ 'Sweet 16' is when one of the brats tells her mom to shut up and the mom just passively laughs it off..if I ever told my mom to shut up esp in PUBLIC?! God help me!

haha. We invented Ugg boots, Vince!! *stomps foot*
We have had them back home since the 70s when they were popular with surfies for some reason. God knows why we needed boots like that in Australia with our summers and non-winters.

Where I live now, they are actually practical! The warmest thing you can put on your feet in a -40 blizzard, lol.

When I was in college we couldn't get Coors in Oregon because of the pasteurization issue, so, of course, that's what we all wanted. Students would drive 4 hours to the California border and back to supply themselves and sell the surplus for 3x what they bought it for.

After it became legal to sell in Oregon suddenly it wasn't the best anymore. I don't buy it anymore for the same reason as you, Paul, I'm sure.

And just so you all know:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15642039/

Notice the only U.S. city to appear on the list.

Gina and Mike leaving together? Hmmmmmmm.....

He went to the same school. A few years behind him, though. Sayreville War Memorial or something. My sister in law left brownies on his doorstep once. She just left them and ran away, lol. They used to see him around when they first started out and weren't as famous.

Yep, just what MTV needs. A show that CELEBRATES children who get everything they want, and still show their parents not one iota of respect!! ISH!!

LOL Paul, you are such a stirrer.

Interesting article, ataustin. I like Sapporo beer a lot.

haha jeff I thought you were typing in stealth on your blog until I realized there was a new post.

NYYAngel, are you from Australia? Interestingly enough, I recently wrote a feature on a band from Australia called A440, an N Sync type band that was here in Orlando recording a CD produced by one of the guys who produced Backstreet Boys, etc. I interviewed the parents of two of the band members, who took out a second mortgage on their house to pay for the travel expenses, dining expenses and lodging while they were here in Orlando for two months. I think they live in the Sydney area.

For some reason, Orlando is where all the boy bands and musicians like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera got their start. Personally, I'm not a fan of the N Sync and groups like them. I do know that Vince is excited that Britney Spears is now available, though. lol.

Boston should be on that list, Andy.

Though Montreal is a good choice. Montreal and the Quebec province has many roadside taverns that are brewpubs.

*tying hands behind back so I don't punch Jeff through cyber space*

I'm so glad her divorce makes her one more step towards being a hasbeen, which is one step towards going straight to **** where she belongs

Yes. I'm from Sydney too. You can just call me Angel, seeing as you are *almost* on your way to pine/palm tree status, lol.
I dont like that kind of music much either.., but those sound like very committed parents. I prefer my stuff a bit edgier.

I thought most of those boybands had the came owner/creator.

Australia has so many great bands from Midnight Oil to the Finn brothers in various incarnations to the Church to Men at Work.

I really love Aussie music.

Microbreweries are on every corner around here. In fact, home-brewing has become a very popular hobby here.

hahahahaah men at work, so many fond memories of men at work trivia.

Angel is comparing Jeff to a pine tree car deodorizer? I should pay closer attention.

Oh gee, I hope federation records survives with the 300 thousand K fed is getting from the divorce. I wouldn't want his musical career to rely on I don't know, his talent or something.

Paul, you forgot Olivia Newton-John!

I love the Church. Not a lot of people have heard of them. I play Unguarded Moment when I'm homesick. I'm impressed that you know so many that aren't as mainstream, Paul.

Haha I like Men at Work, and I've never heard them played so much HERE, more than I did at home.

I would have to say that Crowded House with the aforementioned Finns is my favorite Australian band.

Olivia Newton-John actually still looks very good for her age. I hope I age that well, lol.

Stop the beat a minute i got something to say dre i want to tell u this **** right now while this ******* weed is in me, i don't know if i told u this but i got ur back let's blow this ****.

Bo derek has aged well too....those silly australians....I swear she's australian....Yeah, I watched the movie 10, bite me.

They are good. Original, and lyrically AND musically talented. I saw their farewell concert they had at the Opera House. It was amazing.

I could never do that Andy. I had a wicked teenage crush on her.

A pine tree or a palm tree, not a pine tree car deodorizer.

I like listening to Men at Work, even today. Little River Band is also an Australian band I still like.

She was high up on the crush list when I was 16.

Remember believing she was singing "I Honestly Love You" right to you?

I have a lot of music, over 300 albums on CD, tape, and vinyl. To use the term Vince used earlier, my taste is very eclectic. It is easier to say what I don't like rather than what I like.

Olivia Newton John. Now she is a beautiful woman. What guy would not be attracted to her, especially in Grease.

She WAS singing to me Andy. Get it out of your head.

I loved "Have you ever been mellow..."

She was kind of hot in grease. I only hate country, gospel and emo exclusively

Fagan, we know you are not the Fagan, but if you want to converse on any blog - whether it be Yankees, Red Sox or any - I encourage you to change your screen name. Otherwise, you will not be taken seriously. As Forrest Gump says, that is all I have to say about that.

haha Jeff i've been thinking that all night.

Wow, Olivia is 58 years old now.

Yeah, the vision of her in those leather pants and that black shirt...I need a cold shower!

LRB is touring here in the next month, so I'm told, lol.

I was sad hearing that Paul Hester (the CH drummer) died early last year.

Jeff someone told that character the same thing 2 weeks ago and still this name persists. I cannot imagine this "person" contributing anything that is not better ignored. Name change or otherwise.

I dont like emo music either.

True, Paul. I would just assume forget about "that person" you know. I prefer not to even see a screen name associated with his name.

Angel, do Australians claim the BeeGees or consider them British?

Whether it pretends to be the name of an annoying pest or an 11 yr old 11th grader, it is here to irritate and does not warrant the attention it so desperately craves.

emo music? That flew over my head. What do you mean by emo music?

True, as I said, I will say no more to him.

Bands like My Chemical Romance (although some of their songs are good) and Hawthorne Heights are emo.

We blame them on the English, LOL.

We only take credit for English-born Australians when they're ACDC or the like, haha.

Wow, Andy, thanks.

Wow.

Dammit, I hate John Revolting.

The Bee Gees. Now that is a band I still like as well. Along with Steve Miller, the Eagles and Def Leppard.

Did you notice the 11/11 disappeared before that name appeared? *winks*

LOL, Angel, I think that is the new name for it 11/11.

I like it. The name, not the lifeform behind it.

The Bee Gees, Jeff?

That explains a lot.

hahaha you two are evil. Jeff, emo is music where the artists do nothing but complain in a whiny voice with sad depressing lyrics that make you want to self mutilate. there is also screamo, which is the same thing but instead of whining, they scream.

I liked the BeeGees pre-disco.

Numerical names are good.. 666.. 11/11.. etc. *blinks*

lol I had an Anonymous poster on PeteAbe's blog go all *emo* on me one day. It was freaky, lol.

Fagan, you have to forgive some people for being cautious around you, considering you came here with an email address named after fagan for no apparent reason.

I forgot to mention about Carlings Black Label....we called it Black Death.

Emo music sounds pleasant, Vince. Paul, I admit, it doesn't help my manhood by admitting I like the Bee Gees. But I like a wide range of music. Except emo music.

Yeah, people that like emo music usually legitimately suffer from something mentally and I mean that in all seriousness. It is like a "hold on, you're gonna make it" genre of music.

*looks to the heavens*

Why must you test us with these Bellevue escapees, God? Why???

I am sure I am failing miserably, lol.

You're gonna make it after all....that is the Mary Tyler Moore theme!

Oops, another boyhood crush....

angel my mom used to work in bellevue. Many, many stories over the years that I slowly find out haha.

LOL they have a statue of her in Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis where the scene was shot. People line up to have their pictures taken with it.

I wasn't as attracted to MTM as Olivia Newton John, Farrah Fawcett or Jaclyn Smith.

She did? Thats actually good for you, though. That must have made you kids seem like absolute angels to her, LOL.

That is interesting they have a statue. Is it of the hat flying into the air?

Aww the Charlies Angels.

It was a thrill to actually meet MTM here in Boston when she was doing a play.

lol yeah she did, she started out there doing night shifts no less. her favorite story is the guy who said he was throwing snowballs off his roof and was arrested for it and he didn't know why he was placed there.......after reading his file she found out that he burned his house down with his family in it.

My sister is a lawyer for sex crimes and as part of her training she had to work in a mental institution from time to time to sort of have a better understanding of the people she would be prosecuting.....her favorite story was a guy who went into great detail about his **** victims that he cut up and served as soup to the homeless...while he told the story he stood up and was sporting an erection.

LOL well its in her hands about to fly off into the air.. i imagine they found it diffcult to have it in the air with nothing supporting it.

Sounds like an episode of Law & Order: SVU

Whoa!! Thats someone who is quite delusional and deluded. A big difference between snowballs and homocidal arson.! I hope he's still there.

Yikes Vince. Thats alarming!

Yeah, I also learned through both of them that mental institutions are not like they are in the movies. When you are ruled criminally insane, or insane in general the chances of you EVER leaving regardless of behavior is extremely slim. Insanity is not something that can be cured, only better understood.

I would agree with that. I dont think those who molest children can ever be cured of that. They should not be allowed out at all ever.

Vince, it sounds like your sister may have interviewed some of those who have visited this blog.

haha Paul you may not be far from the truth. The occupations in my family produce a LOT of interesting stories, we are all very different.

Sorry, MTM was a little too old for me. Reminded me too much of my mother.

Sheesh, where is Vince's sister when we need her? lol

Andy you and I are the same age. But I see your point.

As a youngster I did have some interest in older women.

I had a Mrs. Robinson thing going on when I was 17 with a 35-yr old woman. It was a rebound thing after breaking up with my HS gf after the senior prom as we were going off in different directions to colleges.

haha goodnight....hahah angel.

wow, ok so Quinnipiac beat the number 12 hockey team in the nation 6-4 tonight, we play number 10 tomorrow.

We were down to uconn by 2 with 2.5 minutes left in BASKETBALL, but now we are down 7 and conveniently fell apart...what a night for QU sports.

WHOA PAUL, that is pretty awesome.

*jaw drops*

Anyhow, I thought MTM was very hot. And when I met her in the late 80s I was soooo disappointed. She was not particularly friendly and up close she looked different.

As for her friendliness it was after her show so she was tired.

But on the other hand I met Lynne Redgrave the same night and she was pleasant and very talkative.

Quinnipiac may reach the Big Dance this year.

haha basketball? We don't be ranked for quite some time, but our hockey team could definitely contend for the ecac and be nationally ranked somewhere by season's end.

OK i'm off to drunk land, tty all tomorrow.

*picks jaw up off floor*

Paul, I bet you had a crush on Marcia Brady. Come on, admit it. I admitted I still like listening to the Bee Gees. I also admit I had a crush on Marcia Brady when I was a kid.

Hi, everybody. I've just ENJOYED the pictures of beautiful Olivia Newton John. Thank you very much Andy.
In other topics, I've been reading all the previous comments, and I think today is a happy one for the members of the Yankee Family, because Sheff is gone. I think Cashman did again a great job. As Paul said, having him gone is a good thing. Receiving three young arms for him, it is a bonus.

no driving Vince....and no drinking til you are 21.

Paul, you just proved the whole "you're never safe from being surprised till you're dead" theory accurate, lol

Vince just tips the bottle with O'Doul's

I think I shared too much.

Look at Angel's jaw!

Jeff, never was into Marcia. Nor Jan.

And about your Mrs. Robinson, Paul, now I've noticed we've experienced the same crazy situation. And I have to admitt, an unforgettable one

Alice was hot.

(JOKING)

Carol? Alice?

LOL no.. it was just the last thing I expected you to come out with.. it's pretty impressive, lol.

Hi, my Angel. How have you been?

I am still enjoying the ONJ pics. I have never seen this many. It is bringing back memories. She looks so different with dark hair.

Truly the Mrs Robinson thing was not something to be proud about. Really it was a mistake, though I enjoyed it while it lasted. She still sent me Christmas and birthday gifts for 20-25 years after.

I was foolish enough to repeat it at 21 with a different 35 yr old, That was a worse mistake because she worked for me. That could have torpedoed my corporate career even though I did not initiate it.

Agree Paul. I said it is an unforgettable experience. I didn't say it was precisely the best thing I've ever done. Nothing to be proud about. Surely it was a mistake, but when I think of that mistake...............

Returning to baseball, anyone knows when will the 2007 Yankees Schedule be available?

She is a beautiful woman. Very natural, and a down to earth person too.

Ahh things like that are meant as learning experiences while we are young. Besides neither ended as badly as they could have, in that you didnt ruin your corporate career and the other one still sent you gifts, so she must have had good memories.

Hiya Jorge.. whats up?

Hi, my Angel. Here I am, remembering past things thanks to Paul

Well, good night, all. Nice chatting with you. It's like a crash course in pop culture! Everyone have a great weekend!

And agree with you Angel. Olivia still looks great. And I've always heard she is a great woman too. Admirable

I've found this, on a Mark Feinsand's article:
"According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jeter became just the fifth player in the past 75 seasons to hit .340 or higher, drive in at least 90 runs and steal 30 or more bases in the same season. The others were Larry Walker (1997), Ellis Burks (1996), Willie Mays (1958) and Jackie Robinson (1949)."

Our captain is trully amazing. He makes us feel really proud. And he does not need to wear a ridiculous "C" on his jersey. ;-)

There are some duplicates in the pictures.

night BG Jeff

And now it is 12:12 PM, Saturday, November 11 in Japan. What are they waiting for?

Good night. See you all tomorrow

Good night, mr. almost a palm/pine tree

I think I shared way too much on a public blog. Especially one that Nigerian scamsters pick from to mail email pitches to get me to write to them so I can collect $500 Million inheritances from people killed in a jetliner leaving no kin so they found me.

Night Jorge.

I have to say, Sam Borden's blog will be missed.

Among reasons is, who else is going to tell us about Mark's random singing outbursts, lol?

LOL. Now they are going to send you letters from a Mrs Robinson hoping you will collect her money?

Wow, to rise from the depths of scumdom to almost a palm/pine tree in one evening....

Blackmail.

Now Paul's going to get personal ads from all the 70-year-old women who heard he likes older women.

Pete Abe will tell us Mark stories if we prod him.

Otherwise I can just make some up. Like the Hawaiian shirt thing. At that moment I was envisioning Mark as an Oscar Madison type writer.

Omygosh..speaking of those Nigerian scamsters.. a lady at work got a letter in the mail from an ABC Financial Services in St John, NF (notice the address was St John and not St Johns, lol)
Well the letter said that she'd been a sweepstakes winner of $100,000 and they sent her a check for $3650, and if she sent them a moneygram or Western Union order for $2800 as advance payment for the *taxes* a courier with her check would come.

I told her it sounded like scam, but she showed me the check and it actually looked legetimate, so I told her to call the bank (a legit one in PA) and ask if the check had the funds to cover it. She did, and they told her it was a counterfeit check.

At this point she was kind of embarrassed that she even thought it was legit so she decided a bit of revenge in order.

She called the number on the letter and asked for "Larry". She acted like she believed in the scam for about 5 minutes of the phone call, finding out all the details and asking all the right questions. When she finally asked him "So how do I cash a counterfeit check?". He said "What did you say?" and she said " Well I called the bank.. and they said it was counterfeit". I was listening in next to her.. and all of sudden I could hear her go.. "larry?" "Larry, are you there?"

LOL the shyster had hung up on her. It was so funny. It felt good giving them a dose of their own medicine a bit. But it was scary too.. how many seniors who have no one to do any checking for them fall for it?

LOL Andy. Its *almost* though. And you've always been a peace lily, lol.
Really, when he reminded me that he's never behaved like "it" he was right, and I thought I was being unduly harsh and I'd give him a shot to prove himself. After all I've given Sam chances in the past, and he isn't as bad as Sam has been previously. He's really not so bad when he's not being such a Red Sox fan, lol.

Sadly, many do. And they are so much more sophisticated today.

I covered scams as a topic from time to time on a radio show I used to do.

We even had a guest on the show whom I gave lots of line to and let him run with it for a lot of the show and concluded by showing him to be a scamster. He was selling precious metal futures among other things.

This is before the Internet to check on these things. Fortunately he was not a sponsor or the sales dept would have punished me.

It is scary. I got one yesterday from a woman in Ivory Coast who's husband had been killed in some kind of rebellion, but left her a crate full of gold in a warehouse in the U.S. All I had to do was help her claim it and 20% would be mine!

Angel, I'm sure PeteAbe will help you out if you ask nicely.

And no, I don't own any Hawaiian shirts.

I'll post on today's events later on after I finish my work.

It is good you helped your friend, Angel.

Mark still denies the Hawaiian shirts.

You know in Hawaii they actually where them? It is standard business wear on Fridays to wear Aloha wear which includes Hawaiian shirts.

Okay Mark. I had such a good laugh over some of the stories that Sam has told.

Thank you, Angel, that's as high a compliment as you could pay me. I have 2 framed Japanese characters on my wall that say Dream and Peace. Working for peace issues is one of my passions.

I helped her mainly because she seems to get a lot of those kind of things in the mail - she must be on someone's mail hit list. So she will just throw this kind stuff out. The check was one of those that you can buy and run through your printer and it was a bit scary how legit it looked. I'd hate to see someone nice have their hard earned money taken like that. But I always told her there is one rule when it comes to things like this.. if you have to give up ANY money to get anything you've *won*, especially that you dont recall entering then its more than likely a scam.

wear them, not where them...egad I am typing like a fool.

That's very admirable, Andy. :)

I try hard to be more of a peacemaker.. unfortunately I have a tendency to be a smartass that conflicts heavily with it, lol.

Many of those scams are phishing schemes intended as identify theft gambits.

So many of them ask for age, gender, occupation. What kind of lottery needs that info?

Exactly, none that I know of. Not even the legitimate Irish Lottery, lol.

It's just a matter of learning the fine art of being a smartass without offending anyone. I'm pretty good at being able to mortally insult someone, but have them thank me because they heard it as a compliment!

Working for peace is an admirable avocation.

I just want to beat the living **** out of anyone not wanting peace.

oops!

LOL. Well that will be my measure of success then - the day someone thanks me.

I am interested to read Mark's take on the guys they acquired from Detroit for Sheff. And the Matsuzaka Circus.

Right, Paul! And we can't stand prejudiced people, either!

Good Night!
